Brilliant location, family friendly, simple rooms with great self catering facilities.  Shower facilities are basic but do the job. Communal areas are cosy.  Lovely breakfasts.

Excellent walking straight from the doorstep.

Excellent location

First impressions count and the mile-long janky access track and wild-west setting of this hostel contributed brilliantly to the adventure feel. We arrived wet off the hill and had our boots in the drying room before we'd even managed to check in. The lad on reception was friendly and welcoming and we immediately felt that magical cameraderie that is a youth hostel at its best. There was a slight miscommunication and he was prepared to go far out of his way to help us until he realised that everything was already sorted. The building is a heritage asset in its own right and although it is a bit creaky it has clearly been loved for generations and is functional and homely. The kitchen is large and well-equipped and the great night's sleep set us up for the next day's walking in dry gear thanks to the excellent drying room. Everything you want from a hostel.

Great hostel in superb location with friendly staff

This is such an amazing hostel with reasonable price(10 quid per night!). You will love staying here for a peaceful break isolated from a pack of people!. Everything is perfect. A clean and warm place. I stayed one night after a long walk and hiking. The hostel just located 1 mile away from the town centre. I felt a warm welcome from a staff and she is really helpful. The self-cartering kitchen is nice so you can bring your own food or you can order food (dinner and breakfast from staff) if you don't want to cook! I stayed in the dormitory. Only bad thing is they don't have small light for your bed. But it's fine anyway! Who cares when you are exhauseted after hiking all daa long. All I need is sleep!

 I will come back and stay longer next time. If you love hiking and staying in the middle of the mountain view, I recommend trying this hostel.

The wonderful hostel with moutain scenary and less than a minute to feet of the moutains

4 of us stayed this weekend, great location for walking old man of coniston, scafell pike etc. 
Really helpful staff, cracking cooked breakfasts, clean and comfy bedrooms, hot showers and handy drying rooms. Everything you need really. 

Great value for money

This hostel is in a stunning location - the track up to it makes it feel very remote and the views are amazing.  Yet Coniston, a mile away has shops and pubs so you have the best of both worlds.  Hostel is clean with friendly staff.  A great trip.

stunning location

Excellent small cosy hostel with modern refurbished rooms and WC facilities. Very friendly staff and a great place to stay for a few days in the hills. 15 mins walk to town as at the end of a gravel path but easy enough to walk or drive in as required.

Coniston stay for Lake District Mountain Walking

My son and I had a fantastic 3 days here as a post exam treat. It really is a stunning away from it all location. The food was delicious. The staff incredibly helpful and friendly. All facilities really clean. 

A stunning location

A group of 11 of us stayed here while doing the three peak challenge. Having arrived at the hostel later than we had expected, we found that they had stopped serving food and we were so hungry after a long day of climbing and driving. Although they couldn't offer the full menu, they still sorted us out with some home made pizza's, which were lovely! 
The hostel is clean and in a beautiful location, the path on the way up is a bit 'off road' but it is not as bad as some of the reviews on here make out. 
It is a shame that we didn't get more time to spend in the area!

Warm, friendly, welcoming hostel

Nicely sized spotless hostel in tranquil, slightly off the beaten track location. Very friendly staff and great cooked breakfast. Well equipped self catering kitchen and charming lounge with amazing views.

Cosy friendly hostel

Once you've survived the rocky mile up to the Coppermines Valley a delightful little hostel awaits you.  Friendly staff, with time to chat (and cooking up a satisfying breakfast in my experience - did my own evening meal).  The location is stunning, the beds comfortable, and you're spoilt for choice regarding walks - you're halfway up The Old Man, for example, or Wetherlam if that's preferred.  You can eat in the well-equipped Members' Kitchen or the Dining Room with super-comfy chairs, or al fresco (with super views) if you prefer.  An experience which should be part of every hosteller's hostel life!
