Excellent. Lovely place. Great attention to detail. Friendly staff and very good menu choices. Wide selection of wines and good beers/lager/cider on draft. Fabulous evening entertainment at just the right sound level so we could hear the amazing singer as well as have a conversation. Our room was very sunny and bright, clean, quiet, with a comfortable bed. We are most definitely going back.

Excellent, cosy, friendly and great parking.

We booked for a large family meal.
Upon arrival we found they already had 2 events ongoing leaving very little parking, we were never made aware of this on booking as we would have reconsidered as with having people of limited disability attending parking up the road was not a suitable option.
Both the ladies and men’s toilets were being decorated leaving the ladies to use the one disabled toilet that was also broken, and the men using the urinals whilst someone was in there painting.
15 out of 18 meals came out with burnt food on them.
One of the waitresses just placed a tub of cutlery at the end of one of the tables and left us to pass it round.
On coming to pay they tried to overcharge some our group and then said we hadn’t paid the bill in full despite us proving we had and in fact had overpaid. There was no offer of a refund of the overpayment and no apology for the was were were dealt with.
This was an evening to celebrate 3 significant family birthdays and we all left disappointed vowing never to return.
I did send an email in the hope of being able to discuss the evening and issues with them but have never received any reply hence leaving me no choice but to leave this review.
Customer service seems to be of no important, just trying to overcharge you seems to be all that matters.

Very disappointed and they won’t respond

This was our first visit here, we stayed in our Motorhome in the car park, the food was excellent, we had fish & chips and the steak pie & gravy and Nachos as a sharing starter, good portion size, the staff were friendly and chatty. We really enjoyed our visit and would happily return.


First Visit

Everything about this place is brilliant. The location is so peaceful with beautiful views and scenery. Nice friendly welcome and easy check-in. The room was spacious, well equipped and very clean. Bed was comfortable with plenty of extra bedding if needed. The room was warm (but not too warm!) and temperature could be controlled if needed.

We also treated ourselves to an evening meal which was delicious. Good choice on the menu for all tastes, and the food is clearly freshly prepared and very very tasty. Good value for what you get too. Staff were able to answer questions regarding dietary requirements too which made the experience even better.

Costain and the team were all friendly and welcoming and made sure we were alright and had everything we needed throughout our stay. Would definitely stay again! 

Perfect getaway!

The food here is so, so good! Never had a bad meal here and it is so well priced! 

We recently stayed here after a day out locally and we had a really warm welcome. We were shown our room which was unique, comfortable and cute. The room was warm and it had a bath which was really nice!

I come here for craft fairs to and the staff will bring you food to your stall and really do help you as much as they can.

It feels like a perfect venue to me and we will definitely be back as it is such a brilliant place.

Great food, service and atmosphere 

This place has been through many owners over the years and it's been a long time since our last visit. My Dad's MiL booked as a surprise as they say they're dog-friendly, and I like friendly people. 
It's an odd place in its layout and always has been. A small pub room, a large foyer that also hosts diners, a smaller anteroom called The Library that has around six books and bookshelf wallpaper (!). The large dedicated dining room was dark and empty. 
A couple of starters of halloumi (spelt incorrectly) and battered fishy bits were ok, but small. Mains were pretty bad in all honesty. Pie & Mash came without mash but chips, never mentioned on ordering. The pie was mostly pastry, looked bought-in, not much chicken, insipid. Vegetarian lasagna for two people had clearly been heated by Chef Mike (aka the microwave) and looked like a splodge. Ribs were awful; dry, mealy, a cloyingly sweet sauce. Handcut sweet potato fries were obviously not. A dessert of sticky toffee pudding was not, and heating up a slice of cake and pouring a sauce that tasted of cinder bonfire toffee over it does not make it so.
I saw the kitchen in person years ago and unless it's all been replaced it was equipped and large enough to turn out decent food. But I'd place bets that most, if not all, of everyone's dinner was bought-in and either put in the hands of Chef Mike or dropped in the fryer. Service was very typical of the area - wary, no eye contact, no smiles, no checking if everything was ok.
I suppose it's not bad if this is what you're used to. The bill wasn't huge. But none of it is good at all, and it really, really could be.
And not one member of staff was friendly to me. My Dad had to ask for water. They're dog-acceptable. 

Large Dinner Party

Thought we would give this pub a try after reading a few reviews and only 15 minutes away from home.

It has lots of areas inside where you can drink or dine. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ordered some drinks from the bar which were very good. It wasn't too busy. 

We were shown to a table in the dining room. Sadly it lacked atmosphere although it was spacious and clean. Our seafood starter was delicious, well presented and reasonably priced. Our mains: Pulled pork burger, beautifully presented and my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. Roast beef, sadly it was a bit of a let down. The Yorkshire pudding, roasted carrots, cauliflower cheese and mash potatoes were really good, however it lacked any green veg, the beef was overcooked and the gravy wasn't home made - instant and lumpy - I know I shouldn't expect homemade but at £15.95 I thought it might be.

There's a beer garden to the front and a large car park. As we were leaving a few classic cars started arriving, we were unaware there was a classic car show happening that afternoon, we may have stayed longer had we known.

It's a nice pub and we probably will visit again and try other dishes on the menu.



Sunday roast let down

Wow, wow, wow!!!Stayed for 2 nights with my family and dog. Rooms are immaculate, food was really good even for my son (fish fingers highly recommended) Live music on Saturday performance was amazing, really enjoyed it...Service from check in and in restaurant was outstanding (make sure you booked a table as it is really busy in the evenings) Beautiful surrounding area a lot of places to visit...Thanks Costin and Adina to having us!   

Outstanding!!!

Fantastic food, the portion size is large, well presented, very clean, great service, great beer selection. Dogs and kids welcome. Would highly recommend to everyone and will be our go pub in the future. 

Gorgeous historic pub and hotel

Amazing hotel and pub!!! Outstanding service. Food is to die for and portions are really big ... Please make sure you book a table as place is getting really busy and really popular...It was life music show on Saturday and we really enjoyed it,plus hotel and pub is dog friendly... Highly recommended!!!
