This is a really nice place to stay, we were breaking a long journey but would have loved to stay longer once we got there. The room was really well presented and comfortable. They had kept a space for us for dinner, which was delicious, as was the large breakfast, with lots of choices! It is such a beautiful spot.

Fantastic location and a great place to stay

This was our second time of staying at The Head. The room was spotlessly clean, the evening meal excellent, and the host and hostess very friendly. Our dogs were made welcome too. Attention to detail with Covid arrangements was most impressive.

Excellent hospitality

We stayed in Room 4 and it was perfect for us because our daughter could stay in a semi-connected room (which had twin beds). The owners are really lovely and made sure they did everything to make you feel comfortable and welcome. There is a homely and caring atmosphere. There is a beautiful Peter Rabbit type garden which because of the weather we couldn't use but its gorgeous. We had birds and squirrels feeding from a seed bag right outside our window.  We also had dinner a couple of nights at the bar which was lovely. Breakfast was a generous mix of hot cooked breakfast and cereals and fruit etc. A fabulous stay - thoroughly recommend staying here.

A brilliant and fantastic stay at The Head At Middleton

We managed to book 2 nights here. We had being staying further north by the lakes for a week and decided we didn't want to go home just yet. The place we were at was fully booked so we frantically went on line to find somewhere when we stumbled upon this place and luckily it was available. What a stroke of luck !!! It was beautiful, the gardens were a haven for all manor of birds, i've never seen so many different species in one place, i am not an avid bird watcher by any means but even i couldn't fail to be impressed. The bar and restaurant were exactly how i imagined, lovely and cosy, great cider and ale range. Then there was the food, wow, freshly cooked, extremely generous portion sizes and that goes for both breakfast and evening meals. The rooms were in proportion to the food in fact, BIG ! Very spacious and very clean, super soft bed, slept like a log. Elizabeth and David were great hosts, thank you and one last mention about the food, you must try Dave's steak and kidney pie, it's goooooooooooood!!!!!

Amazingly Lucky Find

Called in to The Head for an evening meal after pre-booking.  Cosy, country style pub/restaurant in beautiful valley.  Made to feel very welcome by the couple running the business.  Care and attention paid by hosts to Covid issues and cleanliness so we felt very safe.  Very tasty meal with top quality meat and heavenly home made chips.  Generous desserts. A whole list of liqueur coffees to tempt as well. Hosts kindly let us park our motorhome in car park under Brit Stops scheme.  We will definitely return.

Lovely meal with welcoming hosts

Back at The Head again for a relaxing 2 day stay.  Really look forward to the warm welcome we receive from Elizabeth and David.  Excellent food, very comfortable and clean accommodation.  We enjoyed relaxing in the quiet and peaceful garden with our dog. The Head is very dog friendly and it is not far from Kirkby Lonsdale which is ideal to take your dog on walks along the river, especially after the superb cooked breakfast at the Head. Already looking forward to our next stay in August.

Another great stay at The Head

I really enjoyed my 4 night stay at The Head - Elizabeth and her husband were really welcoming and my room was very comfortable, with a wonderful hot shower and being able to turn on the radiator to dry out wet walking shoes and clothes was a real help. 
All the rooms have their own entrance and open on to the garden, which gives a pretty outlook and is very useful when travelling with dogs. There is a footpath just beside which runs straight up on to the fell  - great for a longer walk and the first part of the track is lined with amazing wildflowers, a really beautiful walk right on the doorstep! 

It's a great location for walking in the Howgills and Southern - Mid Lakes and the nearby towns of Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale are good to explore too. 
I will definitely be back again soon - I hope!

Comfortable, Clean and Friendly

This was our third stay at The Head, Middleton, and we enjoyed it very much! The Head is situated in very attractive rolling countryside, and and we loved the atmosphere in the "olde worlde" restaurant and bar with its beams and decorations, with a log fire burning. Elizabeth and David were very friendly and attentive hosts, and the steak and kidney pie was superb, as good as our mothers' made! Our room was warm and very comfortable. We'll be back!

A lovely place to stay

We have stayed at The Head on a number of occasions.  This time we stayed for 3 nights. As always we were greeted with a warm welcome by Elizabeth and David. We arrived late on Friday night and our evening meal was excellent.  Accommodation is very clean and rooms are warm.  Excellent breakfast provides a good start to your day. Very dog friendly too.  Looking forward to our next stay at The Head.

Another excellent stay at The Head

We only used the hotel for evening food and drink, as were staying locally; if staying in the area again would consider staying here. On a cold October evening we were welcomed by an established log fire spreading its heat across the dining room, and delighted to learn we could take our dog in with us. It wasn't just the fire that gave the warm welcome, the landlord and landlady made us feel at home, chatty but not over-powering or over familiar, and delivering top quality service.

A traditional menu of food, with a children's selection available, could have you thinking this is your typical pub selling food: but the quality and craftsmanship of the food that arrived was exceptional, a surprise given the price, and was gorgeous, just what was needed after a days travel.

In an age where we hear of pubs going out of business on a daily basis, this traditional pub seems to have found its staying power based on delivering quality at value rates; and long may it last.
