Do not stay here !! A friend and I were staying here as a cheap place for a night out. I couldn't find parking so had to go and ask as noone answering phone. Once managed to find parking drag my cases and other belongings up the hill. The response I received from the owner was that the room needed to be paid for immediately. Before a hello or a welcome. Once paid I was told my room was on the second floor handed a key and then left alone. My friend joined me a little later.i had to go into the street to show her where to park.
We stayed in the room for a while which was freezing. We were on our way out when I took a tumble down the VERY steep stairs. I got my head and was knocked unconscious. My friend tried to get help but could not get an answer. She had called ambulance and still the owner had not checked to see if all ok. This was around 10pm in the evening. My friend arrived back around 4:30am after leaving me at the hospital with family. She had 2 quilts and her dressing gown on as it was so cold. Still no enquiry from the owner despite the fact that my blood remained in the stair carpet. 
Once she was leaving around 10am the next morning was when the owner asked if something had happened because she had noticed blood. Did not bother to ask if I was ok or if my friend needed anything. Absolutely disgraceful customer service. Not that there was any. Hazardous building!! If I had been alone I probably wouldn't be here to write this review.

Near fatal

Absolutely horrendous, very unwelcoming. We booked a room at Highcroft Guesthouse for 4 nights as I had to attend my graduation at the end of November. This is an important remark, as in November the temperatures tend to drop, and this particular November was exceptionally cold with temperatures varying between 0 and 3 degrees outside. However, as the radiator was not on, the room was just as cold, and the bathroom even colder. When I told the old lady who "runs" this place about this she was adamant that the radiators automatically turn on at 6 and there's nothing we could do about it. There was an electric radiator, but it was by no means enough to warm up the entire room and keep me and my family from freezing to death. The shower was a dribble, as it took about 3 minutes only to wet my hair. I cannot provide any information as to the breakfast, because I found it to be in the early morning hours - 7-8am, which is an unreasonable time compared to other B&Bs and hotels. Yet another way to turn people away and save up on cash I assume. When it was time for us to check out - that is 10:30am, said lady knocked on the door demanding rather rudely that we leave immediately. I told her that we need 5 more minutes as we needed to get our bags out of the room, to which she replied that we need to leave NOW, not in 5 minutes, as it was 10:30. Fair enough, it is their policy for the guests to leave at a said time, however, I do not think that the 5 extra minutes were detrimental to her running the place, as she was about to clean the room next door, and we felt very unwelcome. Luggage storage was allegedly available according to Booking's website. However, we were refused this service as the lady claimed there would be no one in the house to give us our luggage back around 1-2pm. The place has strongly reminded me of Fawlty Towers right from the start (in terms of aesthetics etc), but after staying there for 4 nights I can safely conclude that it does so in terms of quality of service too. If you have a choice just book somewhere else.

Make sure you pack a heater

I paid for my booking online on booking.com via Apple Pay, I have a confirmation email to prove it plus my bank statement on online banking. The woman insisted I hadn’t paid for my room and stood arguing with me for around 15 minutes before allowing us into the room on the condition her son would come talk to me in the evening. Which he did not as his mum the owner must’ve realised I had paid for the room. The room was absolutely freezing in the morning also. Would not recommend to anybody. Rude staff and you could probably find a better hotel for the same price.

All round awful

Thought the place was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Owner was friendly and so were other members of staff. For a cheap and cheerful place to stay it was perfect. We didn’t have breakfast but it smelt very nice!! Only one small criticism is the cleaning lady didn’t keep toilet paper stocked up in either of the bathrooms even when there was none when she cleaned. But that is the only criticism of the place we could say. Many Thanks and would definitely stay there again if in the area. 

From 16th to 19th

The owner gave me a warm welcome, there was a real family feel to the hotel. The owner was very helpful and advised on where to go my room was clean nd spacious. The shared bathroom was as nice and was only shared with one other room. Breakfast was sufficient although basic. The location was very good, a 10 minute walk to re centre of the city.

Just as described

Travelling from Norwich, we received a very unclear voicemail so rang the hotel eventually got through so say our booking had been cancelled, no real care in the world that we had now been left in limbo or even any advice on where we might try?! 
It then took booking. Com several failed attempts to get through to them to actually cancel our booking on line they did it themselves! We knew it wasn’t going to be great hotel from the price but we only wanted a base but for sure would not bother again! And looking at reviews we have now found on other sites this isn’t the first time they have randomly just cancelled people!

Left in limbo!

Booked back in November with booking.com
On the morning of the booking the guest house called to cancel my booking no help with finding new accommodation and no reply to emails and telephone calls.
They didn’t cancel my reservation on booking.com but luckily I called booking.com to resolve it! They where about to take my money for a stay I had been told had been cancelled! Booking.com are currently investing this guest house!
DONT BOOK OR STAY HERE!

Don’t book it’s a scam!

Booked single and double room for 13 October, this was on 19 March.

Just had phone call to ask how many rooms I booked. On advising it was 2 I was told they can not accomodate us. Claimed to only have 1 room at the B&B! Denied they were overbooked. Could not advise alternative Guest House. 

Frankly - do not waste your time booking as it means nowt to them. Go elsewhere. Not easy to do at short notice of course. I will drive home from the theatre now as can not find accomodation at short notice. Still, that's my problem. Suggest you avoid this Guest House or you may have same issue.
