Terrible terrible food it’s disgusting  service was ok if you didn’t want any never ever would I go here again it was a shame was really hopefull  sorry to say the new chef needs to stop cooking  please do not waste your money in here maybe it was z off night but in this game that c  as n not happen

Disgusting food

Very friendly family pub delicious food excellent service very welcoming service.clean and quiet rooms upstairs we had best sleep at rooms.breakfast small selection but cook to order with quality ingredients and delicious.we will definitely go back

Pleasant gem

Just visited for a Sunday roast for a family get together. Chose this pub as we have come here over the last few years and a very positive experience the last time was Dec 2022.

Start with the positives waitress was very pleasant and took our order quickly and they were helpful.

Now the Bad!!! We ordered 2 x roast pork and 4 x roast beef, £15.95 and £16.95 prices 1 x duck Salad 2 x Cajun Chicken. Meals came out quickly the duck was nearly non existent and hard by all accounts and the pork dinners were pork medallions so not from a pork roast, the beef was absolutely diabolical, it had definitely not come from a joint. It had been put in the microwave!!!

Yorkshire pudding was OK, veg was carrots, cabbage and courgette which looked pre packed, again microwaved, Roast potatoes were OK not the best I have had again I suspect from a packet.

I told the pleasant waitress that this was probably my worst roast dinner in a pub and will not be returning. Refused to pay full price for the 4 x roast dinners, the manager wasn't even present and had to be called to approve the removal of 1 roast beef as compensation, considering there was beef left on all 4 plates!

You cannot charge prices like that for roast dinners when its out of a packet!

Alarm bells should have rung when we walked in as the place was 1/4 full at 1pm on a Sunday.

This pub has always used to be full and the food was great, maybe its changed hands.

Steer Clear we wont be returning......

Very disappointing!

Visited as a large family group, was really happy to see my favourite Nachos on the menu. What a disappointment, £14.50 for squirty bottle cheese, guacamole and unbelievable squirty bottle sour cream. So much for freshly prepared meals. It was a massive disappointment.

Disappointing meal

We booked the White Hart as we were going to a wedding locally.  We enjoyed our 2 night stay very much.  The staff were very professional and friendly.  We had dinner there the first night, which was enjoyed by us all.  I had the chicken, ham and leek pie and sweet potatoes…. Which was delicious.  The breakfasts were equally as good.  The rooms were adequate for what we required, a bit tired but we didn’t spend much time in them.  
We parked our car in the car park, and the hanging baskets were the first thing we saw, they are big and beautiful. The only thing that let it down were the weeds in the garden which were very noticeable. 
Overall a lovely and enjoyable stay, we would definitely return.

A lovely stay had by all

We were a party of 6 that stayed overnight for a wedding nearby.  Very accommodating at check in as we arrived early then came back really late - no problem at all.
Rooms are small but comfortable and well furnished. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were warm and quiet.
Breakfast the next day was excellent. One of the best I’ve had! Plenty of everything and no rush so we could all chat and catch up with other relatives staying there.

Lovely little hotel

I have visited the White Hart many times over the years and (as I keep returning) enjoy my visits. 

On this occasion I ordered a Wagyu burger and this was presented in short order - it looked very good. As I ate, the centre of the burger became a little pink until I bit the middle and it was raw, not even warm. An amount akin to two rounded teaspoons worth of meat was cold and raw. 

When I showed the waitress she apologised took my food and a new meal was offered and accepted. The replacement was cooked and delivered with another apology that this should not have occurred etc.  The new one was indeed cooked perfectly. 

However, my fellow diner completed her meal on her own as I now had none, then my new food was delivered. 

We were charged full price plus service charge. 

I think this should have been handled differently. We should both have been offered replacement meals and some changes to the bill should have followed. Furthermore, since I consumed raw food I think my details should have been taken and some follow up made. 

I didn’t complain further, I don’t think I should have to. 

Hopefully kitchen practices will prevent this ever reoccurring but if I go again, I will be sure to cut my burger in half before eating.

Poor food preparation on this occasion

As I prefer to write positive reviews on TripAdvisor I sent the following message to the restaurant. The management have had a week to acknowledge my email but haven’t done so. The following is a copy of what I wrote.

Rather than write a review on Tripadvisor, I am letting you know how disappointing our meal was on Sunday. Had we not been in company I would have said something at the time. The restaurant certainly wasn’t busy but the food and service were poor. Four of our table of six chose the Sunday roast. The meat was a bit over cooked but acceptable and the Yorkshire puddings were good. However, the vegetables were very poor and the large pieces of cabbage almost raw. There was barely 2 teaspoons of apple sauce which didn’t come automatically and was supposed to be shared, all very cheapskate.

The waitress didn’t know which desserts were made on the premises but she did go to find out. The crème brûlée was so solid you could have eaten it with a knife and fork. I understand the brownies weren’t great but the cheesecake was okay.

No one came to see if we were happy with the food or ask if we would like any more drinks. We normally have wine with our meal, but there was no one in sight so a lost opportunity. The staff need some training.

Could I recommend the restaurant to local friends? Sadly not.

A disappointing Sunday lunch

Booked for evening meal online. Lovely friendly welcome, we arrived early, but this seemed to be no problem. Food was excellent, can recommend the Cajun spiced salmon. The service was very good and the pub is lovely and spacious.

Excellent food

This is a large pub with a nice interior. We sat outside in the small beer garden which backs into a car park. 

The service here is 5-star. The waiter was really friendly and thoughtful without being intrusive. 

The food was very very good with large portions and service was pretty quick. 

The food was pretty good value for money (although expensive that’s more of a general thing and it is cheaper than many places I’ve been recently and offers ‘light bites’ like panini which are actually very filling and come with tortillas and slaw for about £10)

Be warned there are no vegan options though. 

Slight bugbear … 10% service charge is automatically added on … but in fairness it was well-earned.
