We wanted somewhere to stay within walking distance of Clitheroe town centre, where the annual Food Festival was taking place. Andrew emailed us in advance to find out our arrival time, so that he could ensure that he was there to meet us, show us round and go through all the practicalities. This is no twee B & B, it is definitely "Boutique," just how we like it; being very modern, spacious, on trend and spotlessly clean. There is ample parking and our room had a superb outlook  across the valley to Pendle Hill. Andrew is justifiably proud of his establishment, nothing was too much trouble and he made us thoroughly welcome. His ample cooked breakfast set us up for the day.

Weekend at Clitheroe Food festival

We were attending a wedding at Bashall Barn and stayed here for one night. This place is an absolute hidden gem. We received an incredibly warm welcome from the owner Andrew on arrival. He gave us a mini tour of the communal areas before showing us to our room. The room was huge and nicely decorated with a beautiful en suite shower room and white company toiletries! It was clean and bright with gorgeous views of Ribble Valley. There was plenty choice for breakfast which we were asked to confirm the evening before and an approximate time but we very much felt this was flexible and they would have accommodated any changes. The breakfast was absolutely lovely and plentiful. Just the tonic following gin the night before! I was shocked given the accommodation was full that we heard barely any noise from other guests. We really enjoyed our stay here and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

A Hidden Gem!

We just spent 4 nights at Fifty One and a Half Boutique B&B and we loved it. It is a 5 minute walk from the town center of Clitheroe (and the train station) while situated off a quiet residential cul-de-sac right next to a field of sheep and a fantastic view to Pendle Hill (which can be seen from a couple of bedrooms and the breakfast room). The room we had (on the third floor) was spacious and scrupulously clean and pretty much perfect, with an amazing view. Andrew was a great host--helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Fast wi fi, lots of easy-access parking. Can't recommend it highly enough, as we've stayed in a lot of B&Bs!

Brilliant B&B in beautiful location

Fantastic B &B just out of town in a lovely quiet location with amazing views from the Pendle Room.  Wonderful host, very welcoming and helpful with local knowledge of visitor attractions, bars & restaurants.  Room was immaculate, loved the bath and all the finishing touches.  Breakfast was also excellent.  Will definitely return.

Excellent

My boyfriend took me on a surprise birthday weekend to North Anglia/Scotland 2.5 years ago and we stayed in this lovely bed and breakfast. It took me a long time to leave this comment because I'm lazy like that, but I would definitely recommend this place. Unique beautiful accommodation with very friendly service. Even the name is cool. Finding the place is like a little adventure - as the name suggests: Fifty one and a half. Nice memory looking back. Thank you. 🙂

Birthday present

I think my header says it all. Stayed here on a Saturday night whilst going to a wedding in clitheroe. Firstly a wonderful welcome from Andrew then shown round the gorgeous house and facilities before being shown to our amazing spacious room. Gorgeous bed with superb bedding
. Lovely bathroom with fab bath. Breakfast amazing too. Andrew is the best host and cannot do enough for you. Cant wait to stay again and would 100% recommend x

We stayed overnight here while attending a friends wedding nearby. Massive and spotlessly clean, with a lovely host who could not do too much for us. Perfect location just a few mins walk from the train station. Quiet with a comfy bed and great nights sleep. Fantastic vegetarian fry up in the morning! 

Lovely B&B

The b&b is in a house which is part of (but a bit separate from) a small newish housing development and is in a separate building from the owner’s house next door. We had a warm welcome from Andrew, the owner. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Tea & coffee plus biscuits in the room, plus use of a kitchen and a lounge if we’d wanted them. Nice view, plenty of parking, and only a few minutes’ walk from Clitheroe - the Castle grounds are worth a wander.
Those are the positives, but I’m afraid that there were some negatives. Despite the room being a good size there was only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed. There were no tissues or flannels and only one hand towel (plus 2 bath towels). The White Company toiletries were either fixed to the wall or in teeny-tiny 30ml bottles: we wondered if they’d had problems with guests removing stuff, and it made us feel a bit not-trusted. Found tights from a previous guest in a bedside drawer (yuck). One of the mugs wasn’t entirely clean and there were smudges on the window. There were no books and only one local magazine. The house has no carpets, so noise echoes and we were woken up by other guests slamming doors in the early hours of the morning. The shower drain blocks (this is a known problem apparently) and so we had to keep turning the shower off to allow the water to drain away. There’s no lock on the downstairs toilet door.
We were asked for our breakfast choice on arrival but not shown the menu, the owner filled it in for us and we said ‘um, full English I suppose’, but it would have been nice to see what the other options were (we were very tired so probably not the best time to quiz us on the next morning’s breakfast). The full English was good, well cooked and good ingredients, but we were very surprised that there was no fruit, yoghurt or, for example, croissants, on offer. Toast was 1 slice of medium bread each from a sliced loaf, we were asked if we wanted more but it wasn’t the same as being given plenty to start with. Similarly, cereal was on offer, but ‘help yourself to cereal’ would have been better than ‘do you want cereal?’ I appreciate that this is a fine distinction, but all these things added up to feeling that the whole package just wasn’t anywhere near worth £130 a night. For that price we expected something a bit special, and the whole experience felt anything but.
ps If the person who yawned her way through breakfast - loudly, persistently and without covering her mouth - is reading this, she may want to get some manners.
