I booked a party in the Trinity Suite function room for my special birthday.  The room is a lovely size.  The staff were amazing.  They went out of their way to accommodate and to make my special birthday a huge success.   The DJ was great too.  The price was very reasonable.  One small criticism they could do with somewhere to hang coats but highly recommend this venue.  Well done to the staff 👏

Stayed here for one night with family, and have to say it was a comfy night, the hotel is in the town and close to everything. Tom was very polite and welcoming and even showed us to our room, which is something that I've  never experienced before.
It is very reasonably priced 
The rooms were ok, they were clean and comfy beds but the room could do with a bit of a refresh.

Other than that I had no issues at all.

I would stay again 😊

A comfy stay 

Absolutely disgusting, filthy dirty, dusty dirty pillows & beds.
Very  bad smell, I wouldn't even leave my cat there. Very rude owner told us to leave as we complained about the room. We was staying there the night before my Daughters wedding & had to find another venue last minute. Will NOT or never stay there.

DO NOT STAY THERE

The room was so awful, dusty, dirty floors just couldn't stay there, seriously needed updating, no one seems to care about it unfortunately. Will stick to well known hotel chains in future, with staff that are welcoming.

We booked to stay at the Dorrington (two adults two children) as we were attending a wedding in nearby castle heddingham we didn’t need anything to fancy and just booked a family room for a bargain of £75.
However upon arrival the friendly manager text me to let me know we had been upgraded to the cottage (just two mins down the road) so unsure if it always comes under the Dorrington and can’t speak for the other rooms. But it was a lovely, clean, fully equipped new inside, gorgeous cottage. With two bedrooms, a kitchen and lounge. I could have easily stayed here all week! Would definitely visit there again. And definitely recommend if your staying for a wedding nearby.

Lovely clean accommodation.

I booked a family 'Room' for 2 adults and 3 children in July 23, as we were visiting to attend a wedding at the castle nearby. I paid £250 for us all for 2 nights. We were expecting a room with 2 single beds a double and a sofa bed. Which I did think the price was a bit steep, however I booked it as my step daughter and I needed to be close to the castle due to being bridesmaids.

However upon arrival, I paid the balance and was greeted by 2 lovely ladies, at midnight, who provided us with our key and very clear instructions on where we could park and where our accommodation was. It was not even a 2 min walk to the side of the pub, it was called The Savoy and we stayed in room 1. Though when letting ourselves in, we only then realised we had a whole apartment, with 2 rooms, 3 single beds and 2 double beds in total, one bathroom with a bath, shower and toilet and a on suite coming off of the master bedroom, a lovely living room, dining table and kitchen area, which had a fridge freezer, dishwasher, kettle and condiments... if I had knows it was more than a room with a kitchen, I would have taken my own cereal amd milk etc, but there is a little shop right next door if needed. 

There is no cutlery, tea towels or bowls etc, so if you have this apartment be sure to take them if needed. 

Only think I would advise to make the apartment stay better, is to add WiFi, though this wasn't a massive problem as we were only staying for 2 nights and wasn't in there much due to the wedding.

Pleasantly Surprised

On arriving at The Dorrington in Halstead , we booked into room , found out where to park car, and was then shown to our room, was told it’s one of the better rooms,  by bar person. £60 for two for one night.  On first look it look ok , but when I took a closer look at the bed covers there were signs that it had dent been changed from previous persons stay. So my husband went looking for bar person and said the bed sheets had not been changed, he did offer to come and change them , but my husband said we would do it so he was given clean sheets and with that offered us a free drink ( which we had ) The rubbish was still in the bin, coffee cups in different rooms, ie bathroom and one in main room/bedroom, and no clean towels either,,,, not a good start to our stay. 
Other than that you expect a bit of noice when the bar closes at 2 am …. 

Had to be said .

My daughter/sil and grandson just stayed here and it was “ok” but one or 2 issues which could have been better.
Friendly staff in the bar for check in but be aware “The Cottage” is not behind the bar premises where the rooms are but, behind the old police station in Halstead which is now converted into private homes. On approach to the cottage (which looks lovely and true to photos) we were warned by a female - I assume lives in the private properties, that the garden was “private property” and we were not allowed on it in quite an unfriendly manner! So not a great start to their 3 day stay. 
At first glance, the inside is lovely with modern furniture and quite spacious, Modern kitchen with an extra little toilet/washroom off the kitchen area which was very handy. Upstairs is the main bedroom with double bed/rail to hang your clothes up and a generous size set of drawers and 2 white fluffy towels on the bed. Really nice modern bathroom next to it with shower/modern loo & basin and heated wall mounted towel rail. And, finally a twin room with white metal framed beds with clean linen/towels. Both bedrooms have skylights for windows.
Overall a lovely little place to stay for a few days BUT!!! There is No WiFi in the property (big problem for a 10 year old), lovely French doors in living room which are locked - you’re not allowed in the garden as it belongs to the private homes, so that was a shame (especially as my family had brought their well behaved dog with them). Lack of crockery/cutlery to use - lots of utensils but no can opener, only 1 mug and 3 mismatched glasses.
And, finally, it rained quite heavily one day and the walls in the main bedroom got quite damp around the edges so I think a bit of maintenance is needed.
A bonus is that you do get your own parking space out front 😊
I think it would benefit from having a fence of some kind to divide the cottage from the private homes and definitely install Wi-Fi but other than that it was a good stay.

Ref booking no 3772099467 at Dorrington Hotel Halstead

We were booked into the Dorrington for 3 nights. 22/7/22 until 25/7/22.
The first thing we noticed was the external door lock was broken.  Marks for security (0 out of 10)
It was room 4 on the ground floor with a sash window which had a broken lock and could be opened from the outside. (0 out of 10)
The floor of the room and bathroom was filthy. (0 out of 10)
The sink in the bathroom only gave cold water from both taps. (0 out of 10)
There is black mould all around the shower. We showered with our socks on ??? ( 0 out of 10 )
The fan in the bathroom could not be switched on because it screamed. (0 out of 10)
There was a shower gel dispenser in the shower which was empty. So we had to go and buy some. (0 out of 10)
It would be very helpful to have a chair in the room even if space is short.
The room was not serviced. If this is the hotel policy we should have been informed.
The hotel noise policy is a load of rubbish. For 2 nights we suffered talking, door slamming and people walking around endlessly after midnight until 4am. 
All in all the experience was so bad for us that we did not stay on the third night we just could not face it.

A disaster. Could not recommend to anyone

It’s been running for years, lovely building but never really managed to have a soul to it. Inside, clean and spacious, good beer selection and Kingfisher on draft which is quite unique and very nice. There is a cafe part of the building, food looks nice and as I say, nice and clean. There is a nightclub attached but no sure how busy that part is if still open to be honest in the current climate. Accommodation is good, clean and reasonable with parking. We have put friends in here and they said it was ok, breakfast also ok and no complaints. Is it a destination, maybe not, but is it good for a pint or a snack, or to stay over when in the area - yes
