Third stay visiting family.  Very clean, comfortable rooms at very reasonable price.  Staff friendly and helpful. Teenager loved shower! Very dog friendly with fenced off individual patio outside bedroom. Delicious breakfast.  Thank you.

Great stay

We had a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. We had requested a ground floor room, if possible, no problem!  We were allocated room 8, a marvellous, large room, on the ground floor.
The bed is huge and very comfortable.  We slept very well after a long trip to the hotel.
The room had everything you would expect to have in a super hotel room. A warm room, well lit, T.V, plenty of hot-water, bed very comfortable and excellent food served in the restaurant.
If you book online you can get a great deal 20% off you food bill!

Superb stop-over!!

I visited the Royal George on a work trip, the pub itself is situated in the little village of Birdlip so it’s fairly quiet in the area. The staff are welcoming and friendly and answer your questions with as much information as they can. The place itself on the exterior depicts the typical English village pub which I thought coincided with the area well. This is where it gets abit of a downer… so firstly the rooms, they are WELL over due an upgrade, very dated, tiny TV’s, very old furniture, now I’m well aware the pub is an old building but that doesn’t mean the rooms have to also be stuck in the 1980’s. The lack of plug sockets near the bed is annoying if you want to have your phone charging next to you. The TV is just a very basic free view tv so if your wanting to Netflix and chill… you can’t. The general cleanliness of the room just wasn’t up to a standard I would expect from a popular hotel, grateful the maid came in to empty the bin but that’s pretty much all they did, there’s thick dust build up on the furniture in the room, the bathrooms need a serious revamp the amount of rust around the bath/taps/sink/ plug pretty much everywhere you look in the bathroom there is rust even on the mirror😳. The rooms are just begging for a 2024 revamp, the curtains are probably older than me, they need to go! 

What probably pushed it for me was the amount of noise pollution there is throughout the night! Doors slamming, people marching up and down corridors, I could literally hear every single word of a conversation some people were having below me its just not great when your on a business trip and you’ve got to be up and out the next morning. The doors are the worst thing, typical old style yale locks on the doors so you’ve got to give them a pull or else they won’t shut which vibrates around the full hotel, they need immediately changing! I have two small kids at home and I’ve probably slept less here than I have at home…

I haven’t been down and tried the food admittedly  purely because I’m on a restricted diet and the restaurant is the typical chain gastro pub so there’s nothing below 500 calories for me to eat even the salads are astronomical in calories. I would have loved to have eaten downstairs instead of living off supermarket salads whilst I’m here, it would be nice for the restaurant to cater lower calorie options instead of having most things fried! Just my personal opinion I’m sure other people love the food I would have just liked to have seen more variety. This goes for the breakfast too, I have breakfast included in my room stay but unless I just eat a piece of fruit, the food option on a morning is just ladened with calories so yeah that’s been wasted. 

I’m also staying here with other colleagues from my work and I was told by another colleague they’ve got damp and mould in their room which needs immediate attention! People be getting poorly! 

The WiFi is terrible, when your in your rooms the wifi doesn’t reach and with only 3G it’s really hard to get onto the internet to complete work! Considering this hotel gets a lot of bookings made through companies for their employees I would have expected atleast the wifi to work! 

Personally I wouldn’t stay here again for leisure, it definitely has a target audience and sadly I don’t fit into that category. Give the place a well needed revamp!

This place is begging for a revamp! Get out of the 80’s!

Visited the Royal George for dinner and received excellent customer service from Jas which these days our very hard to find in restaurants.

Check back throughout our meal and quick and efficient bar service from Jas who is an asset to Green King keep up the great work

Excellent Customer Service

Revisited on a Friday evening. Greeted by a friendly member of bar staff, Jasmine, who was very attentive and quickly served our order which she remembered from a previous visit. She was very cheerful and happy to stop for a quick chat.

The pub wasn’t too busy and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

I didn’t eat however the food looked very appetising.

Will definitely return before too long.

Nice Country Pub Hotel

Initially see the hotel I was disappointed, it looks very shabby (Sept 2023) but they do have scaffolding up hopefully it will be looking lovely soon.

Inside is tired too, really needs some TLC.

However the staff were doing an excellent job and my room was nice and clean but suffered from only having one plug socket.

Breakfast was very good.

Don’t be put off and support them with a say.

Fantastic food and staff 

We went for a meal for a family birthday but sadly we’re disappointed. We had booked the restaurant which is jaded and in need of a make-over. The service was indifferent and the the food of poor quality. No table checks were made even though the restaurant was not full. One of the guests ordered lasagne which was burnt and unappetising. The chips had clearly been reheated and were unpleasant and the sausage and mash was drowned in gloopy gravy. 
Conversation in the bar area was almost impossible because of the ‘entertainment’ 
The Royal George used to be one of our favourite ‘locals’ for a relaxing drink and lunch but this latest experience has put us off visiting again.

A disappointing visit

Very welcoming even before we arrived with a lovely call from Elaine on reception as I had asked if they had a room with a walk in shower.  Bar staff friendly great turn on Saturday night.  Fabulous breakfast.  A fabulous weekend all in all.  Only downside was this is a cheaper hotel than most but quite a few of their clientelle thought they were in the ritz without paying ritz money and were quite rude with the staff there.  They deserved respect with how they dealt with some jumped up customers.

Terrible service from surely teenagers, and greyly terrible food. Risotto seriously undercooked; steak over cooked and staining on the beer glasses. Please don’t waste your hard earned cash eating here.
