Clean but band playing so noisy.
Best to join in the fun or take some ear plugs. Good selection in the bar.

We had two en-suite rooms, one for my octogenarian mother which had a very drafty window that had been poorly mended.  We used towels to reduce the drafts.  The heating was boosted at our request & it still was not warm but she slept OK using extra towels on the bed.

Both rooms are recently painted but lack suitable & sufficient furniture & the lighting was generally poor.

The wifi worked fine and there was tea & coffee in the rooms.  Its main plus is that you can walk into the old town for bars & restaurants.  

A council run car park is 5 mins walk away & you need coins to get the 24 hrs stay duration as paying by credit card does not do this for some strange reason.

To sum up its OK for a night & it was not too noisy despite the pub below but its spartan and has a 'low-rent' feel.

Cheap price & quality of room - no breakfast available now

We have room 5 at The Quaich and my elderly mother in law had room 6.  

Here are the issues:
Very disappointed as the booking site said breakfast is available to preorder from night before.  The pub downstairs serves food of course not they no longer do breakfast.  A massive MINUS for a Scottish branded hotel when the Scots pride on their haggis breakfast. What a shame.  It is a low rent hostel really.

We were asked to pay on ARRIVAL not checkout . Strange place!!

No light switch to turn on lights at the locked entrance to the hostel.  Dangerous..

Room 5 : Extremely sparse, not enough furniture, one bedside table for a double bed and the bed was pushed right against the wall!  Very weak water pressure in shower.  No cleaning of crockery and room so this place is a hostel not a hotel.  The room can be noisy with drunks sitting outside from the pub - as expected.

Room 6 : Very dim overhead lightbulb and we could not see properly literally.  Bathroom door will not closed as it is too close to the door itself.  Worst still, there is a big gap in the sash window and the room was freezing, not acceptable in any property.  THIS ROOM IS NOT USABLE.

Pluses : Nice thick towels (used to stuff windows in Room 6!!), good amount of free tea and coffee in room, helpful pub owner at the bar.  Decent central location. Free wifi.

This place is cheaper than everything else in central Cheltenham but it shows - you will feel like a budget backpacker when you stay there.

Disappointing stay

Rated as average as whilst there were some really good points, there were also some drawbacks. Booked an en-suite double, and the size of the room was fantastic - really spacious. Bathroom was relatively compact and basic however - the shower was not very strong at all and aside from handwash, no toiletries were provided - and down some steps, so room 5 would not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Recent Tripadvisor reviews mention a fantastic breakfast, so although no breakfast was booked alongside the room, I did expect the option to book a breakfast. An information card in the room stated however that the hotel was a room only hotel, so I am unsure as to what the previous reviewers were talking about. Good location for the centre of Cheltenham and secure after hours access was another positive; parking was, however, a drawback as there is no allocated parking for the hotel, so there are only pay car parks available, either of which can mount up if you want 24hrs worth of parking. Overall the hotel is in the bracket of a reasonable budget stay, however, I felt that the price charged was a bit more than it should be. I would consider staying again, but only if other options were more expensive.

Pluses and Minuses

Booked en suite room and breakfast. Got there late (9 pm) to find our room had been given to someone else.
Offered another non en suite for a free night which we accepted.
Promised a refund but despite many emails this is not forthcoming.
