I booked this place because it was not clear it was an hostel and the price was really high. Like some 3 star hotel with breakfast. You have to carry towels or expect to pay to rent them the price you can buy them. It was really no icy without nothing. WiFi was also not working and also data connection is not working in that area. So better to avoid it.

Horrible place

This is a bunkhouse with lots of twin rooms and shared shower rooms and kitchen /TV room. It would be fine if you are travelling around Scotland with a friend and are looking for somewhere better than a tent. I was put in there by a company while working in the area however, and it isn't ideal for working men. Most people there are on holiday so are wanting to party all night,this can be heard throughout the building, along with the hand driers in the bathrooms. The WiFi is impossible to connect to, and no towels are supplied.

Bring your own towel

Wooden Lodge is like Barracks:
Noisy clacking toilet doors and kitchen doors that sounds like gun is fired in the room next to it,  screeching wooden chairs all through the night. No towels. Scewed mattrasses and management avoids the knowledge responsibility and pretends it is part of the lodge deal not being a hotel. Inside rooms have no table , chair or cupboard (only a small bedlightbox).No heating. No isolation. 
No sleep because of night active guests that want to party through the night and act hostile if you try to convince them to make less noise. No supervision between 2200 and 800 hence PROFANITYpeople (motorists that camp in tents outside but use the common room to their liking)  have the place to themselves. No wifi but pretending there should be , but in fact in tripadvisor it reads it s not working since 2015. If trying to complain or suggest improvements (remove kitchen doors, insert dampening sealings, renew matrasses, instruct people on common guest courtesy rules) the cold answer is to "PROFANITY off to a hotel, because what do you expect from a Lodge "..
But still charged the main price of a HOTEL: 80 pounds for a family room which is more than 2x single couple room (2x 35 ukpnds).
This kennel is no good for people that try to seek a night's rest.
A total WASTE of time and money. Avoid this piece of ill managed bunker.
All these negative traits have been KNOWN to the management for years (read tripadvisor) but they CONSCIOUSLY NEGLECT to solve or improve them.
You better stay at the Premier Inn for almost the same money you get there SO MUCH MORE VALUE.
This place PROFANITYs. 
Further, the PROFANITY people (britons) drink beer, are loud and looks like have broken something, but they , in unison, blamed the complaining NON briton the next day and the socalled rough manager (who is not overseeing between 2200 and 800 hrs on his own CHOICE( believes them without doubt and harrasses and intimidates the non briton WITHOUT PROOF, without TECHNICAL INVESTIGATION , without ANY SHRED OF EVIDENCE.
Yet pushes them out WITH THEIR CHILDREN keeps the spent money for the other days and threatens to send a bill of something that wasn't shown, and can fantasize any extreme repair price AT WILL.
This management of this Lodge is CRIMINAL. 
AVOID !!!!

sickening, noise, cheap quality, high price, intimidations; AVOID

We stayed here for a night by chance after giving up trying to camp in a storm on Skye.  Packed up what was left of the tent in Skye and hit the road, ending up in Fort Augustus.  We were going to camp here but decided to enquire about the lodge.  They had a twin room left so we snaffled it up, think it cost £43 or something like that.  Room was clean with no fancy mod cons but we weren't expecting that, it's a bunkhouse after all so expectations were in check!  The communal shower was what you expected, plenty of hot water.  The living space and kitchen were spacious, one fridge was goosed though so space for our munchies were a bit tight in the last one standing.  Met some really interesting people and had some great conversations.  Read some reviews saying this place has gone downhill, we enjoyed our stay cause it was what we needed at that time.  Slight criticisms were that the wifi didn't work at all, next to no staff about, the bar and restaurant were closed with no explanation as to why.  That was about it.  If you turn up expecting more than basic provisions, and disappointed by this, then you haven't researched your stay enough.  This place does the job.

No Fuss, No Fanciness, No Thrills, but Ideal

We spent one night here whilst visiting the area. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, but it was very basic. No mirror, and no towels supplied. Then again, it's classed as a hostel. The bathroom seemed clean enough but the floor tiles in the shower were rather slippy, and nothing to grab hold of if you slipped! Nowhere to put shower gel etc whilst showering. Also, our room was directly opposite the male and female bathrooms so we could hear the door banging and the hand drier being used throughout the night. We didn't use the kitchen so can't comment on it. The bar/cafe is only open at weekends.

Have to mention that the gentleman who met us when we arrived was most helpful. We were too early to check in,  but he showed us where our room was (we would be out until very late that evening) and arranged for the key to be left for us.
