My wife and I stayed here for 1 night after visiting relatives locally.

We stayed in room 2, the same room as previously. It was warm and comfortable,  with good clean bedding and a comfortable bed ensuring a good night's sleep. The bathroom was a bit tired - needed regrouting in places, and I have never known a lower toilet!

We ate in the bar in the evening. The meals were good, without being spectacular. 

What was very good was the live music - of course it helps when the music is to your taste, but the 5 or so musicians were all talented, and enjoying themselves. A joy to listen to.

A  night in Stretton.

We arrived on a freezing late winter afternoon, and were welcomed warmly by the staff. Nothing was a problem and even though we arrived early in the week (when the restaurant was shut) the hosts kindly prepared some fare at very short notice - we had possibly the best burgers this side of the Atlantic, prepared by chef/ proprietor Richard, with rustic potato chips prepared from his old English secret recipe, handed down from father to son. Well worth the trek to Somerset! 

The atmosphere of the bar is great with assorted friendly dogs to pat and feed, accompanied by a superb chilled music playlist. It seems that with assorted guitars stacked up in the bar the open mike nights would be well worth attending. All in all this pub is a gem must not be missed - a place with bucket loads of character, interesting staff, great conversations and comfortable bedrooms. A modern quintessential Somerset pub with a dizzying array of ciders on tap. Highly recommended.

Gold in Somerset

Called in for a meal on the way home. Warm welcome and the Guinness braised lamb was amazing. My wife had the scampi which was well presented and enjoyable.  Reasonable price and a good menu selection. Having seen the burgers being served we will definitely return to try one

Lovely meal and reasonably priced. Good choice

Stayed one night en route to Gatwick. Greeted by the owners who are so friendly. Murphy the collie also made friends with me. Room large with a very comfortable wooden framed bed. A little dark due to only one window. Nice shower with toiletries. Had dinner and it was good pub food. Enjoyable chat with owners who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Breakfast excellent with apple smoked bacon , yumm. My only down point was the coffee but i love good filter coffee and thats my own personal taste. Stay here for sure

Great place

Superb Sunday Roast choice of three meats, loads in veggies and a great place. Would go again . Really genuine country village inn, and super value for money. Quirky and original setting, car park is a bit cramped but don’t let that put you off, would advise booking as popular place , but waiting time for food is minimal 

Sunday Lunch

I think on staying here you need to understand the building is old, it's not going to be perfect and modern, it's exactly what it says on the tin. The place is full of character, and the room we stayed in was clean and very comfortable. The owners Jill and Derek were welcoming after a long day out in Bath and were happy to keep us topped up with drinks and good conversation until we went up to bed. The pub dog Murphy is wonderful also! Breakfast in the morning was outstanding, a fry up that was not dripping in grease. The bus stop into Bath is right opposite, however the bus that comes past the pub stops at 7pm, something to be aware of if you're going into Bath. We would stay here again.

Excellent stay

This is a review of the Bar / Restaurant and not the Hotel side of the business. We booked a meal here as it was local to where some family were staying. This is a great country pub full of memorabilia and warmth. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night, but then it was a cold wet one. The menu is OK, not the same as advertised online, but still had a good selection of meals. Dessert menu is limited to say the least ! Overall, had a lovely meal, service was great and not too expensive. If it were closer, I am sure we would go back again

Fabulous Family Dinner

The Kings Arms may look a tad on the tired side in certain parts of the premises but it has tons of character.
We stayed on Saturday 14th- 15th September in the family room which consisted of a double and a single bed.
Although the decor in places looked a bit on the dated side,the shower room was definitely modern and clean.
The room offered good tea and coffee making facilities and there was a hairdryer and shower gels etc provided.
As it is situated in a very peaceful village, we heard nothing and slept extremely well.
My only small criticism was that the television did not change channels and the lady who showed us to our room informed us of a faulty door lock.
A peaceful little dog friendly pub with character and you get a nice welcome from the pub dog too!

An extremely peaceful stay.

Arrived at 4pm and were welcomed by the owner who showed us up to our room. We had booked a family room as we had our grandson with us. The room was adequate for our needs wit the single bed facing away from our double bed.The shower was really nice after our long journey along with a nice cup of tea from the in-room facilities. The pub opened at 6pm and we went down for a drink and followed this up with an evening meal. We ordered Beef Chilli, Hunters Chicken and Steak and Ale pie with chips. The meal arrived pretty quickly and we all enjoyed our meals. They were hot and very tasty. Breakfast was between 8 and 9am so we went down at 8:30. There was fruit, cereal and orange juice available along with a cooked English breakfast. The cooked breakfast was hot and consisted of Beans, sausage, egg, bacon and tomato. There was hot toast as well. very filling. The only downside for us was that we were woken up at 7am by the dog barking to be let back in the pub.
Other than this, we enjoyed our stay and left around 10am. We would stay here again if we are travelling down to Cornwall.

ExcellentOvernight Stay

After a long car ride down we finally arrived and was made to feel at home straight away by Jill who showed us round and upon seeing our room for our stay I can say I was throughly impressed. It was kept clean and fresh towels daily throughout our 4 nights. Breakfast was fabulous and even catered to us both eating at different times - A rare luxury! The evening meals were cooked beautifully and you could tell made with love. We enjoyed a couple of evenings in the bar where Derek and the locals kept us entertained and both the wine and beer were reasonably priced for the area (one of the cheaper pubs too) nothing was too much trouble for the owners and they even helped us to get the best way into the local towns and cities even asking us about our day upon return. It's definitely a home away from home kind of place. Thank you for a wonderful stay and see you next time!
