We stayed here at the end of October 2019 as my birthday treat, and it was awful from start to finish!  We ended up having a full refund, plus a refund for our bar bill!

should be named fawlty towers!

. It was cold, and this is only October,  dining room was very cold, we sat there for 2.5 hours waiting for a simple 3 course meal which was did taste good. Breakfast was very poor and again no heating. Out room looked very nice but radiator did not work neither did the heated towel rail, there was a small oil filled radiator provided but it was not powerful enough even after keeping it on all night. Their was no hot water,  apart from an hour or so in the morning. The electric shower did work but the water would not drain away from the bath. The main lounge had a good log fire going when we arrived but when we came down for dinner it was almost out, it was revived a bit but made no impression on heating the large lounge, it was very cold along with the bar area in the room of it. The staff were fine but they are trying to manage on a shoe string budget by the look of things.

Just spent two night at this hotel on a package. The hotel is in beautiful country side but is lacking in a lot of ways. In desperate need of renovation and some management control. The staff are lovely, mainly students but untrained. Rooms, well you need to enjoy climbing 41 stairs to our room and the rooms ok , ensuite well the shower works sometimes but not a lot. Wi-Fi poor, Food well that's something that should be looked at by the hotel, we had the same menu which was pretty poor, running out of Salmon after 4 serving and little else other than burgers. In the end we had Chicken burger which was appalling. Your questions did our room have a flat screen TV answer Yes but did not work.

Lovely country side but lacking

We arrived with no notice having had to vacate an already booked hotel nearby which proved to have paper-thin walls. The staff could not have been more accommodating, allowing us to check in early at no extra cost to catch up on a few of the ZZs lost the night before. Beautiful location, beautiful grounds and a lovely historic, rambling building with oodles of character and wood panelling. It used to be a Christian retreat (known as Lindors) It is run as a hotel (Dean Valley Manor) these days, but still has that other wordly calm ambiance, particularly in the extensive gardens with their pools and babbling brooks, which you are free to roam.
We now know where to stay on our twice yearly trips to Chepstow's famous progressive rock music festivals. 

A little hidden gem

Just got back from a 4 night stay at Dean Valley Manor Hotel. We arrived a day earlier than previously booked so stayed one night in a standard double room. It was a bit tired looking and could do with a lick of paint but it was clean. There was no real view from the window which had scaffolding on the outside but with no visible work being carried out so not too sure why it was there! The first evening we decided to eat at the hotel, the food was good (apart from my husbands steak was only luke warm) although he said it was cooked perfectly and tasted nice, this was probably just a timing issue. My husband also ordered a cheese board but without any stinky cheese, but they obviously just removed that cheese and didn't put any extra of the normal stuff, priced at £9.50 we felt this was a bit steep. However when we checked out we mentioned this to the receptionist and she slashed the price to £4 which was fair enough.
After our first night we were moving rooms to a superior bedroom, when we enquired what time we could move we were told that housekeeping would be made aware and they would make sure that our room was cleaned first so we could move in around 11am. We went out for the morning and when we returned around 1pm we were told that the room still wasn't ready, so we had tea and cake on the patio while we waited, the carrot cake was lovely. When we had finished and asked again at the reception if our room was ready we were told that we shouldn't really be in the room before 3pm!! Explained that we were not checking in but were already guests and we were then given the keys!
The superior room was again very clean, although again a little tired, but had a wonderful view of the garden. Breakfast was OK but not kept warm enough, over our 5 days there was only sausage available on the first day. The staff were very helpful and to be honest I think they must put up with a lot of people complaining but it's not their fault as they only work there! We didn't get time to use the pool but it was open. The grounds again need a little bit of tlc, but are nice to walk round. The patio area needs cleaning up and tidying every now and then. We asked a staff member when the renovation was due to be completed, but she said that they still haven't been given a date, it's a shame because it's a beautiful property in beautiful surroundings and could be a perfect place with a bit of extra effort. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return.

Bags of atmosphere,  friendly and helpful staff, views across lovely gardens, super room.  Have already recommended it to friends and family.  Oh and lovely breakfast.  No signal but who wants that when you can wander round the gardens and even go for a swim. Will bring cossie next time.  Claire

The gardens of the hotel are wonderful, and we were very lucky that our room overlooked these, though the actually hotel could do with some TLC. Rooms looked tired and some of the woodwork outside has seen better days.  The only disappointment we had was when we booked 3 weeks ago was told that the boiler had broken for the swimming pool but would be fixed by the time we arrived.  Unfortunately we were disappointed that this wasn't the case, especially with the lovely weather we did expect this to be in use.  Might be best to let people know that this facility wasn't still available.

Lovely Gardens and friendly staff

A beautiful house in lovely grounds in desperate need of a good clean and some TLC.  After travelling 250 miles and having checked in we found there was no hot water so had to go to dinner minus a shower not impressed.  The staff were friendly and helpful.  I ordered a Gin and Tonic with my meal it came ready mixed in a small glass I did not get a bottle of tonic so had no choice how much I wanted to add the small dash of tonic was £2 the gin £3 rip off.  If you want peace and quiet it has this with lovely gardens.  Looking on line the new owners are more with long term living so we feel nothing is being done to improve hotel as residential maybe what they will be doing next. I would not stay again and would not recommend.

Dean Valley Hotel previously Lindors

We had a very pleasant stay in this extremely good value old world hotel. with its unique atmosphere.    Our room was comfortable and it was lovely to go to sleep at night to the sounds of the waterfall.   Very pleasant and helpful front desk reception staff who went out of their way to assist us.   It was a cold June day and the temperatures not what they should be so they arranged for a heater in our room no problem at all.   The big draw card for this hotel which is in a perfect setting is the beautiful grounds which are great for a stroll before dinner.  There is also an indoor swimming pool on offer for the energetic.
Dinner was very good and tasty with plenty of choice.  The only complaint we had was no draught beer or lager which considering it is a fairly large hotel we thought should be available.  The dining room staff offered good service and were very accommodating and attentive.  Top marks to all the staff in this hotel they are a credit to the hotel.   We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this hotel if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time.

Delightful old manor house

It is located near the forest of Puzzlewood (Which deserves a walk), but I highly recommend that you organize yourself to spend some time in the beautiful garden, where children can run around while you sip a drink on the patio waiting to enjoy the great dinner (I recommend, do not skip the desserts!). It is also nice to have a swimming pool, with a small children's pool.
