Well I should have been suspicious when Gina tried to convince me that spelt cereal is gluten free (a well known urbane myth) but I carried on exchanging emails with her. The Website promised “At breakfast time you can either make your way to the Aga-warmed country kitchen where a delicious locally sourced continental style breakfast is served with fresh breads, pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit salad, a selection of cold meats, salamis and cheeses from the West Country.” And the strap line on her website states “If you have a food allergy or a special dietary requirement, please let us know beforehand if possible.”
Well after 3 Emails asking her if she catered for special diets and coeliacs specifically she said she would get my husband some cereal and bread, the local coop does a good range and is a 5 minute walk from her doorstep. Well I am sure you can tell where I am going with this and it will come as no surprise to Gina that she has a 1 star review. Gina it appears does not believe in coeliac disease and every gluten free person she has ever had to stay eats the croissants. Even after my husband refused to eat her spelt cereal, offered as a gluten free alternative, and went back to our room to fetch the cereal and bread (yes she didn’t bother to get any bread either) that he had bought with him she was still in denial. She said she would get him something for tomorrow, we stayed 2 nights at the Little Merchant at a cost of £320.However the next morning she did not talk to us and avoided eye contact, no GF options, my husband went back to the room to bring his own breakfast, again. 
We don’t normally stop B&B and probably won’t again, we understand if people can’t cater for special dietary needs, but why put it on your website Gina? Why exchange Emails with people and promise to cater for them, I believe that this is breach of contract. Not even a small refund was offered.

Disbeliever in Coeliac disease

Loved this place. We had the room with the huge sleigh bed with separate kitchen, dining area, toilet and shower. We were overlooking the beautiful garden. The place was spotlessly clean and Gina made a wonderful breakfast. Slept so well. Lovely to cosy up in front of a real fire when the weather wasn’t too good. Great location it’s near a lovely bakery/ cafe in an old converted chapel and a short stroll to the unique shops and cafes. Recommend this place and we will return. If your looking for a quiet romantic little get away this is the place for you. 

Perfect 

Myself and my partner stopped off in this beautiful historic town as part of a short midweek break. We were delighted with our stylish and comfortable room and Gina was a warm and friendly hostess who spoiled us with a delicious and top quality breakfast which included locally sourced cheeses, cold meats, jams and preserves and a choice of fresh breads and home cooked pastries. More was offered and nothing was too much trouble. We left feeling like we would definitely return. Thanks Gina for your wonderful hospitality, we will highly recommend you.

Overnight stay

This is a really lovely b&b.  Great thought has gone into the rooms so there is everything that you might want during your stay from a biro to bottled water to bath robes.  There was a lovely view from our room out into the garden and over the pond.  Another feature I loved was the use of local produce, so we had beautiful toiletries from the Mendip Hills, local and excellent cheeses, as well as some ever reliable WI jam.  Breakfast was lovely with great coffee, not too sweet muesli from Glastonbury, a choice of breads as well as a selection of meats and the aforementioned cheeses. Gina was a great host with good recommendations for the local restaurants as well as how to make the best of Stourhead which was the purpose of our visit.  There was also good cover for our bicycles.  All in all a really enjoyable stay.

Delightful B&B

Tucked away but close to the centre with shops and restaurants is the merchant house with a large apartment with a period sitting room and a bedroom to match. The local produce breakfast was excellent.
