We stayed for one night at the Gairloch Highland Lodge, the lady (I think she was the owner) was so friendly and welcoming. Our room was large with a dual aspect over the hills and harbour 😃. Breakfast which we preordered was lovely and set us up for the day.

Friendly and Comfy stopover

We stayed for two nights with our 2 dogs. Our room had its own entrance, which was great especially with dogs. Room was clean and pretty spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Breakfast good too. Would return.

Best bed ever….

 We had a lovely stay in our sea view room: the bed was super comfortable and the view from our window was beautiful. I liked that the windows opened, we had a tea kettle, and the breakfast was plentiful. 
The location was good, walking distance to a beach and pub nearby and other amenities were a vigorous walk away in Gairloch. 

Wonderful weekend

We stayed for 3 nights in the room by reception. We were 2 adults and 2 children. The room was much bigger than expected having 2 separate bedrooms. The room was clean and quiet. WiFi was good. We had evening meal at the sister hotel and this was very nice. Staff were polite in both hotels. Breakfast was ordered the night before which was fine and it was tasty. Surrounding area is beautiful. We enjoyed our stay.

Nc500 family stay

I appreciate that they made the effort  to provide interesting granary gluten free bread and sourced vegetarian gluten free sausages for my breakfast.

Our room was comfortable and the ensuite spacious and functional. 

Due to the challenges of Covid times and lack of staff they had an honesty bar where you write down what you have consumed and pay at the end of of your stay. 

The evening meal at the sister pub ,the Old Inn, was delicious and delightfully presented.

Obliging for special diet

The hotel is conveniently situated near the NC500 route.   The staff were friendly, and check-in was easy as was check out the next morning.  The location was up a small hill within an easy walk to have dinner at The Old Inn and walk around harbor.  Reservations are a must this time of year for the evening meal, and the hotel notified us in advance with that recommendation.   The location was very quiet and peaceful.   The lodge seems a bit older with dated decor, older looking bedding, and a too firm mattress, which doesn't suit me as a side sleeper.  Breakfast was a serve yourself and a bit chaotic in the small space with multiple items needing to get refilled simultaneously, and by the nature of that style of service the hot food was only warm, though the staff was trying hard to keep the breakfast bar stocked.  

Convenient location for NC500 drive

This hotel sits high up from the road through Charlestown, being a 5 minute walk from their sister hotel and the harbour and about 35 minutes walk into Strath Bay where there more facilities, more accommodation and the excellent Myrtle Bank Hotel.  
We had booked a room with a loch view and although the loch was not immediately in front of us the view was a very pleasant one. The room itself was rather tired with mismatched bedding, curtains,  carpet, furniture and rather dull brown towels which did not look fresh. While not dirty, other than the bathroom door which could have done with a wipe, its overall look was a bit grubby. However, the bed was comfy, the heated towel rail was efficient and the shower worked well and was easy to use.
The breakfast room is light and airy and the breakfast was good - a mixture of self service and hot food cooked to order. 
As the GHL does not serve dinner, we had booked 3 evening meals at the sister hotel, The Flowerdale Inn, near the harbour. In the event, we only ate there the first night as the service and menu choice were both awful (See my separate review). 
On a very positive note, the staff at the GHL were all very friendly and helpful and the laundry service was quick and excellent value. 
As in many places staffing appeared to be a difficulty and we got the impression that they were a little relieved when we asked for our room not to be serviced. That said, they were anxious that we had what we needed,
Overall the hotel is in need of some tlc - a lick of paint, updated furnishing and not least the replacement of the 'C' from the outside Reception sign, as this does not give a great initial impression. 
Were it possible I would have given 3.5*  as the staff were lovely.

In need of some TLC

We stayed here, like many others, as a stop on the “NC500” tour. Initial thoughts - hotel is very dated and could use a bit of care and repair to bring it to a more modern standard. This aside, I got a good nights sleep - twin room was clean and comfortable. 
We had the foresight to book dinner at the sister hotel which was just as well as there were very heavy handed signs around about a fine for bringing contraband food into the hotel which I thought was very unnecessary, being as there is not a lot of food on offer in the village. 
The food at the sister hotel was fabulous, out of the 14 restaurants we dined at on our trip this was the best rated by our party. I recommend booking there in advance to avoid hungry bellies.   
Breakfast was a bit disappointing as a number of us ordered porridge as a “starter” before the cooked breakfast which did not arrive. Staff seemed harassed so we didn’t like to mither them about it.
Four members of our group were on motorbikes and on arrival we would have liked to have a sit down with hot drinks as we were caught in inclement weather and cold and wet - the hotel reception chap explained there no hot drinks at the honesty bar (even though there was a Nespresso machine and we would have paid), and rooms were not ready at the time. In the end a canister of hot water was brought out and left for us to fend for ourselves. Not ideal but better than nothing. 
WiFi incredibly patchy and slow especially with many people trying to access it. 
Overall, I feel with more staff and a few touch ups this could be a really lovely place and therefore worth the money paid for the room. Very much felt like a “self service” set up which isn’t really acceptable considering the price paid.

Not the worse place on the NC500…

We stayed here two days ago as part of a cycling tour. The hotel is very comfortable and COVID rules are followed diligently. They are however understaffed for large groups. Our breakfast was nice and no complaints whatsoever. We got dinner from a nearby campsite which was amazing and had it at the harbour.

Comfortable but understaffed

The food was very nice if you eat the toast and Nutella. The reception guy was very very defensive about asking if the room was noisy. Yes it is. Bang goes the front door, bang. Everyone's conversation on entry noisy. The bed was comfy if you have a bunk bed  otherwise the smallest double bed in the world.

Only come here if everywhere else is full. And you'll pay too much for unwelcoming, dirty, tired, and weird surrounds. Breakfast is not good. Random pre order system that doesn't yield anything, it's a buffet of all the stuff anyway with no table service!

Avoid unless you have nowhere else left to book
