The staff were generally excellent and my room was warm and clean, though a few pieces of confetti on the floor suggested that vacuuming could have been more thorough. However, the en suite left a lot to be desired with mildew around the bath and corroded handles on it. I also had to turn the temperature of the shower way down to avoid its being too hot. Some serious maintenance needed. Tip: thick bleach applied carefully with a brush and left for about ½ hour will remove most mildew.

A mixed bag.

A nice pub to visit with family.  The food was as you’d expect, with the fish and chips being very tasty with a nice light batter.  The chips were slightly on the overdone side. 

The service was efficient and friendly.

It looks like it was refurbed a few years ago but not much done since so the chairs etc are a bit grubby and it all looks like it could do with a deep clean.

Overall a cheap and cheerful place to head to for Saturday lunch.

A nice spot for lunch - cheap ish and cheerful

First time visiting as a half way point to meet family and watch the Tractor Run. Had a table for 6 booked 5 weeks in advance and 2 more family members decided to join us 2 weeks ago. Didn’t want to mess the place around at such a busy time so booked a separate table. Arrived to find the table of 2 had been cancelled earlier on that same day - this was done on the restaurant side as certainly wasn’t me. I asked if they could accommodate somehow as we had travelled for over an hour and had nowhere else to go. I felt the manager was a little abrupt and possibly thought the mishap was our fault. Told there was no room in the lovely restaurant for the table of 2 but the 8 of us could be moved out and sit in the bar. Was a bit cosy as was so busy and we had our newborn in her pram. We waited 1.5 hours for food to arrive but when it did it was good. Being Christmas we decided to let it be, they are working flat out - but would have appreciated a quick sorry for the hiccups and not made to feel like it was our fault especially when we could have kicked up a big fuss but didn't. Hey ho - Merry Christmas!

A couple of hiccups

Pros - The majority of the serving staff were excellent.  The Reception staff were very helpful.  The room was quiet and comfortable.

Cons - The shower gel was never filled up, the mirror had one light not working, the toilet was downstairs and it was so dark we had to leave the bathroom light on all night for fear of falling down the stairs.  A very young dark haired waitress was very rude and told me to "wait" at breakfast when our table asked for a tea/coffee top up and then proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the time she was there.

Could do better

Our annual get-together with our Yorkshire friends and once again everything was great.
We will keep coming back. Staff were really attentive. Food was good particularly breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and there were no errors with the bill for four rooms.

Another year and another five stars

Very nice hotel for our family stay for one night. Food for the evening meal and breakfast was very good.
The only downside for me was that room 22 has some hot water pipes under it and was stiflingly hot on entering the room. After 10 minutes of trying to get the air conditioner working I gave up. This was later raised with staff who knew about this and that the a/c was broken. I subsequently spoke to a seemingly more senior member of staff who suggested that she hadn't been made aware of the situation and would now look into sorting it out. Hopefully future visitors won't suffer the same fate. 

Nice stay but

The room was not good! The window frames are so rotten, notes asking you not to open them, presumably because of this. The stairway up to the room had a filthy carpet that hadn’t been hoovered for ages. The bathroom was so dated and all the silicone black with mildew. This hotel is definitely NOT fully refurbished!  The staff were incredibly unhelpful and ignorant. My friends room below ours had an awful smell. I was given someone else’s bill on departure that was of no relevance to me and when I rang and gave my feedback when I got home, someone was going to check everything out and get back to me - no phone call came. I would NOT recommend and will certainly not be staying again!

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and dined in the restaurant both evenings. Our room had seen better days and hadn’t been cleaned to a high standard - a previous guest’s earring was found on a chair and there was mould in the shower. A particularly odd feature of the room were power sockets located just below the ceilings, so not ideal for charging a mobile phone...

We had a very bad experience after our evening meal on the second night - both struck down with awful diarrhoea after eating the same dish. All night we were  running back and forth to the loo from about 9pm to 7am. This was reported to restaurant staff and hotel staff the next morning when we were checking out. We weren’t offered a refund of the meal but were advised the restaurant manager would call us when they started their shift. We haven’t received a call yet. The hotel staff said food poisoning was taken very seriously but tried to scare us off by saying we’d need to go to a GP and “poo in a pot” to verify the claim, and then said that if it really was food poisoning we wouldn’t be able to get out of bed. There are varying degrees of food poisoning and our meal had very clearly upset our stomachs. (Neither of us have allergies or food intolerances.)

All in all it was not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend this hotel or restaurant to anyone.

Bad experience - wouldn’t recommend

Our room was spacious with a very large bathroom - bigger than ours at home (complete with bidet!). Plenty of storage and hanging space. Bed - large & comfortable. 
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. 
The breakfasts were excellent. The usual cereals, fruit & Greek yoghurt to start with, followed by a choice of 10 hot options. Toast & pastries to finish. 
The evening menu was not extensive, but everything we had was very good. 
Beautiful village location, complete with village green and farmers' market on the fourth Saturday of the month. 

Absolutely recommend

We recently booked a short hotel break in Deddington Oxfordshire with Expedia who we hadn't used previously.
It was a very good price but, after unpacking we noted a sign telling us NOT to open the window as it was rotten and badly broken, not a good idea during a mini heatwave! Later that day we also realised the bathroom extractor fan didn't work, probably the cause of the black mould around the bath. The room was generally quite shabby.
I would point out that the pub, otherwise, was very nice with deliciously appetising food.

We reported our dissatisfaction to the duty manager straight away but as there was no suitable alternative accommodation he suggested we speak to the Manager the following morning.
With only one more night, we couldn't reach a suitable solution so the Manager, who was very genial, offered not to charge us for an evening meal.
Ending up with such poor holiday accommodation seemed more than bad luck with the Manager pointing out that our Expedia price was cheaper than if we had booked direct with the hotel, the implications being the reason why we had one of the  poorer rooms.
Our contract was with Expedia so we sent all the information to what was thought was Expedia UK customer service.
In nearly 60 years of holidaying in the UK, this must be the worst customer service we have even experienced.
First of all they didn't appear to understand my complaint and failed to accept any part in trying to reach a solution. I could go on in volumes about how unhelpful Expedia have been and will never book with them again.
