Sadly the revamp of the dining area is completely wrong for a seaside location. Dark green walls, tatty old furniture perhaps suitable for a country pub. The old part is lovely, cosy and with fires burning. Food was tasty and well presented but sadly the ambiance was lacking, not sure we’ll be back

Disappointing

Warm welcome, friendly hosts, in a real English pub with cottage rooms at the back  on the shoreline in a beautifully appointed first floor room suite with a double windowed panorama of the sea. Our hosts could not have done more for us and we enjoyed a full cooked breakfast before moving on.

Comfortable and great value seafront stay in striking distance of Folkestone.

One reviewer recently said "the Ship has now got its captain back". I don't know if he was referring to Capt Bligh or Capt Edward Smith.
The beer certainly hasn't improved.
If it the standard lager & Guinness you want, well that's of a usual basic standard.
If it's real ale .... that's a toss-up on any particular day between, bad, indifferent, or just about drinkable.

The beer leaves a lot to be desired

One of the most comfortable and cleanest small hotels I've stayed in. Wendy and Stewart make you feel very  welcome and nothing is too much trouble.  
We had a beautiful seafront view from our bedroom window as well as armchairs and a large tv.
The bathroom was clean with just a shower, which suited us.
Stewart cooks a mean breakfast.  I had a delicious mushroom and cheese omelette and hubby had a full English. Add in the toast and cereal, youre set up for the day.

Room with a view

A very comfortable overnight stay before retuning home to France . Room was lovely with sea view , extremely comfortable bed good shower . Breakfast was superb, hosts friendly and helpful . Overall 10/10 . 

Great overnight stay , close to Channel Tunnel

Smiley, patient and handling volumes of people very thirsty and hungry on the hottest day of the year - they were so accommodating and food was excellent. Thank you - see you very soon x gorgeous view starting the holidays early on a Monday !!!

Incredible service from such friendly people

Found this B & B and what a gem of a place the sea view is unparalleled and would give any hotel a run for its money with the views. Wendy and Stuart fantastic hosts, the room was immaculate and breakfast was great too.So reasonable can not recommend this place enough, if you are looking for a B & B in the area call these people first you will not be disappointed. Great place to stay

Fantastic little find ,stayed for 1 night while visiting Folkestone The room was spotless the Linen excellent quality ,and the bar in the pub was lovely very welcoming and a lovely setting Highly recommend

Over night stay

Well I won't com ing back here you can understand when the independent pubs are dying out when the customer service is so poor from this place. Rude barman, peroni had a problem we change to another l ager. Snatched the money from our hand. Got no coins for change you have to just have the note.

Stayed for 3 nights and were delighted to find that Sandgate was the ideal position. Ten minutes from main town (if  that) it was a lovely town. Made very welcome after a drink in the bar and were shown to our room at the top of the property. Well, not only did we have a bedroom but a separate sitting room overlooking the sea. Chesterfield settee and perfect layout.
The owner Wendy was delightful. Nothing too much trouble and lots of interesting stories to tell. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Looking forward to a return visit soon. A great weekend. One tip for staying in this area. There are few restaurants so try to book a table when you decide if you like the look of anything.
