I am disgusted. I went home late to find some crazy guy literally on my bed. I was very angry to find him there and he was implying he’d wanna do stuff to me. I was angry and then he tried  to steal my bag. This is sexual assault! And I will pursue it further !

I came down from Chester to Cardiff to see Taylor swift arriving the day prior so I would be able to get some sleep and honestly this place is just awful. 

On arrival once I managed to work out the silly online keys that don't work if the hostel is busy, I was greeted by vile smells and filthy carpets leading through the corridors towards the room. I got to the room and it didn't get any better the floor was covered in mess, dirt, grime, nails food etc. The "safe" storage was missing parts so couldn't be locked with a padlock, the bedding was unclean and looked as if someone had slept in it the night before. 

Having dropped some of my items in the room I headed out and came back late, I used my rain poncho as a protective device so I could lay down and try get some sleep, sadly this wasn't possible as the curtains were broken and a hole in the window was poorly fixed allowing smells from an extractor next door to come straight into the room. 

My second night I was in a different room, I was told my luggage would be moved and kept in a safe place for me to collect after my concert. On arrival back there was no staff in the pub for me to get my luggage so I tried the room I slept in the previous night my bad was there luckily only of the ladies I met the night before had looked after it for me but this wasn't what I was told was going to happen. 

My second room was even worse, I left early and slept at the train station as it was just vile

I absolutely recommend this Flophouse to the people who like absolutely horrendous and stinky places to stay at. If you don't mind the smelly and ruined carpets, the uncomfortable and unchanged beds, the weird people and strangers that you will be staying with, the nasty and moldy showers, the broken and disgusting toilets that's the place for you. Unless you are too drunk and high to care about basic comfort and hygiene avoid this place. Oh right, and unless you are a man avoid this place at all costs, it'is very unsafe for women. Weird and drunk people wander around the halls at night, occasionnally trying to break into others people rooms, some bathrooms can be oppened by a magnetic card, which allows anyone to enter while you shower, which is not the most pleasant experience. There is supposed to be a reception and a common room, which I didn't see, unless you count the vacant table at the entry as one, the staff is just nowhere to be found. The rooms are in shambles, the floor is sticky and the bedsheets have uncleaned spots, because that's what they are: UNCLEAN (they don't know in which bed you sleep, so they don't know which sheets to change). The worst is the sanitary in the bathrooms, people don't even bother to flush the toilets (the people you stay with is not their responsability, not even if they are unhygienic, however they don't clean nor repair the toilets) , there are tiny sinks in which you can barely wash your hands, let alone do any claning with, and the soap that falls on you because it is scotched with tape on the wall. The omnipotent smell of vomit is present everywhere, the showers, the toilets and the halls, in other words: it reeks. Even in the bar, which shouldn't be surprising you would say, but I don't think you can imagine just how bad it is. We passed throught the bar during the day, when it has just been cleaned, apparently they don't know how to clean because it was a debauchery, which says a lot about the hygiene in the rest of the place. I don't even imagine the state of the kitchen, if there is any, because a lot of the included things where not so included. It's not giving slay, it's giving conjuring met "cauchemar en cuisine" and had a horrendous child. I'm sure you can find another place with the same range of prices and basic sanitarity and hospitality, at this point they are just stealing your money and giving you a free haunted house experience.

This place should be condemned, a very very bad safety risk.

To many problems to list but here are a few.

The floors are carpets are so uneven and coming up in every room, even on the stairs to witch I tripped up, at first your couldn’t see it but now it’s so obvious and nothing is being done.

We had a problem with the water pressure all through out my stay and I reported it so much, this just got worse and worse with the hot water stopping then no water at all not even the toilets would flush.

Just don’t stay here

Basic but very good Hostel. Very near train station in city center. Nothing fancy but very clean, safe and good price.

Friendly staff/management. 

Near plenty of bars, restaurants and Cardiff Castle.

Good deal in the heart of Cardiff

Great location and very easy  to check in and checkout.
Staff were all lovely and very accomodating. 
Its a straight forward hostel that does the trick if you are travelling in a big group.
We will definetly be back.

Pretty grim and not that cheap (3 of us stayed after the Wales v Australia game). The person checking us in was surly and really unhelpful, bordering on aggressive. Also  -  ask to see how much they write down when they record your cash deposit (i handed over £50 but they only wrote down £30 so was fleeced out of £20) . I wouldn't stay here again.

We booked two bunks for 3 nights in a seven bunk room over an extremely busy weekend in Cardiff. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly guy who booked us in , told us the basic rules and took the deposit for our two keys. 
I loved the funky little entrance and upstairs didn’t disappoint. Yes , the rooms are pretty basic, it is a hostel not The Ritz . That said , everything was clean , the bedding was spotless  and beds were comfortable. There was an under bed storage crate for every bunk , just bring a padlock and all your goodies are safe . The toilets , basins and showers all worked and were clean , soap in the dispensers and plenty of loo roll. The location is great , slap bang in the city centre , yet the rooms are quiet , sleep is not a problem. When we came to check out we rang the bell at reception and the lovely manager appeared immediately, she too was friendly and seemed genuinely happy that we had enjoyed our stay so much . Our key deposit was returned with a smile, no problems at all .Maybe the travellers who have complained simply didn’t  play by the simple rules  , be courteous, don’t make a mess and check out by 10 am and all will be good . Thank you to all the team at The Bunkhouse , we will definitely return whenever we are in Cardiff .

Keys episode:

I checked out at 5 AM, pretty early but I informed the reception the night before and they asked me to call either/both of the staff numbers which were displayed on the wall. Unfortunately neither one of them picked up the phone, which I thought would happen so early in the morning anyways, therefore I left them a note at the reception. I'm waiting for them to get back with the deposit balance to me...
 
Pros of staying here:
1. Smack at the city center, not near the city center but right at the heart of it.
2. Cheapest you'll find in Cardiff.
 
Cons:
Getting back the deposit for the keys. 

Hope the staff reading this is going to give me back my deposit money. 

[Please don't make my impression of your hostel worse by stealing (not giving back) the deposit. I'm sure you don't want tourists to have that impression of Wales]

The hostel itself is OK, nothing fancy, but I can't recommend it at all since they didn't give me the deposit back, didn't respond to my queries after that about returning the money, they lied to me that they'll be reachable during the early check out, overall, I am being polite by not using the word thieves for them.

They dont give back the deposit for keys even when you return them, furthermore they lie about being reachable
