After looking forward to our meal, it unfortunately turned out to be a very disappointing visit. The only positive was the lovely interior and building. 

The food majorly cut corners and had items missing in the dish that were stated in the menu making it very poor. The mains were also extremely simple with limited ingredients and flavour. Complete stretch to call a bowl of spinach leaves and a sprinkle of cheese a salad especially considering the price. 

The service was bad, no one checked on us, and when we said the food was only okay, they didn’t probe further. We were planning on getting pudding but ended paying the bill and leaving. Will not be returning!

Good stuff first; achingly beautiful building set in a delightful village. But... the serving team were irritatingly glum. I don't mind grumpy. In fact I've often enjoyed an eccentric Basil Fawlty-style misanthropy. But the bar staff we encountered just behaved as though they didn't want to be there and, moreover, didn't want us there either. Oh, and the prices are psychotic. £13.50 for a brandy coffee and a pint of ale. 

Nice pub, shame about the people running it

Has to be one of the best pubs in southern England. Stayed overnight and ate there. When we arrived it was humming and looked like an airport departure lounge but in a good way with families and children everywhere. Wondered if we would be  attended too but taken straight to our table and well looked after despite the crowds. Food was also excellent with duck breast and leg done beautifully. Can recommend the minted pea and ham soup too. Having breakfast in the now silent pub was a great experience with well cooked poached egg with no taste of vinegar made my day. Fantastic medieval room with 4 poster bed. Will aim for kings room next time

Good but not great! Shows potential! 

For a five star AA rating as an Inn - The Crown Inn could do with some fine tuning in regards to attention to detail at this level. 

Aesthetically as an establishment the property is beautiful - steeped in history. 

The lounge, bar and restaurant are truly beautiful. Bar staff, friendly enough. 

If staying overnight, there is no clear signage of where check in is located. 

When booking the stay, the details stated parking onsite at the property however all the bays directly in the Crowns parking remit were taken. Again it may be worth looking at reserved signage for overnight guest parking. 

We were based in the bedroom named Coombe - the spelling of the bedroom name is incorrect to that on the bedroom door key.

With the bedroom described as contemporary luxury, sadly it was rather lackluster. The bathroom requires attention in aspects of maintenance and deep cleaning (shower head and shower unit). 

Limited mention throughout the Inn and bedroom in relation to sustainability, one note in the bedroom on towel usage. 

Breakfast was good, however there was only one member of staff managing four breakfast tables and hunting party. 

The quality of breakfast itself was very good. 

However I would recommend setting up a juice station and or continental breakfast station. 

Don't get me wrong this is a lovely establishment but with an AA five star Inn rating, we did expect more. 

Good but not WOW 

We were staying around the corner, where the menu was limited and having eaten there the night before we decided to look at the menu at the Crown. With a range of meals to suit all we made a decision to reserve a table, and a dog friendly place as well, we felt at home! A good range of ales for the beer drinker, and a fine wine list, all were accommodated from the drinking aspect. The staff were lovely and very attentive,and the food was stunning! For the quality of food the prices were great. The only thing I would mention is the 14% discretionary surcharge is a bit excessive, as we would most definitely have left a tip, but that is for the customer to decide. This is not worth lowering a well deserved 5/5, though. We left our discretionary 10%. We will definitely return here.

A beautiful establishment with an amazing ambience, and great food!

Beautiful and character rich inn with no compromise on comfort. We stayed in the Elizabeth Room which was lovely.  Great shower - somehow they installed a modern bathroom keeping in style. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was delicious. All staff courteous and helpful.

Warm, Friendly, Historic Inn

This is a very old and interesting inn, however the food, although tasty, was overpriced and the “optional” service charge automatically added to the bill is presumptuous.  It would be very embarrassing to ask for it to be taken off in front of other closely seated guests and I felt it was imposing. 

My meal was roasted stuffed aubergine (didn’t see any stuffing in/on it), spiced basmati rice with cranberry, coriander, pumpkin seeds and coconut broth,   £17.50.  Sounds delicious, and it was, but consisted of  about a quarter of an aubergine with a small cup of rice, similar to a 99p packet from a supermarket.  The portion was fine for me as a light lunch but certainly overpriced, as others have pointed out.

5 of us met up for breakfast this morning - The Crown was beautifully decorated ready for Christmas. We had a table by the open fire, fabulous Full English , delicious coffee and wonderful service from Louise. Thankyou so much - we will be back! 🎅🥳🎅

Wonderful!

Quick pre Christmas break to shop in Midhurst. Inn very well run - there was a private function while we stayed but we were given notice of this in plenty of time. Despite being very busy that night the Staff attended the resident's in the lower bar with no problems. The menus are short but varied with all tastes catered for. The food itself is a little on the dear side but is of a good enough quality to justify this. Staff in general have the knack of appearing just after you have thought of asking for something - all were pleasant and well presented.
Our room was OK. We are used to staying at older properties and familiar with the problems of combining modern amenities with listed properties. The room had a few niggles but nothing that upset our stay. Bed super comfy and located in a quiet position.
Overall would recommend

The Staff are excellent

Fantastic hotel.  Lovely room (stayed in the Tudor Suite).  Spacious and clean.  Friendly and helpful staff.  Bed was very comfortable.  The breakfast was excellent and included in the price.  Would definitely recommend and stay again.
