The building is behind the restaurant above a shop. The views across the Harbour are lovely. The room was fairly small but comfortable. There was noise during the dawn time of bins being emptied etc so wasn't a great nights sleep. There is tea & coffee making facilities but no milk jiggers, fresh milk is given from the restaurant but no fridge to put it in. Need to do the jiggers, there are a few decent brands around these days. Breakfast was not till 9.30am which is too late, should at least be 9am. Breakfast also was a bit of a dissapointment, ordered the full english but they had run out of tomatoes and mushrooms. Luckily we weren't vegetarians. We had dinner in the restaurant the night before which was very good. Our only gripe was the bread was so hard, it was all crust & very little actual bread. Almost inedible. 

Quirky

We needed a place to stay due to attending a Sunday night gig near to Folkestone Harbour. Quite a choice of places to stay all over the Folkestone area but this caught my eye as it was very close to the venue and was reasonably priced with breakfast included. Once booked, we did treat ourselves to a Sunday lunch at the Rocksalt restaurant, itself but there are plenty of alternative good eateries if you are staying here. The rooms are above a shop so some stairs to climb (no elevator). The room standard is very good with classic furniture and fittings well restored. Good size shower room. Bed although an classic style had a super comfy mattress and pillows, I had a great nights sleep. Flat panel TV, proper kettle and pod coffee machine with plenty of good quality supplies for a nights stay.  Great view across the harbour from the big window. I will defiantly stay here again.

Excellent Boutique Rooms

We were keen to explore alternative stop-overs near the tunnel. Rocksalt Rooms disappointed - noisy and poorly maintained. Low lights included: rocky, unstable metal bedframe, broken toilet seat, black tile mould in the shower and warm yoghurt and curdled milk in the breakfast hamper (a simple frozen block would have prevented). Unloved and unlovable. 

Noisy and poorly maintained

The room was too small, no sea view. Lacking basic facilities (no fridge, no wardrobe, no USB port, minute TV). Bathroom sink chipped and dirty. Wet room concept not for us.
Accessed via a dark alleyway in close proximity to a fish and chip shop. 
Parking was an issue for us.
After reporting to management the response was both arrogant and rude.
Avoid.

Disappointing

We stayed for 1 night whilst celebrating a special birthday dining at Rocksalt Restaurant.  It was a lovely addition to the restaurant and perfect for what we needed, the room was small (as expected) but clean, nicely decorated and stocked with all that you needed for the night.  Jess checked us in and was extremely friendly, we had fresh milk delivered to the room along with still/sparking water.  We were left a lovely little gift of a Bloody Mary and the most divine homemade fudge.  The shower room was more of a wet room however that did not bother us.  Perfect for a one night stay to enhance the experience of the restaurant.  

Lovely Addition.... 

I stayed in the family room with my wife and daughter. Car parking near by was very difficult even out of season. Street parking was limited to one hour and the car park nearby was full until the evening. Due to mobility issues the car park on the other side of the harbour was too far me to walk.
On arrival we found towels, cups and glass for two people only. Yet I had mentioned several times to staff when making the booking that there would be three adults staying. Hot tap in the bathroom didn’t work, basin very small, bathroom door needed easing and adjusting to shut easily and the toilet flush needed a bit of a tug to work. The bed light in the single bedroom was loose. There was nowhere to put clothes except for a few hooks on the back of a door. We ended up leaving bags in the hall so we could move round the bedrooms as space was so limited. There was nowhere to sit apart from two wooden stools. One of the stools was damaged and so we only had one stool we could use. That got too painful to sit on after a few minutes.
These rooms are only suitable to sleep in due to lack of space or comfortable facilities such as armchairs or a small table. Staff at the restaurant offered us milk several times to make tea or coffee. But it would have been more efficient to have a shared mini fridge in the hall for milk or water for drinks.
It continues to surprise me that getting a room ready for occupation does not involve checking taps are working, noticing that a lamp was hanging down on one side loose let alone providing the correct number of towels, cups etc.

Not a relaxing stay!

I was celebrating a milestone birthday with family and occupied all four rooms. I was in Valentine and it met the requirements of a room to sleep and change in while enjoying great food in the Rocksalt restaurant and Mark Sargents new Brasserie. 
The bed was comfortable and the room and shower room was adequate for a couple of nights stopover.
As mentioned in a number of other reviews the level of the shelf over the wash basin was TOO low.
Overall the accommodation was good and the restaurant (Rocksalt) was exceptional.

Decent accommodation for experiencing Rocksalt restaurant and the Folkestone are.

So as a last minute kid free night, we decided to stay at the Rocksalt Rooms. 
I cannot fault the distance and convenience to the harbour arm and other amenities. 
The room itself was lovely and the bed very comfortable.

However the price was excessive for what we received. 
No parking which meant another £24 on top of the already over priced room at £140 per night.
Granted the weather was very hot on the day we stayed, but the room was like a furnace, extremely uncomfortable and damn right miserable to try and sleep in. 
The windows only opened fractionally, due to health and safety.
The air con unit was completely inadequate and only served to irritate more with the noise. 
No mini fridge, which was ridiculous given the summer we have had.
No where to hang clothes. 
Bathroom flooded after shower.
Impossible to try and wash face when the mini shelf above the sink was right in the way. Struggled to fill the kettle. 

