I arrived to find my second room for a colleague had not been processed via their online system, I managed to secure a B&B close by so was happy to let this slide.  However I made the assumption that I would be able to meet my colleague at the Lamb in the morning and get a coffee and some toast, how wrong was I?  The lady serving breakfasts was the rudest most ignorant individual i have met in some time, when I complained about this behavior at reception I was told "well she is Scottish"......... unbelievable, my colleagues and I will not be returning to his hotel ever!!

My mother and I have just spent two nights at The Lamb and we really enjoyed our stay. It's so central so we could pop in and out during the day  and only a 10 minute or so walk to the train station.

The staff are all so lovely and make you feel very welcome. We had breakfast both mornings and ate there for one evening and the food was really good. There is a great choice for vegetarians which is something my mother normally struggles with in pubs.

We stayed in room 17 which was light and airy with huge ceilings and had a very large bathroom with a lovely deep bath. The beds were extremely comfortable and all the bedding and towels immaculately clean. We hadn't expected house keeping to come in for just a two nights stay so that was really nice to find fresh towels and made beds on our return on Saturday evening. I would suggest closing the window in the evening though as room 17 is on a main road so closing time can be a bit noisy on the weekend but it didn't take away from a great nights sleep. 

People have mentioned in previous reviews about the hotel looking a bit 'tired', this could be considered true however given the age of the hotel it shouldn't be expected to walk into something modern and new and added to the overall charm. 

We loved our stay at The Lamb and would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Ely.

Great Pub/Hotel to Stay in Ely

I had an enjoyable stay of several days at the Lamb Hotel. It is ideally situated in the centre of Ely and just a couple of minutes from the magnificent cathedral. The food was good and reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Yes, some of the decor looked a bit tired but I was happy with my own accommodation. Car parking might have been an issue for some but as I came by train my only problem was the walk to and from the station.

The fabric of the hotel is very old and tired - some parts look as though they are falling to bits. However, the beds are comfortable, the breakfasts were really good, the staff were helpful and the location, right next to the cathedral, was perfect. 

Lamb Hotel: 3 days in Ely

I arrived at about 1pm for a two night stay, I drove and my partner was arriving by train.
I put my car into a disabled space and had a chat with the receptionist who stated that this would be ok unless any disabled person wanted the space.
My view on the car park policy is that residents should be given first refusal on spaces  but apparently because spaces are limited this is not viable.
I would be of the view that because the spaces are limited this would be appropriate.
A few minutes later I saw a car leave so I moved my car to that space and returned to the hotel to advise them that I had moved my car, I then purchase a pint of lager and sat in the sun enjoying my drink.
I was very happy at 2.50pm when I spoke to the manager on reception and found out I could have my room but sadly I was advised I had moved my car to a space which was the managers space.
I also noticed that while I sat with my drink a number of cars parked in the yellow hashed area which I assumed was a no parking zone and had I known was ok I would have used .
I also witnessed people drive away over the weekend that I believe were not using the facilities.
Anyway my room was nice and big but a tiny bathroom and some areas need a little attention for example paintwork and tiled areas.
Also our smoke alarm went off a few times for no apparent reason.
I found the mattress very hard. 
Early the next morning I heard a car leave so I ran down and moved mine.
 I did not sleep well worrying about my car being in the managers space.

Breakfast 
I was told I must book a slot so I did but when we went at that time we were told no tables but we could sit in bar area, we got a little neglected in this area.
No menus and a long time to get served. Also a lot of items ran out, the fruit compote and juice not refilled.
Room was cleaned and tidied well.
On departure I placed my key on the desk as the manager was chatting to someone and therefore the manager did not even say thanks or goodbye. Just took the key and did something on the computer. Such a shame that we had such a rude exit.

Great hotel but let down in a few small ways.

My partner and I enjoyed a 2 night stay at this lovely hotel in a brilliant location; it's close to all the spectacular sights  Ely has to offer. The hotel offers excellent accommodation. There is a good selection of meals offered on the menu. The breakfast menu in particular was extensive and covered several choices. We were served by 2 very professional, polite, friendly and knowledgeable staff, Lesley & Emma. They both went the "extra mile" to start our day off well. Thank you to all the staff at The Lamb Hotel, but in particular Lesley & Emma. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Relaxing stay

It’s in a fantastic location, lovely and clean, beds comfortable, staff very pleasant ….. BUT 
the noise in the  rooms from staff and guests walking along the corridor outside the rooms is ridiculous. I was so certain thee was someone in our room I screamed for my husband to alert him to the danger.
It’s ironic really because there is no noise at all from outside and it’s in a very busy part of town.
I wouldn’t stay here again because of that

Excellent fish, chips & peas followed by sticky toffee pudding & custard (which was really tasty) and chocolate brownie with ice cream. Pot of tea for two. Comfy seating by a very warm radiator by the window overlooking Ely. Just what we wanted. Very much enjoyed. 

Good Pub Grub

We had not eaten at The Lamb Hotel for many months as the standard of food had gone right down . We decided to try it again last night... Staff were friendly and excellent service...However to have the" soup of the day "
served in  the smallest bowl ever was a shock . the size of the bowl was the size of a coffee cup! A coffee cup minus the handles! I have never ever been served a bowl of soup in such a small vessel! The last time I had a bowl of soup there at least it was served in a proper bowl . I mentioned about the size of the bowl to the staff and was told that was the usual size...ridiculous to say the least! A  small cup of soup is a more befitting description. The risotto served was excellent ....

EVENING VISIT

I chose this hotel for its central location, convenient for the cathedral and all amenities, and for the reasonable price. Our short stay was very disappointing.
Our room was a decent size, but basic and rather "tired", with old furniture. The addition of an armchair would be useful. The bed was rather soft and the pillows too hard and very uncomfortable - need replacing. The decor is outdated and drab. There was a continuous humming noise from the central heating, even when the radiator was off. The en-suite bathroom was barely functional: no heating, so towels didn't dry; no fan, so it felt damp; the shower (over the bath, with curtain) head is small and continually dripped; the temperature and flow control was stuck/ very stiff and I could not get hot water the first night, so ran a bath instead. 
Food: the lunch/dinner menu is basic (OK if you like burgers), limited and unimaginative; no real choice for vegetarians; not cheap; presentation & standard of fare mediocre; varied breakfast menu, but eggs overcooked (whatever form), veggie sausages too hard to cut or eat.
The whole venue is in need of a complete makeover.
