We stayed for 3 nights with 2 days of guided walking on our second visit. All the common areas of the hotel have now been refurbished to a high standard. Our room was one that has not yet been refurbished but was clean and contained everything that we needed. The staff and walks leaders were very friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of freshly prepared food that was better than many restaurants we have been to. The dining room has a fabulous view over the surrounding hills and countryside but it was quite noisy with all the conversation going on!

Guided walking long weekend break

this house has just finished a major renvation. It no longer has a pool unfortunately.
Had a nice room with a nice spacious ensuite. Meals were very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely views over the gardens and countryside. well worth a visit

Staying at Longmynd House

Long Mynd House has almost completed it's renovation. The House is looking wonderful and all facilities were excellent. My room on the 3rd floor was perfectly equipped for a break with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The bed was very comfortable and the en-suite bathroom has a good strong shower and plenty of towels. 
Breakfast has plentiful and tasty with an excellent choice of hot and cold options. The packed lunches were very good with freshly prepared sandwiches and a great choice of various fruits, savouries and sweet items. 
Dinner choices were also very good with a well cooked 3 course meal prepared nightly.
The Long Mynd staff were, without exception, all excellent. They were friendly, helpful and very professional.  Service at table was prompt and efficient, food was always hot and beautifully served.
The Discovery Room had a great selection of walking trails which, as an unguided customer, I made use of every day.
Whilst I didn't have any guided walks, I did meet with and enjoy the company and conversations of the volunteer guides who were all great company.
This is my 1st HF break and as a solo traveller, I will definitely return. The experience was sociable and friendly and it was lovely to have company at mealtimes and share conversations with so many lovely fellow travellers.

Fabulous walking holiday at Long Mynde

The hotel was being renovated when we stayed, so there was a certain amount of disruption, but we were out walking during the day, so it wasn't a problem.
The staff were really friendly: Tiff, the  manager, Gabor, the barman, and Richard, who arranged for our group to sit together for meals, We were a self guided group, and there was a huge choice of walks, plus advice from the guides who were very happy to advise us of the most suitable routes. The food was good and varied, and there was plenty of it, particularly the packed lunches. I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely staff, great food

Lovely warm welcome from the Manager - Tiff - who ran the house like clockwork.  another shout out to the Bar Manager - Gabor - friendly and funny.  The Chef served up the best roast beef Sunday dinner I have ever eaten !  In fact all the meals were plentiful and of great quality.
We stayed in the Magpie room which was very comfortable and clean.
The walk leaders/assessors and trainee leaders were so friendly and engaging.
We went self guided and the routes provided were ideal and comprehensive.  On the communal tables, we found from the guided walkers, they were just as happy.
Couldn't fault it there - it was my first walking holiday and hope to have many more.

Very happy indeed

Just returned from this 3 night break and was very impressed.  I agree that a bit of sprucing up wouldn't go amiss, which has been delayed because of COVID. However, it had a great seating area/bar with stunning views over the hills.  It was clean and the bed was super-comfy.  The food was amazing, chosen the day before, with plenty of choice and served on hot plates.  Breakfast was self service and was also excellent.  We had multiple choices for our packed lunches and three walks to choose from each day, all starting from the hotel.  The scenery in the Longmynd is fabulous.  The party night and quiz night were fun, and we met some lovely people.  We had a great stay and I would recommend this hotel.

HF Step into Christmas break

I was impressed of course by the scenic view from my “premium” room and also with the thoughtful extra amenities, such as “smalls” drying rack, decaf coffee, lighted bathroom mirror, robe and slippers, expandable table, digital clock-radio, footwear-theme mugs, and WiFi that worked in the room. The food - mine, vegan - was plentiful and good. The staff were excellent. The boot room and cleaning facilities are excellent. (I was on a HF Holidays walking holiday in November.)

Comfortable rooms and excellent service

A recent 3 night stay on a combined dance and walking holiday through the H F.  The reception and bar staff very friendly and helpful.  The staff in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast were very organised and cheerful.. The options for dinner, for non vegetarians offered a good choice, which you pre-ordered after breakfast, and the system worked very well.  The food was nicely presented, hot and our table of eight all served at the same time.  The chefs made a special effort to cater to special diets.  

The "better" single room I paid a supplement for, was very clean and a credit to the housekeeping team.  It had recently been refurbished, with a super shower cubicle, plenty of hot water, heated towel rail and bathrobe.  Lots of hanging and drawer space/units, and modern decor and furnishings.  The view over the valley from my 3rd floor room was nice.   The lounges overlooked the garden, and there was also a wooden sculpture trial in the grounds, and a swimming pool is open in the summer month - not in October!  Plenty of parking spaces and a 15 minute walk from the station.  This was my first visit to this hotel and first time on a HF holiday and will definitely book another weekend break.

Friendly Hotel owned by H F Holidays

The repairs have been put back every year for the last five years.  Signs of water ingress in the small dining room.  According to the planning application work will include destroying the pool and replacing it with a terrace and complete replacement of that face of the building.


In urgent need of repair and refurbishment

A large and somewhat tiara hotel taken over by HF. It was bought in a dry run down state and still needs a lot more refurbishment. It should be remembered that  this is for people booking HF walking holidays. If not walking with them may not be suitable for you. Excellent if staying on your own by the communal tables and evening activities. Excellent hard working staff. Real Ale is Ludlow Brewery.  Some self catering lodges on site away from site. No single supplement charge if you are lucky.
