I visited on a coach trip last week and was immensely impressed. My room was warm, cosy and spotless. It was cleaned every day and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and there was entertainment every night. There was plenty of delicious food served at breakfast and dinner by polite, helpful staff.

Turkey and Tinsel

Just enjoyed a 5 day break with Alfa travel at the George 1V Hotel. 
The hotel and bedrooms were lovely and clean, hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and  couldn’t do enough for us.
Entertainment was very good.
Only downside was the entertainment room was cold.
would definitely go again in the future.

Great friendly hotel

The bedroom was larger than usual and included chairs and table to sit rather than just using the bed. Bed was roomy and very comfortable. Shower was excellent. Staff were friendly and worked very hard. Food was high standard and the bar had a good selection of drinks. Nightly entertainment was pretty good and the Saturday singer was exceptional.

Nice hotel friendly staff good food entertainment every night free WiFi clean rooms and the rest of the hotel I would definitely go back again train station not far from the hotel regular bus service the beach and castle are not far away local convenience store just up the street

Coach holiday

We spent four nights in the George IV Hotel in Criccieth as part of Alfa Travel’s tour ‘Welsh Scenic Railways’ (Sept 7-13th 2023). We had booked a Castle View Room, it was a front facing room (217), but the castle was obscured behind trees, although it was just possible to see the sea. The room was however large with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space and an abundance of electrical sockets and the bathroom too was large and fitted with a modern shower.
It is the speed of service in the restaurant which is usually the prime concern to us in a hotel and that was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. The quality of the food at breakfast was fine as was the service, but the food for the evening meal was a bit varied. There was a good choice of starters and the puddings were all very nice. The pork and the fish and chips were very good, but the chicken was the toughest I had ever encountered and the mushroom risotto was what I can only describe as dire, puréed like baby food and we were not the only people that commented on the chicken and the risotto. They were both however edible, if only just.
Overall, our stay was a pleasant one and we would not have a problem in staying at this hotel again in the future.

An Enjoyable Stay

we stayed at his hotel for a New year holiday,
the hotel is situated on the main road,
their is No car park at the hotel, but the is a car park a short walk way plus some parking bay on the road,
their is a few steps into the hotel,
all the staff were very friendly and helpful,
the lounge area is a bit dated  but had some cosy seating but very clean,
their is a small snug bar which is very nice and a entertainment room,
the dinning room has some beautiful wood paneling,
the rooms were comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, 
the food and service was excellent the restaurant staff were very obliging, and friendly, 
New Years Eve was fantastic the entertainer Mandy had every one joining in,
the staff severed sandwiches and cake on the evening,
the village is very picturesque and a nice sea front 
some rooms had views of the Castle
I have dietary needs which the staff would explain to me what on the menu  they were very understanding,

excellent stay

For the cost of this break for 4 nights full board including transport at Christmas you’re not going to get fine dining. That said the food exceeded my expectations. There were enough options at each meal (including vegetarian and vegan) that anyone should find something they liked. Food was always hot if supposed to be and on warm plates too. Service was friendly, efficient and prompt too. 

Room was clean and adequately equipped although the lack of toiletries came as a surprise. Soap supplied but no shower gel, body lotion or shampoo. Tea and coffee were supplied along with kettle, sugar and UHT milk. All replenished daily as part of servicing the room (even on Christmas Day). 

Only small complaint was the temperature of the room. When we arrived the room was cold. In addition to the central heating there was an electric radiator in the room too. Even with this on full it took a long time to warm the room. But from talking to other guests some rooms were actually too warm. The hotel is in the midst of a major refurbishment and clearly some rooms now have really efficient double glazing. Our room still had an old sash window which was not draught proof.  I feel that onc3 all rooms have been done the cold problem will be solved. 

I’d happily stay in this hotel again. Maybe when refurbishment completed I will be able to give 5 out of 5.

The refurbishment didn’t spoil the trip and there was no sense of being on a building site.

Christmas Break

We were informed 2 days before we went about scaffolding being up and it may hinder our view. Totally blocked it and we had paid extra for a castle view. Hotel very tired looking but what spoiled it for most of the guests  on our coach tour was the fact it was freezing and the manager was totally unapproachable. Entertainment poor . Trips very short and not enough time to explore. 
Positives food was very good and plentiful . Staff were lovely doing there best and doubling up with tasks very hard working. 
This was our first coach trip with Alpha and if this is the usual standard will sadly be our last.

Disappointed turkey and tinsel.

We were shocked to find the hotel covered in scaffolding and green cover. First impressions inside also not good. Smell of damp and in general the hotel needs to be updated. Single room fine, had everything needed. Bed, pillows, duvet, towels, all good. Room was clean and the shower was easy to use and water was hot. No shampoo or conditioner and only one tiny soap. Only two teabags and probably four sachets of milk. No biscuits. Had to put ‘Clean room’ sign out if you wanted more, or clean towels. Reception staff always helpful and willing to hand over extra tea etc. Meals! The first meal we had, we only had a choice of three things, as most meals had to be ordered at breakfast time.  Meals were very strange combinations and always consisted of frozen veg, parsnips, burnt to a crisp, swede and carrots, broccoli on the last night. Potatoes on first night were not good, obviously reheated and, on one occasion, black inside. Breakfasts were always good though. Entertainment left a lot to be desired. Lady singer on two nights  sang like a typical ‘pub’ singer. Chap on Tuesday was very good, singing, dancing and lots of interaction with guests. Not fond of the man playing the keyboards on the last night. But we all made the most of it, many nights spent dancing. Everybody was super-friendly and helpful, which made a big difference. As a group we left a tip, which hopefully others will have done too. To be shared out amongst the staff. Ash, behind the bar. I looked out for you to give you a tip on the last night, but you’d gone home. Thank-you for always being polite and putting up with our teasing. 
It was a really nice touch for the hotel manager to board our coach to say thank-you for holidaying with them. 
 It - in spite of the plus points, we will not be returning. 

Lovely, helpful staff, strange food, ‘hit and miss’ entertainment.

The food was inedible. Room was buetifull clean. Shower 🚿 perfect. When we arrived scaffolding sorouded the hotel. I was not ammused. The hotel as gone down in my opinion the food was not up to par. Alfa coaches need to sort things out i will not go again sorry I'm not happy with the hotel. Please do not waist your MONEY ITS CRAP.
