What a gem! It is with a heavy heart that I leave Kipps  Canterbury today. My room was brilliant, spotless, warm and everything you could think of. Tv, wall safe, hair dryer, desk and chair, toiletries, towels, tea and coffee, kettle, small sink. Staff are very attentive, there is a vending machine downstairs where you can get crisps etc, you can even buy alcohol. Lounge is gorgeous. It is easy to walk into the city centre and there are lots of shops.  I can, and will, return here. I can't wait! Thank you to all the staff, they make this place what it is.

Clean, lovely staff, parking (limited). No problems, didn’t join for breakfast but looked good. Perfect for me and my friend for the night while we tour the country, great price. Thank you for a great stay. 

Great

Overall a really nice hostel, the baths were fine and the beds were really comfy. You have a tv in your room and you get (depending on the room) either a bothroom or a sink. The breakfast was pretty average, you could eat toast, cereal, pancakes, cupcakes and there were enough drink options. So in conclussion it had something for everyone. There are 2 people you are gonna meet from the hostel, the man (I sadly didn't remember the name) who was SUCH a good host. He was friendly, allways!! there to help you and he does everything he can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Then there is a woman. Listen Im a really nice person and I dont judge a lot but this woman was not only unfriendly towards us but also quiet rude. I wish she would take after the man. So overall the hostel was nice but I have to take a star away for the rude behaviour of that woman.

Overall nice hostel BUT

Regardless of how this place describes itself online,  do be aware that the Private rooms share one Bathroom & Shower with many other rooms.
More seriously, my Private room had it's large Fire Exit door blocked by a heavy sofa chair. The staff told me they were happy with this, and that they were ALLOWED to block this door! Really! Not the basis for a comfortable night's sleep! Photo attached!

Misleading Description online , and a Fire Hazard

We stayed for one night while visiting Canterbury. 1st floor twin room, clean, good size with all amenities we needed. Quiet night's sleep, comfy mattresses. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a glass of wine in the tranquil garden, late afternoon. The place has a friendly, welcoming vibe so we felt comfortable using the communal spaces. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely stay

The hostel made several false statements in response to my honest review (as I found out now). I am thus now wondering even more why they would have stated upon my arrival that Booking.com canceled my reservation - when Booking said they let hotels deal with payment themselves instead. Contrary to the hostel's accusation, I have never had any problem with my card elsewhere, so I could not have said so either. After all, Booking.com allows 6 hours for the updating of the card info, so since I showed up to check in only one hour after making my reservation, there could not have been any such problem in any case. And, since the hostel said I arrived right before they were going to close, what was the hurry to charge my card before I arrive? Were they hoping they would get to keep my money although I would no longer be able to check in - after they would have closed?
Also, I did clearly ask if I could have one of the other unoccupied beds in the room (contrary to their false claims that I did not; after all, how would I know they said the other beds were reserved otherwise). But both the beds I would have preferred remained unoccupied for two days. If this was because of a plane delay, that was heck of  a delay. Because TripAdvisor said I could not paste my whole review and the hostel's response here, please review further details and make your own judgment regarding the arrogant and dishonest approach of this hostel at Booking.com, where my review was posted on November 7, 2018.

Very dishonest dealing with customers - during stay and aftewards

We booked via booking.com for one night in a family room with bathroom.  The room was clean, spacious and nice and warm.  The facilities at the hostel were fantastic - large well equipped kitchen, cosy lounge area and a nice continental breakfast selection which was reasonably priced at £3.50pp.

The staff were lovely and really go the extra mile to ensure the stay is a "home from home". I left my ipad in the room (well actually one of my children managed to hide it under a pillow!), but Carmen found it and is going to personally send it back to me via the post office this week. I am so grateful as we don't live nearby!

I would highly recommend the hostel for a cost effective, welcoming stay and amazing location, perfectly suited to exploring Canterbury.

Lovely one night stay with the kids

I booked two nights at Kipps but extended for another night because I loved it so much! The staff were friendly and always happy to have a conversation or offer advice. The facilities were fantastic: the kitchen was spacious and well-equipped; the lounge was large and comfortable with a TV, books, games, an X-box, several seats, a smaller dining table, a vending machine; there is a beautiful garden.

I was in the dormitory on the ground floor between the kitchen and the lounge, but I had no issues with noise at all. The room had its own bathroom and sink and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The bed had its own small locker to keep valuables and a separate light and power outlets to use. The room had a large radiator and I was quite warm (despite having just left an Australian summer for an English winter...).

Friendly staff in a comfortable and homely space

I've stayed here on a number of occasions. The staff at the venue have always been friendly and accommodating. Great to stay here for a low-cost trip to Canterbury. Tucked away on a quiet street but still close enough to the city centre to enjoy the sights of Canterbury within a few minutes and the nightlife!