Breakfast, well really? 
Understood that a continental hamper would be left outside our room, as the restaurant was closed on a Monday. 
No problem we thought, but honestly we were appalled! 
Literally looked like a last minute grab of leftovers from the day before. 
1 orange
1 banana bar
4 x tiny pastries, we thought they were sausage rolls! 
Milk and juice which were warm in the morning.

Check in time of 4pm was too late
Check out time of 10am too early 

When we did check out, there was no one to help us give back the key, we had no idea where to leave it. After 2 phone calls we did leave the key, and gave our feedback to Helen, who said she would pass on comments. 
Not heard anything back as yet…. 

We had a nice time in Folkestone, but would not return here to stay.

Disappointed 😞

We booked Rocksalt Rooms for a wedding nearby and having been to the restaurant Rocksalt several times I had high hopes the quality would have been transferred. 

First off, in order to check in you need to go to the restaurant itself. They will then show you to the rooms, which are just across from the hotel. This means that there is no front desk and it isn’t 24hrs; this can cause issues if you want to check in late evening. You also can’t check in before 16:00 hours. The offsite staff were helpful and did try to help with a solution so credit to them. 

The property is access via a small alleyway between Backstreet and The Stade. The front of the property is a disused restaurant. This doesn’t make for the best welcome and looks a bit naff from outside. However, once you enter your room you are greeted with a quaint and well decorated room. The naked brick wall and the white shutters looking out on to the harbour are nice. The metal framed bed looks nice and fits the rooms decor well but practically it’s squeaky and uncomfortable when you want to sit up. 

The mattress was comfy and the sheets were nice. The pillows however resulted in a poor nights sleep. They’re small and the filling is too firm; one pillow was too high and one was too low. 

The bathroom is a wet room, large enough and is also nicely decorated, it had a skylight so well lit. The only criticisms would be that there is a shelf over the sink that actually goes halfway over the sink itself. You effectively have to put your hands under the shelf to turn the taps on and wash your hands. When you’re brushing your teeth you need to be careful not to spit the tooth paste on the shelf. The wet room idea is always good but not when the shower actually makes the rest of the bathroom floor wet. 

Unfortunately there was also a long black hair on one of the towels; I couldn’t blame the other half as hers is blonde.

Continuing on with cleanliness; one of the cups in the room was also dirty inside. The windows looking out to sea were dirty thanks to the seagulls. It looked old so would have expected it to be cleaned off between each guest. 
It is a shame as overall the rest of the room was clean and tidy. 

The room is a relatively well equipped; TV, coffee machine and kettle. However, one of the bedside lamps didn’t work and there is no fridge. Personally, this then effectively renders the coffee machine and kettle useless; unless you like black tea and coffee. There isn’t any wardrobes or drawers for clothes so you need to live out of your suitcase; for us that wasn’t an issue.
Plenty of cups, a complimentary bottle of water, vodka and fudge were welcome additions.

If you like to sleep in a blacked-out room the blinds don’t work all too well. A lot of light creeps through the shutters. This means it’s very bright in the morning. 
The room was very warm and there is no air-con. Although you can obviously open the doors and there was a fan already in the room. Luckily the night time temperature were only in the low teens. I’d imagine it would be unbearable on hot nights. 
I’m also not too sure on how good the sound proofing is; I was awoken in the middle of the night but a males voice. I’m not sure whether he was outside or in an adjacent room.

Breakfast is served across the road in the main restaurant and was a nice cooked breakfast. 

There is no parking at the restaurant. The closest car park you can only park for 10 hours on the Ringo app. The car park at the end of the harbour by the large hotel is around a 5 minute walk and costs around £14. It’s a very cobblely walk which isn’t fun for wheeled suitcases and ladies (or men, or anyone) in heels. 

Overall, the room was a nice place to be. If it’s just an overnight stop you probably won’t be disappointed. Think of it more like an Air BnB than a hotel. With a few changes it could gain some extra stars.

Having enjoyed a wonderful Summer meal in the bar area we returned to enjoy an evening meal combined with a stay in one of the offered overnight rooms.  The staff were super helpful and allowed us into the room an hour before the normal check in time. They also facilitated a table time that was more to our liking. For a restaurant that sets out to provide a fine dining experience (and priced accordingly!) the quality of the food was high however the choice of fish main course was very limited (Cod & Monkfish, the latter £36) and not in keeping with the website promise of a 'wealth of choice'. To be fair the starters and deserts were varied in choice and the chosen oysters fresh and tasty. 

As an aside, we stayed overnight and the accommodation was in a separate building just behind the main restaurant. The room was very nicely directed, if a little compact and we enjoyed an extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom however was not up to scratch; nicely appointed however somewhat small with a wet room shower that rendered the rest of the bathroom totally wet after use! The morning breakfast was top notch and beautifully cooked. 

Overall a good experience however a little fine tuning would equate to an experience that matched the price.
