We spent there one night as it's near Stansted airport (we used before Travelodge in the same village) and our flight was early morning. The lady who welcomed us was very nice and the food was OK (we ordered only spicy chips as we ate not long ago). Unfortunately the room was very poor - there was no place where to put our bag (we kept them on the floor), no chair where to put clothes only a small round stool. The bed near the window was very bad, I was not able to sleep there at all. On the plus side there were tea/coffee facilities and couple of small juice boxes. We kept the window open as it was hot but as it's near the kitchen there was constant noise from kitchen appliances or fan. We had problem with flushing toilet and we wrote to the pub from the airport about it but never got reply. We will not use it again.

Not good experience

A warm welcome from the staff. They found us a table even though it was bingo night and very busy. We had the scampi and the gammon & both were delicious.  Generous portions and good value. Couldn't fault anything.Can't wait to go back on our next airport visit!

A great find!

My first every visit here I was cycling around town & then decided to come here just after the saracens I had a Colchester brewery sweeney Todd there then came to kicking dickey to have a yardbird pale ale as it is one I have not had before and is very new to me which I enjoyed very much I do suggest you come here if you want a drink as it's more a drinking pub than dining if you fancy dining go to the lion and lamb in Canfield or the hunters meet in hatfield heath or the three horseshoes in spellbrook even that three horseshoes are GKs partner company chef and brewer 

Amazing service from the bar lady today won't let you down great service 

Amazing service & enjoyed my ale after a long cycle on the flitch way 

Due to an early morning flight from Stanstead Airport, we wanted: Basic, good value, clean and safe accommodation that was very near to the Airport and the Kicking Dickey certainly ticked those boxes. We had a twin room, tea and Coffee and cold drinks were provided which was a nice touch. The person behind the bar whom we first met on arrival was very friendly and helpful and there was plenty of parking available. The room was basic, well maintained and overall clean. Although generally clean, the shower cubicle would benefit from a "deeper clean" to deal with those generally "hard to reach" but still visible areas that suffer with a build up of black mould (as all showers do) to help maintain the standard. Nevertheless we would certainly return again if faced with future early flights and recommend to others in similar situations.

An excellent solution for a very early flight from Stanstead.

I have been here a few times and once again the food was fantastic with great portion sizes very reasonable prices and a great selection of Beers.

The pub has just been renovated and feels fresh and has a great atmosphere.

Staff are really friendly and always eager to help.

Thank you to Nicky and her wonderful team they hosted family surprise birthday party Everything was ready on our arrival including lovely buffet nothing was to much trouble. Family had a a great time - added bonus their was a Live band playing that night and they were great.  Family staying in their accommodation said rooms were comfortable and clean.

Very accommodating great night

Easy to find in Dunmow and ample parking. There was a warm welcome when we arrived and our room was ready for us. We were led to the garden where the room was located (we stayed on a rainy autumn day and thought it may be a bit noisy on a summers evening when people are in the garden). The room was very clean, spacious with two good size single beds, television and tea/coffee making facilities (lots of tea and coffee provided and a nice touch was having two cartons of a cold drink there too). Linen was spotless and good quality, plenty of towels too. Bathroom good size, with complimentary toiletries provided. 
Pub was welcoming and there was a good menu of traditional pub food on offer. We stayed overnight for an early flight from Stansted airport the next morning, and it was a very good location for that. If we have an early flight again, we will certainly return.

Friendly welcome, lovely room and good location

I stayed here as I was working nearby and just needed a bed for the night. It really was just what I needed. Check in was very quick and was shown to my room. It was beautifully clean, fresh white bedding and everything you could need for a short stay. It was warm, quiet and comfortable. Exactly what I needed and I will definitely stay again if I need to. Thank you.

Perfect stay

Visited the Kicking Dickey for dinner on recommendation. It's a lovely looking, very clean pub, with a great menu, and the fish and chips were something else.
Sadly, we didn't feel very welcome when it was made apparent that we are a lesbian couple.  Our meals were near enough thrown Infront of us,  Hardly even got a thankyou when we paid the bill.
Such a shame. Excellent food in a lovely building. Sorry the service didn't meet our expectations.

Unfortunately, wouldn't go back.

Very mixed views.

We stayed for just one night prior to an early flight.  The location is good for the airport, the room was OK for one night although the bathroom could do with a spruce.  We ate in the pub, the meal was OK.  

We were glad that our stay was in winter, given the location of the rooms that sit within the garden - imagine it could get very noisy.  We arrived and there was a funeral function going on in the pub and lots of people milling about, a little uncomfortable really.  The hand gels were empty.  We didn't feel the welcome was warm, there was one member of the team that seemed quite friendly and the rest seemed glum.  Our room was clean and had good towels.  For the price paid, wasn't expecting much as a budget room price.  We stay in many budget rooms and our expectations are usually met.  This time, it was not.  We would not stay here again.
