Staff lovely and very welcoming. We had a double room with twin beds which were very comfortable it was basic but clean with tea and coffee making facilities and tv. Reading past reviews were abit worrying but we always form our own opinions of places and in this case we totally disagreed with them . I do say if you want 5 star privileges then pay 5 star prices! We had a very enjoyable stay and would stay again thank you!

Lovely stay

My room was a single (no.20), the room was scuffed, chipped and marked. The mirror cracked. Sit on the bed quickly and you will compact your spine if you sit on the central lump. However the room was clean and functional and I only paid £45 for one night so I am not complaining. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

You get what you pay for

It’s been many years since I lasted visited the Belgrave and I’m surprised it’s selling rooms to be honest as the building is so dated the rooms need a total overhaul.

The relatively new management are making some investment but clearly from what I can see when I visited they don’t have a serious  backer to spend the £1,000,000+ required to get this hotel to any reasonable standard.

The bar has been re-decorated and fitted and I enjoyed a few bottles of beer there. There is a large TV screen and comfortable seating area.

Bizarre that they don’t have any draught beers I assume this has got something to do with getting supplies and perhaps credit?.

It’s bottled beers all the way but they are very nice.

I personally would remove the film on the windows which makes it look dark and open it up more.

I wouldn’t contemplate ever staying here Until it has had major refurbishment, Which sadly I don’t think the current owners/managers will deliver.



BAR REVIEW ONLY - Do not stay here

We arrived at the hotel and the location was perfect close to the city and the train station but that’s was as good as it got 
The room we were given was so small there wasn’t even room for a chair the door was hinged so it would go round the bed 
It was clean I think everything was new in the room 
The was an ally next to the room which had people chatting in at night and a bright light was on all night so our room was permanently illuminated 
I would not stay again

The hotel is being used for homeless people. I booked a room for the 28th August (Bank Holiday Weekend) on hotels.com to find my booking had been cancelled when I went to check.

On trying to contact the venue all I got was an invalid number.

On seeing the reviews on here I knew that I was not going to be staying here.

Awful customer service from the hotel and hotels.com for not even calling or emailing to allow us to book somewhere else in a suitable time frame.

BOOKING CANCELLED DUE TO HOTEL BEING USED FOR HOMELESS!!!!

Was due to go on the 4th September for a wedding, booked through Hotels.com. Got a refund from Hotels.com for the booking but no email from the hotel. Been told this hotel is currently been used as a homeless shelter. Can not get another hotel on the date for less than £130 this originally cost me £45 . Not a happy chappie. Gave it 1 because you can’t give 0

Do not book this hotel

Booked in APRIL to stay the end of August for the Bank Holiday weekend, as Iv brought tickets to an event in Chester. June 29 at 20:30 I get an email saying the Belgrave habe cancelled my booking. No explanation why..... Just cancelled. Well thanks for that. Now I have to try and find somewhere else to stay. Whish me look to try and find somewhere on a summer Bank Holiday now. Really not happy!!

Total joke

Sadly I book April for the 26th of June and received an email to say they were cancelling the booking. Now I will not be able to attend my friend's wedding anniversary as everywhere else that is reasonably priced is fully booked. I wouldn't use the hotel ever again as it's left me in an awful predicament. But I suppose to get what I tried to pay and other people attending this event have had the same done to them.
     No reason for cancellation was given.

Belgrave hotel, Chester.

Hotel is operating as a homeless shelter, booked through lastminute.com paid £150 for 2 nights for a trip to Chester races the following day, was greeted by a lady I can only assume was high on drugs, a cloud of smoke and a strong smell of cannabis when she opened the door and also watched as 2 "homeless" people walked out and passed her some cash. She told us if we paid her £200 cash we could stay the 2 nights there !! told her I had paid online and would not be prepared to pay again especially for a homeless hostel, I would of rather of slept in the bus station for the night. We had to travel back to Liverpool and pay for trains again the following day. I was told by lastminute.com they would investigate and issue me a refund, spoke to them again this morning and was told they had been in contact with the hotel ( don't know how as they don't have a working phone number or emails address ) to be told the hotel apparently gave me a cash refund at the door. No one took my name or booking details. the whole situation is disgusting. Wouldn't want anyone else to experience this so please AVOID !!!!!!
