This is a great hotel with an even better staff!!   The rooms are huge, clean and very modern.  The location is perfect for a visit to the distilleries and golf course.  The staff is friendly, personable, and extremely helpful!! The bar and restaurant are amazing as well.   I will definitely stay there again!!

Fantastic Hotel!!

Stayed here for one night on 3.10.22 with my sister . The booking via the phone was easy, pleasant and arranged very quickly . We arrived quite late as travelling through from Ayrshire but had a friendly warm welcome from Caroline at reception , offered a meal in bar or restaurant - we opted for the bar where we had first class service from a young man whose name we didn’t catch - sorry ( excellent customer service, looked after us so well  !) , a delicious  pizza with wine , just what we required after a long drive in awful weather . Our rooms were huge , great harbour views , massive beds with the most comfortable mattress . 
Rooms were beautifully appointed . Very peaceful and had an excellent quiet night’s sleep . Breakfast fine - table service , bacon lovely . Buffet table with juices / cereals etc . 
Would definitely choose this hotel again if staying in Campbeltown . 
Not cheap but well worth the price we felt esp as we had single occupancy with a room each . Can highly recommend .

Very comfortable night’s stay

Stayed here for 2 nights, Because of a cancelled flight we arrived as the kitchen was closing and they kindly stayed open to accommodate us. The rooms were spacious, clean and in excellent condition. The receptionist found us taxis twice when we needed them. Sorry to leave as we all enjoyed ourselves 

Comfortable Hotel 

What can I say but as soon as we arrived the staff was friendly and rooms where vey clean and the food was lovely and the breakfast was nice well looked after on our stay and it’s handy for town centre bars and restaurants and can go walk along sea front at harbour nice and relaxing walks

Weekend away with family to get away from the city

This was a delightful hotel. We paid a bit extra for a sea view and it didn’t disappoint. We had the corner room with three windows overlooking the harbour. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had lovely bath robes to use. Would be happy to return here anytime.

Delightful hotel

WOW, where do I start?!  After a drive down from Oban, we arrived in Campbeltown.  We were immediately struck by the beauty of this town.  I went to check in and was greeted by Caroline.  What a truly lovely person.  She was more than accommodating and like most Scots, a natural born storyteller.  The Superior Twin Room was absolutely beautiful, #18.  This hotel has managed to bring  the charm of its early years (1800s)into the present .  From the bathtub fixtures to the pictures on the walls.  Everything showcases the beauty of this hotel.  The Staff was fantastically pleasant and we felt utterly at home during our stay.  Caroline gave us some fantastic tips again on where to go and see the ever abundant sea life, ie, seals and great places to take long walks to enjoy the beauty of this special peninsula.
Definitely visit the Black Sheep Pub.  It’s on site and truly appreciated by the locals.  Never a dull moment here.  The food in the restaurant can also be ordered in the Pub, “same kitchen, makes no difference where you’re sittin’”, our waitress said.

It’s sister hotel on the golf course has all the bling, bling. But  as the saying goes, not everything that shines is gold.  I personally prefer the warm tones, dark wood and overall cosy atmosphere which I experienced at the Royal. And it has the added benefit of being in town where there activities to do.
Enjoy a stay at the Royal Hotel.  You won’t be disappointed.

Another Gem in Scotland

Right on the front. Staff were very friendly was offered a tab right off. The rooms were stunning. Big comfy beds. Sky box in each room. Very clean and maintained. The restaurant meals were excellent. Hot. Quick service with friendly attentive staff. Would highly recommend. Will definitely use again.

So just a wee update. Since our wedding in March 2020 as you are aware this was a terrible experience.

Since lock down started to ease my wife and I went back into the Royal Hotel. We spoke with one of the managers at the hotel. We were then offered a stay at the Ugadale Hotel out at Machrihanish. We took this offer and were offered a fantastic room with breakfast. On our arrival the staff was extremely well manard. We even received a bottle of prosecco. Needless to say our stay and food was fantastic. Lovely 2nd wedding night.

So since over terrible review March 2020

Overall, this is a well-situated hotel right opposite the harbor and the rooms are clean and of good size. However, it is expensive and many of the staff need more customer service training. Our room (21) was a corner room which looked right onto the harbor and both it and the bathroom were larger in size than I was expecting. Comfortable bed and big fluffy towels were a plus but due to the customer service experience and the price, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Good location and amenities spoiled by bad customer service

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights whilst playing golf at Macrahanish.

First thoughts were that the hotel room was nice, clean and comfortable, if a bit old fashioned.  Actually better than expected. However it is perhaps a tad expensive (very expensive for what you get. I've stayed in far better around the world for much less). Considering there is not much else around and Campbeltown has seen "better days", it's probably priced at a level for the tourists who have come over for the golf.  

Things did start to go wrong later though. Our table reservation for dinner that we phoned in prior to arriving wasn't taken and we had to wait a bit for a table to become available.  Food was OK, if a bit pub grub style. certainly not fine dining. 

Our first morning breakfast was good and set us up for the golf.

Then came the second problem. The next morning we were informed that breakfast wasnt incuded in our rate and that we would have to pay (neither reception when we checked in or the staff at breakfast the first morning mentioned this). We checked our booking (through Booking.com) and indeed breakfast was included. After a bit of an argument the hotel indicated that there was a recurring issue with Booking.com and that they should not have stated that breakfast was included in the price (who is actualy at fault here and why hasnt it been resolved if they know there is an issue ????)  In the end the hotel relented and we got our breakfast included as per the booking.... but the discussion at the table that morning was both embarrasing and needless. It wasn't the most pleasurable experiences to finish off our stay. It didn't help when they got the breakfast orders wrong as well !

One point to note, for the most part, the staff are all very friendly but very young and still need to learn a little about customer service. The issue at breakfast could and should have been resolved a little more discretely, if a manager were on hand for the discussion. 

Summarising - a nice comfortable hotel but well overpriced. Service needs to be improved and the issue with Booking.com with respect to breakfast being included needs to be resolved !
