Only people booked in, no food available on Saturday evening even though the blurb in the room said food available "Mon-*Sat 12-9".Room freezing but small electric radiator provided, bathroom fittings old and somewhat rusty. On the plus side good breakfast and lovely people, overpriced for what it actually is, lovely old building for which allowances can be made, but  maybe should have been notified about the lack of a chef!!!

Disappointing

Having needing a room for a single night to attend a local function I was pleased with the quality of the accommodation.
Greeted and advised of facilities was ok, mostly due to the fact that it takes part in a noisy pub, very cordial though.
Room was tidy and just what I needed considering I was off out quickly.
Not ensuite but I knew that when I booked however was reflected in the price.
Left before breakfast sadly, tea and coffee in room was ok

Single night

We booked the function room for our sons christening party. The room was perfect, really nice size with lots of tables, it even had private toilets just for our guests. We had the buffet provided by the pub and the food was just so nice! Everyone commented on how good it was and there was a lovely selection and was all displayed very nicely. 
Now, I personally didn’t have any trouble with the staff, but 5 of our party guests all made the same complaint about a member of staff being incredibly rude. She was obviously busy and they didn’t have many staff, but they did know about the function for a while so maybe they could have prepared better. She was very ‘huffy’ and was short with people who were ordering drinks. My friends asked for a cup of tea and she replied rudely by huffing and saying she would have to go and boil the kettle! She also barged last guests and didn’t say excuse me. 
Anyway, I wasn’t affected personally by this woman, I guess she was maybe having a bad day. I would highly recommend holding a function here.

Christening party!

We visited here on a lunchtime me, hubby, daughter and two grandkids 
Ordered drinks at bar and asked for menu to be told ‘we are not doing food as we don’t have a chef, the only food we do is  a carvery on Wednesday and sunday’

Restaurant with no chef

I think the owner is trying very hard to get the place up and going with a small staff. The room was small with two, two foot six narrow beds. The room was clean but not too clean and the en suite shower room had black mould in the shower. The electric shower struggled to supply hot water continuously. The advertised WiFi did not work as there was according to the owner a wiring issue. The breakfast was OK but you had to ask for things although it was laid as a buffet. At £76 for the night I would not recommend it. I hope the owner gets it up and running as it could be a nice hotel in a reasonable position just outside Bristol.

Not a great place to stay

We booked two nights at The White Lion. We only stayed for one. 
Arriving on Sunday afternoon, we were disappointed to find that the restaurant wasn't open on Sunday evenings. A close scrutiny of their website and a deduction on our part by looking at the menu choices did lead us to make the discovery - too late - that food serving finished at 4.00pm on Sunday. Communicating this at the time of booking would have meant we could have made other arrangements.
On leaving our room for breakfast next morning, which we had been told when we checked in was between 7.15 and 8.30 in the restaurant, we discovered two wrapped bowls and two wrapped plates containing our breakfasts on the floor outside our room. A packet of children's cereal (Coco Pops!!!) from a variety pack, a pint of whole milk, two very cheap, very nasty, very cold "croissants" butter and jam. Not the freshly cooked buffet choice we were expecting. When I checked that this was it as far as breakfast was concerned I was told that we should have been told when we checked in that there was no chef on in the morning. We most definitely were not. The owner did offer to cook us a breakfast if we really wanted one, which I declined. So no cooked food on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

We also had a Fawlty Towers moment of another guest being shown into our room - by mistake, obviously, but without so much as an apology from the young girl.

We decided not to stay for the second night. The owner graciously offered to refund the second night's fee, which I'll be looking out for.

Poor communication throughout

Friendly young lady welcomed us, plenty of parking off road and a nice bar and outside seating. Room fine, plenty of space and it was good value. There is a good looking menu in the restaurant which we planned to go to but when I rang to book a couple of days before arrival I was told it was not open as there was a wedding do? A bit disappointed that they couldn’t have messaged us to say there would be no restaurant when we stayed? 

Not a bad hotel

Read a mixture of reviews for the while lion, yes it is basic a bit tired but the rooms were clean towels and beds clean ! The breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty and it was good quality! Every member of staff we came across were polite and friendly,. All in all a nice stay and would definitely return!
