We went for a meal for our grandson’s birthday. The food and service was excellent. The people working are very pleasant and cannot do enough for you. not a great range of real ale and not much atmosphere but it is a restaurant in a hotel. 

Food and service excellent 

The best thing about this hotel was walking out!  Checked in and then checkout, it was disgusting could bring myself to stay there.  Room was unclean, extremely dated, rabbit warren of corridors.  Staff were okay but other clientele were rather rough.  The whole hotel needs updating, cleaning and when you park around the back, the kitchen area is not acceptable.

DO NOT consider booking.... just awful

This hotel is amazing the staff are professional friendly and very helpful. It is great value for money and the food was really great. The room we had was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. 

Great hotel wonderful staff

The accommodation here was pretty basic. Our room was small, and the bathroom had a very cheap and plasticky feel to it. The water in the shower was a good pressure, but not as hot as I would have liked.

There was a shower gel dispenser in the shower, which was empty. I asked at reception if they could fill it up, and was told they'd try. They told me a bit later they couldn't find any more shower gel to fill it up with, which is not massively satisfactory.

On the plus side, the guy from reception turned up at our room later with a bottle of shower gel (the sort of thing you'd have at home). Not sure where it came from: lying down the back of the sofa perhaps? Or maybe someone nipped out to a local shop to buy it? Anyway, it was much appreciated that they kept trying and didn't let the initial lack of shower gel be their final answer.

Our dinner was a bit mixed. I had the burger, which was rather underwhelming. However, Mrs Maximus had the steak, and tells me it was very good. The decor in the restaurant is very dated.

The staff were lovely and helpful throughout, although in common with so many places these days, they didn't seem to have enough of them.

Basic accommodation, helpful staff

Staff are friendly enough, breakfast was ok. The building and rooms are absolutely awful. Old, very dated, creaky floors, very noisy, dark, paper thin walls, green mouldy pipes, rotting wood. Never ever again. The best thing about this hotel was leaving.

Very very dated building inside and out.. love the squeaky floors.. 😩 also appears a poorly maintained property with some long term residents.. music above our room was loud until 11 pm.. 
Food and staff in restaurant very nice. Pie was good. 
Dogs allowed.

Extremely dated

Was recommended to stay here while working away 6 miles away. Yes it’s not a hotel to take your wife or partner. I found the room to be clean and tidy like most places a lick of paint wouldn’t go a miss. I found all the staff approachable, very friendly and helpful, the food was very good and cannot complain about any of the portions sizes. Would definitely recommend to any workers looking for a cheap and cheerful place to stay.

Working away

The hotel is very comfortable and welcoming and very reasonably priced. The outstanding feature is the friendly and efficient staff from the owners down. They are attentive and welcoming and proactive. The food is outstanding excellent value and the breakfast outstanding. 

Excellent experience 

Popped in with A Groupon deal that we had purchased.
Was shown to our table by A young guy who seemed to be doing everything. The table was very wobbly, but we sorted it by turning it around.
Took our drinks orders and all seemed fine. A little later he was back for the food orders.
So we had 2 starters and 2 mains with the deal.
Chicken Kebab for starter which was ok, and the Pate and white bread that looked like it had come from some cheap supermarket, but tasted ok.
Then the mains arrived, bacon and cheeseburger which the top of the bun was very stale, and the battered cod and chips, the cod seriously must of come in A pack of 6 from Farmfoods and looked awful and to be honest, inedible!!
When the waiter asked if everything was OK and we told him, his response was oh do you want dessert!!
We said no and he wondered off, he then returned and said nothing to pay, so he did his best, but it didn't make up for having to stop for fish and chips on the way home.
When I used the gents loo, in the cubicle was A washbasin with A pink hand towel hanging up, not exactly hygienic!!!
We left and went to the car, one of the chefs came out of the back door, got oh his bike and lit A cigarette, he looked very unhygienic and I was quite surprised he was allowed to wear A uniform to and from work which he would be cooking meals in all day.
Some of the seats in the restaurant were dirty , the window seals and frames covered in dust and the whole place seems to feel very unhygienic. I would certainly recommend that you AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs!

We visited today as a family member kindly gifted us a voucher for Afternoon Tea for two with a glass of prosecco. The menu stated that it was a choice of sandwiches, a selection of cakes, and scones and cream. The sandwiches and scones were very nice, but only a single serving of jam and cream was provided for two people, so toppings were sparce. There was no butter but we didn't mind that. The scones were warm, but shop bought. The selection of cake was a small triangle of lidl rocky road, a very small piece of lidl caramel cake, a small half-square of lidl chocolate tray bake, and half a portion of lidl millionaire shortbread. We each had two finger sandwiches of cheese and chutney and brie and cranberry sandwiches. The serving staff were absolutely lovely, but the Afternoon Tea looked very cheaply sourced which let our visit down. Maybe garnish the serving stand a little, or source the cakes from a local bakery?
