Only one beer on hand pump but very nice and good value food. Good varied menu. Plenty of seating areas to choose from. Friendly staff. Only let down by the lack of real ale. Popped in for a Saturday lunch while visiting the area. A few places to choose from in Coleford.

Enjoyable Lunch

Had a super lunch on a very cold and wet day.  I had the liver bacon and onions with mash and lovely vegetables it was presented beautifully and delicious, also a large portion.  Good service and friendly atmosphere.  I would definitely visit again.

Fabulous lunch

Bed was lovely, we slept very well apart from fan in bathroom which was very loud. All the staff were friendly and so helpful, nothing too much trouble for anyone. Personally, i didn't like the pre order for breakfast, but breakfast was very good when we got it.

Good place to stay

I'd like to say the staff are fantastic always happy to help.
Didn't enjoy my first and only ever visit as I found the landlord a drunk rude and how he speaks to new customers and staff disrespectful and always got he's hands on the till not away to run a business

Dreadful

Reading the mixed reviews of the Angel from over the years we took the chance and were very pleasantly surprised. Not only is the hotel steeped in history, there are tales of hauntings and supernatural happenings, the room was lovely and warm, the welcome from everyone we met from cleaning staff to manager was really good, friendly and chatty - owners even spent time including us in their pool tournament. Food was very good but weee only serving breakfast, evening meals looked well priced with a good selection. Free parking is fairly close to the hotel but not owned or exclusive to it. We are looking forward to a return trip and was well worth the stay.

Supernatural stay?

This 15th century hotel/bar/restaurant is querky with its squeaky uneven floors and original features . We loved it. Very friendly, helpful staff. Amazing breakfast. Would highly recommend. Free parking just around the corner.

Weekend break

Do not book here. The atmosphere is atrocious the hospitality is even worse. How this hotel is still trading is beyond me. Rude ignorant and that's putting it lightly. A rather large Welsh man that frequents the place is extremely racist towards anyone that has a different accent or is of colour. I would not recommend at all

Traumatising

We were both very comfortable on our twin bedded room. It was warm enough, although the temperature outside was below freezing, the beds were very comfortable and although it overlooked the front square the room was very quiet with no noise whatsoever inside or outside the hotel ( until the buses started running in the mornings ).  The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water and the tea/coffee provided in our room most welcome. The hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was amazing and kept us going all day. We will definitely return to this hotel when in Coleford again. All in all a very homely, comfortable time. Thank you.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here in early Feb 2023

The recent reviews are very poor. I don't feel that it's so bad. I think for me personally it was the best option and I don't regret staying there because I didn't have a car and the bus stops are just outside. I think for anyone with a car there will surely be more choice but I think you pretty much get what you're paying for - I paid less than £200 for 3 nights including breakfast.
I should say that I stayed during the week, not at the weekend, and I couldn't hear the pub from my room. The pub wasn't really my kind of place, especially not in the evening, but you barely have to walk into it to get to the rooms and I wasn't disturbed by it at all.
I thought the staff were friendly but there is a bit of a weird vibe to the place. I don't personally mind all the shabby elements - I think it adds a bit of character in a way. But I was a bit freaked out by the giant hole in the ceiling of the built-in wardrobe. There appeared to be some kind of space behind it and my imagination went a bit wild, causing me to erect a kind of barricade in front of the door at night, which is of course absolutely ridiculous, but there you go.
There was a strong musty smell in the bedroom and the bathroom when I arrived but I either got used to it or it went away. It was pretty cold - although there was heating in the morning and in the evening, the radiator was only slightly warm. The shower didn't drain so I was just standing in water. There were used toiletries in the bathroom and the odd used tissue and crumb of food on the floor.
You have to order breakfast the night before and say what time you want it for so it's a bit inflexible. I have to say the quality really wasn't good either so I had less and less every morning. I've never seen tinned tomatoes in a cooked breakfast before and there should really be some fresh rather than tinned fruit I think.

Fairly cheap and convenient - not as bad as people are making it out to be I don't think

I visited the angel hotel last week for a nights stay with some friends and I am really disappointed with my experience. The hotel room itself was not clean and hygienic , there were stains on the bedding which shows that they are not meeting the expected hygiene standards to satisfy their customers. My friends and I were not able to sleep until around 12:30 because there was a huge amount of noise. There were lots of people downstairs in the restaurant/ bar area who were creating a lot of noise and were drunk who were beginning to start arguments. We addressed these issues to the manager and he was drunk himself who ignored us. 
I would not recommend the angel hotel. Please do not waste your time there.
