Love staying in the nicely-appointed, self-catering luxurious cottage.  Environment is tranquil, house is clean and well maintained, bed linens and towels are soft, and the welcome basket is impressively well provided.  Have all the necessary crockery and utensils to make decent and heartwarming meals for family.  Sky package and netflix provided sufficient entertainment for all ages and there are boardgames and books too!  Descriptions on website are not exaggerating at all.

Perfect exeat!

Our third visit to Bruern, and it never tires for us. We stayed overnight only on this occasion, in Weir House, and what a lovely house it is. Big enough for an extended family with several bedrooms and reception rooms. Recommended 5*

Overnight Stay at Weir House.

We chose to book a week's stay at Goodwood cottage after believing the hyperbole on the Bruern Cottage website. 
In the final days building up to our holiday we received no arrival information and despite chasing for an explanation of where to collect keys and park etc. the staff never got in touch. We arrived shortly after 5pm to an empty office and had to ring an out of hours mobile number which went unanswered for 15mins. Someone then texted back with a pin code for the door key.
I enquired what had gone wrong the next day (when the office was open) and was astonished at how nonplussed and arrogant the staff were. Their attitude was essentially: 'our IT systems never fail and it must have been your email accounts that are broken'. When I asked for the mysterious arrival info email to be resent to a different account, that too failed to be delivered. QED. 
Unfortunately, rude customer service aside, it didn't get much better. The property was dirty and smelly and the furnishings and appliances are all worn and tired. The ensuite shower was broken and the other family bathroom shower was mostly blocked with limescale. There were foul marks on the bathrooms doors - they clearly don't make an effort to clean their properties.
The grounds are great - but then so is most of W. Oxfordshire in July. The swimming pool is convenient for kids as it's only about 1m deep but it's housed in a pretty soulless conservatory-type building.
We ended up leaving a day early and I formally complained to the manager who was again rude, dismissive and patronising - even psychoanalysing me! It all got a bit weird but at least resulted in an £800 refund. Still, for £3k a week this isn't value for money. There's nothing luxurious about Goodwood cottage. No 'state of the art' interior; more like: an old tv, greasy remote controller and a CD player (sans CDs)! Obviously we won't be returning.

Don't believe their hype

Cope cottage is a wonderful place to stay for a couple, or perhaps with one small child. We took Sandown and Cope this year. My wife and I in Cope, and my sons family in Sandown. Since last year there has been a lot of work carried out in the gardens, particularly the river walk has been opened up, and the gardens were lovely. I think the Hares love the gardens too. 🐇 we saw a couple running about in the evening when it was quiet. Bruern is a lovely tranquil place to come, especially as a family group, the staff are great and we had a really enjoyable week. We’ll definitely return next year. 

June @ Cope Cottage

We had a fabulous week long stay at Bruern with our children aged one and three (the Trip Advisor site only gives the option to write a review for a family group with teens).  The cottage was cosy and comfortable and it felt like every detail had been carefully considered. The kitchen was well stocked with good quality equipment and the beds were excellent.  Our children loved the box of books and toys provided in our cottage and most of the equipment provided e.g. the high chair and cot were excellent.
The site itself was even better than the cottage. We swam every day and our three year old has told anyone who will listen that the pool was the highlight of his holiday. Both our children loved the play cabin, Wendy house and outdoor play area.
The goodies provided were all delicious.
There are excellent outings within a short distance e.g. the Cotswold Farm Park and Batsford Arboretum.  It was an absolute joy to spend a week in such a lovely place.

If there had been the option, we would have given Bruern 4.5 stars due to a couple of minor quibbles.  The website needs updating: at least two of the recommended outings nearby are permanently closed, the swimming lessons described are no longer available and the toiletry brand has changed.   The stairgate provided didn't really work. Someone came to look at it within 24 hours of us flagging this but it still didn't work effectively which, given the drop off the right hand side of the stairs, was not ideal. We accidentally locked ourselves out one morning and no one answered the office phone or emergency number. We found someone working on site who found us a spare key so it wasn't a problem as such but we were surprised that no one was contactable within office hours.  These are all minor details however. Overall, we had a wonderful time!

A lovely family holiday

18th year of going to Bruern!  We loved the pool and the new kitchen in epsom, the single room was a delight.

It gives such a homely feel which we love. 
We have stayed in every cottage apart from Weir House and Shipton so are excited to try those.

Amazing stay at Epsom Cottage

This return visit to Bruern Cottages was for 6 nights over Christmas 2022.As a couple we stayed in Cope Cottage. There is a large bedroom with a very comfortable double bed. The bathroom is attached to the bedroom and  has a good shower over a full size bath.
There is a spacious lounge/dining room, lined with multiple  shelves containing books for all tastes. The hearth  is provisioned with requirements for a log fire. A large , beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lounge was a lovely surprise. 
There is an amazing attention to detail throughout the Cottage, including the very well equipped kitchen.  There was a   starter pack of well selected basic provisions . Car parking was available right outside the front door. The Cottage was spotlessly clean on our arrival. 
Our family - 4 adults and six grand children, stayed in Weir House. This was very spacious - no problem sitting 12 around the table for Christmas dinner. Weir was also very well equipped . It was well furnished and very comfortable, with an interesting collection of eclectic pictures  on the walls.
The use of bicycles for all ages and sizes was a bonus. The swimming pool and games room were well used by the family.
There is an abundance of walks around the Cottages, most of which are dog friendly. 
In summary we had a wonderful family Christmas and we all look forward to coming back again to Bruern.

Bruern Cottages provides a hospitable welcome, comfort and amenities for all ages

We rented Weir Cottage, which is just lovely. Surrounded by gardens, furnished beautifully and comfortably. Our family of 10 fell in love with the entire property. The staff was very unobtrusive but so accommodating. It was a great week long stay in a terrific property. Loved the welcome basket and provisions!

Loved our visit

I have been to bruern for 15 years now and have loved every stay. We have stayed in Newmarket, Shipton, Aintree, Goodwood, Epsom and Bookers so we know it quite well. Every cottage is nice but Newmarket is the least cottage out of them all. Bookers is the best. Aintree is very small and is a bit dated but nevertheless they provide a wonderful stay. I can't wait for next yeat.

Beautiful Cottages

We loved our stay at Bruern. Our cottage was beautifully done out, with lovely attention to detail. The grounds and garden were lovely, with great facilities to enjoy our stay. It was so peaceful and idyllic. There's lovely quaint villages nearby with great shops and pubs to enjoy a day out too. Burford was picturesque and quaint and  just 15 mins drive away. We'll definitely be back to Bruern cottages for another break away from London.
