The pub although hidden away is a little gem ,was a lovely warm day in june when the four of ours meet at this hidden away little gem ,sitting outside in the warmth of the sun with a great real ale was so good.

The little gem coome hays hidden treat. 

Excellent lunch today at the Wheatsheaf, lovely old country pub in glorious surroundings with friendly and welcoming staff. This was our first visit but certainly will not be our last and will definitely recommend to friends.

Excellent country pub

Well. This place was quite the find. It was just perfect for us. The location and setting is idyllic and we thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous 14km circular walk - never have I seen so much wild garlic!  Whilst we never ate there, we stopped en route for a coke at The Packhorse in South Stoke which looked wonderful. But back to The Wheatsheaf. The main building is lovely - welcoming, and warm and the staff! Rarely have we stayed somewhere and been made to feel to immediately 'wanted'. I have to give a very special mention to two people in particular - Jack who initially greeted me, who manned the bar and for whom nothing was too much trouble - sorting out a wonderful breakfast for us al fresco as it was just warm enough to do that. But also Jen. I feel we hit the jackpot staying when we did just so we could meet her, as she was covering whilst the manager was taking a well-earned holiday. What a fabulous addition she was and it was in part down to her that we loved The Wheatsheaf so much. Friendly, without being overbearing - and above all, we found her truly authentic - sincere and generous.
The food was very, very good. I have thought often of the delicious mushrooms on toast, the rhubarb compote - all manner of delicious food, using seasonal local produce. We stayed in the Wendy House so felt we had a little piece of The Wheatsheaf all to ourselves. It was comfortable and well appointed and we slept brilliantly. We made the mistake of spending the last day of our trip in Bath - we wish we'd stayed another night at the Wheatsheaf. Loved it. Do yourselves a favour and just GO!

Flippin' brilliant

This pub / restaurant is an absolute jewel.
For the second time, we held our works Christmas function at The Wheatsheaf.
Once again, we were not disappointed.
We were excellently looked after by James and his team.
Service was excellent, food delicious.

Great food and service.

Been coming to The Wheatsheaf for many years. With Covid-19 to consider they've done a great job with the outside, on a sunny day it almost feels continental.

The staff and service are good too.

Food was variable though. Bread very good, hummus OK. Squid excellent. Veggy burger OK. Brixham crab poorly dressed. Battered haddock OK. Skinny chips disappointing. Could hardly tell the difference between the vanilla and salted caramel ice cream.

Mid range price for most things. 

Could do better 

Not as good as previously experienced, we didn’t receive a warm welcome or goodbye seemed more interested in locals or people they knew of.  The scallops starter was expensive and the smallest scallops, we ate the next evening at the little french in Bristol and they served what you call a very decent tasty scallop starter for the same price. Very expensive meal taking into consideration the service, vibe and food.

Disappointed

The Wheatsheaf combines good food with comfortable accommodation in the countryside. And this all about 20min by car from Bath (or about 1 1/2 hours walking for the fit people among us)!

The gastropub serves good traditional food and has a decent wine list. Breakfast is decent as well. In the summer the pub had a superb beer garden ...

The little cottages are comfortable and well equipped. Sure, the tv is small but why do you need to watch tv here at all. 

Lastly (and one of the reasons for us to stay here): The Wheatsheaf is dog friendly! In fact, it is so dog-friendly that the owners dogs (superb ‘working spaniels’) are freely roaming around in the restaurant! 

Gastronomy in the countryside!

Situated in rolling countryside yet close to Bath although you would not know it. Good location for walking with routes starting close to the pub. Some interesting local canal history too. Comfortable y comfortable room in a former farm building adjacent to the main pub building. Food of a very high standard and they are serving a proper menu as opposed to cut down “pub” options. Well balanced and interesting wine list throughout the price range. Breakfast very good.

Escape to the Countryside with great food

Went to The Wheatsheaf for a Friday lunch.
The scenery, service and food were excellent.
Great atmosphere and very relaxing. Good value for money. Would recommend to friends and family, and would go again

Another superb meal at the Wheatsheaf , this is our " special occasion " go to pub , only because it's quite a drive for us to get there on the outskirts of Bath , but always worth the journey .We all had starters including the fabulous home made bread which is one of the reasons I love the Wheatsheaf ! One of our friends has a gluten intolerance and the gluten free bread is some of the best he has tried . The main courses both steak and fish were perfectly cooked and delicious .
The thing that makes the Wheatsheaf special apart from the beautiful setting , dog friendly relaxed atmosphere is the attention to the smallest details which make the food really special , the Processo is served on ice and the glasses are chilled to a perfect temperature . Definitley a place to go when celebrating or just after a dog walk in the beautiful strounding countryside
