Lovely food and service till 10.00pm when we were made to feel unwelcome. Called last orders at 1045 and refused coffee at this time.
This is the second time this has happened after spending decent money and charged 10% service charge on a bill for 6 with drinks and food.
Left in disgust to see staff enjoying a full pint!!!

Disappointed

Love staying at the Devonport as there is always a warm welcome and the rooms are very spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortable. It’s a great base for visiting family and a lovely place to wander down on a morning for breakfast. And we were treated to lots of snow too so a perfect picture postcard view from room.

Devonport Delight

Good meal as usual. However as a person who suffers with diabetes I have to be exceptionally careful with what I eat and drink. Ordered the sea bream with salad instead of potatoes only to realise that they had omitted the muscles, chorizo and spinach as well. When questioned about  it I was told that they thought I wanted it plain. Ok fair enough there was a misunderstanding so I payed £20 for a salad and sea bream minus muscles, chorizo and spinach. But the real insult was getting a standard coke instead of diet! I was absolutely clear on ordering the drink that I was diabetic and it is imperative that I get the correct drink. Just after the meal the alarm on my phone went of telling me that my blood sugar had exceeded 18mmol. I knew from this reading that I must have consumed something high in sugar. It was not long before we had establishedc that the bar staff had given my friend the diet coke and me full sugar coke. The young man who had served us was horrified and rightly so and apoligised profusely. However the other staff could not have cared less. "We've apoligised what else do you expect us to do!" Well not charge us for the drink for a start. Then the fact that I had to  race home to administer some rapid insulin to reduce the dangerous level of glucose in my blood! If that mistake had been a nut allergy it may have been a corpse not an extra dose of insulin. Simply not good enough!!! I will be contacting the food standards agency. Be aware if you have any special dietry needs.

Diabetic nightmare!

Questionable clientele and rude staff.

Staff here are direct and rude on entering.
The place has lost the village welcoming touch.
Customers focus seems lost and attracting a crowd that don’t fit, or maybe that’s what the staff and owners want?
Food average and like the drinks expensive.
Was a diamond place but for us the standards are dropping.

Rude staff and questionable clientele

We only live locally in Sadberge, but enjoy nothing better than returning to the Devonport. Such friendly and super efficient team!!
Food is simply excellent with a brilliant and diverse choice of classic and fusion dishes.
Bedrooms absolutely spotless and very comfortable, street facing rooms lovely overlooking down to the river.
Looking forward to our next visit or stay with you!

Catch up with good friends

Since the new owners took over in 2018 wow!!!! The hotel is beautifully restored with stunning guest rooms and amazingly beautiful bar and restaurant! We have stayed a couple of times now and the staff are so welcoming, the food is out of this world too! Our room was perfect! We used to live in the village and this was our local before the take over and we couldn’t be more impressed! Beautiful outdoor seating too. They now have self catering apartments within the hotel too which look lovely! Home made shortbread in the room along with ample tea, coffee, water. 
Cleanliness of rooms and communal areas is top class! 
The only suggestion I’d make is a dimmer bulb in bedside lights (very pretty to look at) and towels are not very white, maybe change linen provider to Elis UK their linen is top spec! 
Well done everyone for our little break away, £50 off dinner, when you book the mid week break, which includes a very hearty breakfast too!!

Amazing as always!

I’ve stayed at the Devonport many times and visited the pub on many occasions over the last 10 years. Never had an issue, but this was my worst experience ever in regards to staying in a hotel.
We could not access the building after 11pm. We were told to use the side fire door to get into the building. We were told “the lock is dodgie, you have to wiggle it a lot to unlock it” we obviously just said “okay” no one told us if we had issues to get in that there was a number to ring and we would be assisted. In a result of this the key snapped in the fire door lock, then resulting in us not being able to get into our room that night. Luckily my friend lives in the village and we slept, very uncomfortably on her sofa. We woke at 6am in the hope someone would be around to let us in. 7.30am we finally got into the pub and the way this was dealt with by the manager was disgusting! It was “our fault” “by law, EVERYONE knows there has to be a manager on site to let anyone in” she told us we wouldn’t be charged for the room at this stage as we did not use the room!
Of course we went to the room and had an hour or so sleep as we had 4 hour drive to return home that morning. When I went to check out she told me she had to charge me for the room! Because now “we have to get a locksmith out to the fire door”
Which may I point out, BY LAW a fire door should not be used as an access door out of hours. Never in a hotel. Nor should the “lock be dodgie”. A fire door should be alarmed at all times and only used in an emergency!
I had no problem paying for the room to be cleaned or the breakfast that we ate. But the fact that we didn’t sleep at all in the room overnight, through no fault of our own, I don’t think we should have paid for anything else! The manager was not considerate to the situation at all. Nor did she apologise! Her attitude was to make out “we SHOULD have know all this”, when we were not told. This is not the response you expect from a hotel manager.
It’s clear ALL the staff were aware that the fire door lock “was dodgie” (as 2 other members of staff told us before we left that night) but no one has done anything about it, that in itself is bad management & negligence, Which has now resulted in this situation, then me and my partner were blamed for It happening.
You may think “well, no one else has had a problem” but ignoring an issue like this will end with this problem!

Could not access building out of hours

This was our 3rd stay at the wonderful Devonport the rooms are always beautiful and very clean . We stayed on a Sunday which the hotel calls stress free Sunday it’s definitely Stress free at this hotel. Our Sunday lunch was really nice . Could not fault anything at all with our stay and we will definitely return very soon !

Wonderful date night

Great bar and location. Food lacks quality.
It’s hard to find any fault with the decor and staff in this place. It’s relaxing and a lovely place to be.
What it lacks is a great chef!
I’ve dined here often and whilst the food is not bad it’s no better than what’s around in neighbouring bars in fact in some cases a lot worse.
The menu is limited and poor in truth. The food presentation is good but the produce is poor and over priced.
Good for a drink with friends but until they sort the menu and food quality out I’d go get better in value etc elsewhere ….

Only live locally,but frequent the Devonport often in as we have never had a bad experience!
