We have stayed with friends in the village this week & visited The Fox twice, once for Sunday lunch & then an evening meal tonight. Both were excellent meals with very friendly, helpful & accommodating hosts. A lovely local pub!

Excellent meals

Booked a family room back in April 22 for a wedding my family was attending in July 22. Booked via their website, spoke to Inn by phone end of April to confirm parking etc.
When we arrived in July was told room had been taken (double booked). It seems the family who had our room had paid more. Was offered a small double for a family of 4 which was not suitable. Called owner who resides in Devon. Who told me there was nothing they could do about the situation.
Ended up missing the rest of the wedding and having to travel back to Cornwall, due to no other accommodation being available.
Still no explanation from owners or apology for their incompetance. Will avoid at all costs next time I am looking for accommodation in this area.

If you do decide to book this hotel make sure you phone just before your stay to make sure they haven't double booked the room (to more lucrative clients)

Booked a family room via the Pub/hotel website well in advance as we were attending a wedding in the area.  When we arrived to check in we were informed by the new manager that the room had been double booked!!!!  WTAF!!  

The manager actually showed us the system which showed both bookings for the same room - who the hell is checking what bookings are coming up to avoid such a complete and utter f£&k up!  We did discover that the people in the room that we had booked had in fact paid £100 more for the room than us - a recurring theme from looking at some of the recent reviews (convenient???)

We were offered the only empty room which would have resulted in 2 of us sleeping on the floor (or potentially in the divan king size bed that the manager was going to attempt to shoe-horn into the room).  The other alternative given was the possibility of my husband and one of my sons sleeping on the sofa in the communal area (again WTAF!!).

The result of this sh!tshow was us not being able to attend the rest of a family wedding and having to drive home to CORNWALL as there were no hotel rooms to be had in the area (we looked as far afield as Bristol and Bath)!

Attempted to discuss with the owner who never bothered to return our call (customer service seems to be on par with their booking and checking skills).

There was a small misunderstanding as we thought on the day that we had booked through booking.com.  but after investigating during the LONG and UNEXPECTED 3.5 HR drive home we had in fact booked through the hotel website - so had they bothered to look into it themselves they should also now know this and had the decency to contact us to apologise themselves.

18/6 Greeted by a very morose landlord who said he had taken over the day before & that our room was double booked although we had confirmation on 19/5/22. 
Very grudging apology. Now very glad there was no room for us. Avoid!!!

Appalling

Absolutely horrendous experience. Received a message on day of staying saying ‘hotel is shut ‘ let us know what time you are arriving and we will meet you. I texted 3 times and received no reply . We arrived and waited 75 mins outside until the owners arrived . They didn’t apologise and asked for a credit card. We said we’d booked a table for dinner with them but they said kitchen is closed. No apology .
I asked to see the room , they refused and were really nasty and aggressive and asked us to ‘get off their property’ . We left and found alternative accommodation along with 2 other guests who had also booked through booking. Com and been waiting  outside for almost 3 hours . 
Do NOT stay here , the attitude of the new owners is appalling. They are both rude and aggressive.

Avoid , avoid , avoid

We stayed at the Fox Inn in May 2022. Simon and Catherine have recently taken over. 
We received a warm welcome. The rooms were spotless.  As their chef had not yet arrived Simon was kind enough to give us a lift to the nearest restaurant.

Highly recommended

Stayed overnight at The Fox, Hawkesbury Upton. Made to feel very welcome by the friendly couple who run it. The room was spotless with a very comfortable bed. Continental breakfast provided in the price was lovely with juice, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, tea or coffee. Would definitely recommend & wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Friend’s funeral

This is sad to post but needs to be spread. The Fox Inn, high street, Hawkesbury Upton, near Badminton horse trials.. 
Think carefully before using them. Why, well I booked several rooms from 2nd to the 5th of May 2022 for the grass roots championships. We are competing luckily, I booked on 19th August 2021, so plenty of time.

Now February 2022, I get a phone call saying its under new ownership and they want to put up the cost by over 600%!!!
Why? Because they can sell the rooms for more to others.....

I refuse to accept this behaviour. They were happy to accept my booking via booking.com. the booking agent called them and then tells me the inn now say their rates were incorrectly loaded on the system, again not my problem but a blatant lie. Yes a lie because I went on their own website and booked a room direct for the same rate as booking.com.

So this business is full of it. Disgraceful behaviour, I am making you all aware  plus all my friends in the surrounding villages to Badminton. 

Now will they care about my rant and disappointment? Probably not, but you need to know what sort they are.

Beware of mis truths!

Me and my partner stayed here. The room is ideal, it is located closely to Wooten under edge and the managers couldn’t do enough for us. Breakfast was tasty and even the locals were beyond friendly and very welcoming!!  

Strongly recommended to everyone!!!

Wonderful stay in Cotswolds

Stayed here for a couple of nights for a family wedding. Very friendly couple. The room was clean and a good size. Very comfortable bed. Sadly the couple managing this are leaving due to lack of business which is such a shame as they have made it beautiful. There is a beautiful open fire and cosy bar. The breakfast was cooked fresh and very tasty. Nothing was too much trouble. Faultless. Wish I could say we will be back but wish the couple luck in the future.
