Visited the hotel whilst touring in our Motorhome. The Clonyard has a few very well set out Motorhome pitches in a field near to the hotel. We ate in the restaurant and food was good. The penang curry and seafood starter were excellent. They welcome dogs too.
Staff were accommodating and friendly . Will be back .

Visited in out motorhome

The restaurant is nice but.... don't ask for pork roast. It wasn't roasted. If it was there would have been crackling on it. It was tough, out if a packet maybe.  The potatoes were not roasted either and we only had carrots and broccoli.  No choice and my husband and I don't like broccoli. No mash and defrosted Yorkshire puddings.
My sisters had scampi and beefburgers which looked OK.
The prices were too much for so little and we won't be back.

Grisly pork roast

The bedroom and bathroom were large as though it was a suite, the menu in the evening had a good selection, what we had was also good and at a reasonable cost, and was lovely, Would go back when in the area, another place that has character in a lovely setting

First time

Fantastic hidden gem of a hotel, rooms huge, staff superb and food is lovely , set in the countryside with great grounds and gardens , I arrived pretty late in the evening after playing golf, staff were on hand for me checking in with a warm welcome

Another cracking stay

We visited Clonyard for lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday. I had prebooked but we were the only people eating there at the time  - this was a shame because it’s a lovely venue tucked away between Kippford and Rockcliffe.

We started by sharing whitebait and tempura prawns as a starter between three of us, followed by the scallops and the hotel’s own take on thai green curry. Everything was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Dessert choice was raspberry and vanilla brûlée and Caribbean bananas with vanilla icecream. 

Prices were not excessive and we were full by the time we finished. Thoroughly recommend eating here - we will definitely be back.

Quiet venue with delicious food

Food was fantastic, atmosphere was calm and pleasant. Had an absolute blast with the locals and staff. Very friendly and up for a laugh, this was the highlight of my holiday. Good people, good food, what more can you ask for. 

Great Meal and accommodate motor homes too

The hotel was lovely, staff friendly  food good. Let down by room, no privacy. Room on ground-floor with large window and glass door, no screening from outside apart from heavy curtains, people walking by could see straight into room. Could do with blinds or voiles. Had extra taxes added onto bill at end of stay, unsure what for.

Couple visit to hotel

"I have been a lodger at the Clonyard for several years now and have always enjoyed the old, vintage character of the hotel. But, it saddens me to learn to the young, cheerful girl on the bar, Ashley, is no longer there. She was the life and soul of that hotel. It is no longer the same without her. Food is still good though".

Disappointed 

Been going to Dumfries and Galloway for over 10 years now and have never known about this little gem, had it recommended by another local pub which since Covid had to stop serving food and am glad he did recommend it, best food I have had locally, best price found and with the owners wife being Thai lots of the food has a Thai twist really bringing some nice flavours out, oh and the locals are really friendly. Definately recommend.

Little Gem

Mediocre food, dated decor, untrained waitress that we felt sad for. What more could we say? Overcooked risotto, evidently the last portion to be microwaved, steak- if that was 10oz it must have shrunk in cooking, and certainly not medium rare, and my requested salad became chips but it was evidently a waste of time to try to correct. The ‘soft tannins’ of our wine were rather too evident to be described as soft! The 2 stars are for my freshly cooked banana dessert. Profiteroles came with powdered hot chocolate drink as the sauce.
