Superb B & B in a great location.  Excellent breakfast.  Made to feel welcome and definitely has that home from home feel with everything you need.  Will be booking again when next visiting Falmouth.  

Superb B & B

Down in Falmouth for a family wedding and had the good luck to stay here. Very comfortable good facilities especially their garden room. Breakfasts were also first great s definitely recommend it as a place to stay.

Great place

We arranged to stay here for two nights from the 10th to 12th September through Booking.com. Here is the review I wrote on their site:
"My wife and I stayed here during the course of an organized tour of the South West. Unfortunately my wife fell ill the day after we checked in and she had to stay in our room all that day, but she insisted I go on the tour. I asked staff if I could take my wife some bread or toast in the room. The staff was told by Elle to confirm that they did not allow any food in the rooms due to the smell. There was no offer to give my wife a snack, nothing. Luckily she had a can of Pringles to keep her going. I can understand having a rule. But could they not make an exception where someone is sick? You read glowing praise for hotels that went above and beyond to care for guests who came down with COVID during the pandemic. And consider other accommodations that provide room service. Where is the humanity at Gyllyngvase?"

Andrew replied to say that my "account of events is rather inaccurate. Firstly, Elle is currently not working and in fact, your request was dealt with by myself". When I made the request in the dining room, it was to a person who told me she also cleans the rooms. She said she had to  check with Elle, and came back with the reply that no food was allowed. When I stayed for breakfast, Elle came out and was chatting, both then and the next day, with other guests, including John, the driver/guide for our tour company. At no time did I see or hear of Andrew after our check-in, at which time he was indeed most welcoming and carried out luggage up for us.

Andrew: "Secondly, you made no request for bread/toast. Your wife ordered a full cooked breakfast and your request was for your wife to have her breakfast in the room, i.e. a full cooked breakfast .... We explained to you that this would not be possible and offered you an alternative which you declined". Yes, my wife did originally pre-book a full breakfast the night before, but she was not well enough for that the next day, so I asked for some bread/toast. That was refused and no "alternative" was ever offered.

Andrew graciously says that he hopes my wife "has recovered from her headache". Where he gets that from is a mystery. I told the meal/housekeeping staff person that my wife was feeling fluey. Why else would that person ask me, "She's not got COVID, has she?" 

I found the 1st May 2023 review on Booking.com by Kelly most interesting. According to her, she and her husband vacated their room early and were killing time in the garden room for an hour before their train. She said they were refused access to a toilet and were told, untruthfully, that there was no toilet. Kelly commented that "this was simply unkind". Apart from the fact that we are both retired couples from Canada, I find the parallel to our own case striking in terms of both unkindness and untruthfulness. 

Like that couple, I would have given Gyllyngvase House a much higher rating but for the incident concerned. Like them, "We would not return here now".

Unkind and untruthful

Chose room 8 on ground floor that had direct access to own patio area. Room was v large clean and well furnished.  Breakfast was preordered and very very tasty all local produce as soon as you sat down your starter was served followed shortly afterwards by your cooked breakfast served by a great lady that liked a bit of banter, she appeared to help run the place. Walking distance to town centre and lovely beach. Bus station 20 minute walk. Overall great 4 night’s stay.

Lovely stay

We stayed at the Gyllyngvase House. Just a short walk into town centre. 
On arrival we were made to feel very welcome.
Cannot fault it. The place was spotlessly clean. 
The bedding was superb.Toiletries The White Company.
Could not fault.the staff nothing was too much trouble for them.
The breakfast was one of the best we have had , cooked by Andrew Ellie husband.
There was a garden room which you could use to relax in with a book and coffee. The decor was lovely. We never used it as we were out and about.
Ellie the host was amazing person.
We would not hesitate to visit again.

Amazing place

Andrew and Elle really are first class hosts, the whole experience is high quality and personal. My partner and I stayed for four nights and we love it and will be back again. The rooms are well decorated and presented, the beds are comfy and toiletries provided are good quality. Breakfast comes with a nice choice from healthy granola to a full English and always served with a smile by Elle who is superb. It's really worth stressing how good the breakfast is, far higher quality than most B&B's at which we have stayed. 

Their new garden room, with sofas and an honesty bar, for those rainy afternoons, is a lovely touch as well. Parking wise there are a few spaces outside the property but they are allocated first come first served really but this is to be expecting in such a central location. It's a short stroll from the shopping centre of Falmouth and down to the beach - so ideal really for all the town has to offer. 

We recommend to all.

Really special

We booked this property for a weekend break in Falmouth. The property is advertised by booking.com as 4* Hotel with Parking. Its not a hotel but a basic guest house. Parking was advertised as "not reservable" 

We arrived at the hotel and parked in one of two available parking spaces, collected our key and went for dinner. About 45 minutes later I had a text from the property demanding that we moved our car onto the road outside. Since we were already drinking wine with dinner I replied and said I don't want to drive illegally now but will gladly move our vehicle first thing in the morning. 

As an aside there were numerous super-market trolly's dumped on the road outside, one of which was being used as a go cart by some local teenagers. Naturally, we did have some concerns about parking our 55K new car on the road. Even though the property was advertise as having parking, we agreed to move first thing in morning despite it being an empty space and there no signage saying we should not park in the space. 

After a few more exchanges of text messages I decided to call the owner and explain the fact we having dinner.  I asked - since he or his partner saw us park there in the fist place, why they didn't ask us to move before we left for dinner - he didn’t reply.  I also tried to explain we had both had a stressful day and drive down to Cornwall and just wanted to enjoy our dinner. The owner then responded with "you don't know what stress is, let me tell you what stress is" he then proceeded to rant about his personal circumstances of which had nothing to do with this situation. He subsequently then cancelled our booking and asked us to leave. We then had to find and pay for alternative accommodation. 

We are now trying to get our £330 which has essentially been stolen back from the credit card company. bookings.com have no interest in the customers that use their service and have completely ignored our side of story will only listen to what the property owners have to say.  Basically, they can say what they want.

Beware of booking.com they push all of the negative reviews to the bottom of the list so its easy to miss the recent reviews. Having read some of them, I would never have booked this property in the fist place. 

All of this needs more legislation and these illegal practises must stop. If a property owner cancels a reservation it should be mandatory that they refund the money they have taken.

Avoid this properety

Having just left Ghyllyinvase House after a few days with friends I can’t recommend it highly enough. The GH team are so welcoming and helpful- a true family team. The rooms are clean/ comfortable and spacious- the views are great and the breakfast is awesome - what more could anyone want - give it a try - you won’t be disappointed..

Lovely place, lovely people

Eight members of our family met for a three day break in Falmouth and stayed at The Gyllynvase Guest House having stayed there previously. The accommodation was faultless, as always. Elle and Andrew were amazing and we had a great time. Cannot recommend The Gyllynvase Guest House enough.  Would stay nowhere else in Falmouth due to its fabulous location.

Wonderful hospitality

Room 9 was lovely; super-king sized bed, sea view (just, through the trees and a few other buildings), generously sized and immaculately clean. The white and grey decor should have seemed sterile, but touches of blue, and a nice choice of comfortable furnishings, made it feel homely.

I can't rate the service highly enough - if there is anything that Andrew and Elle can do to make your stay more comfortable, they will. Breakfasts were delicious, our room came with a fridge, drinks and snacks, and the honesty bar in the lounge was a welcome extra.

The location is good - just a minute or two's walk to the beach, and ten minutes to the harbour for dinner.  We would absolutely go back if we're ever in the area again.
