Mistakes happen how you deal with them shows the calibre of an establishment, Burnt food replaced by cold food, no apology, followed by rude surly staff who thought eating under microwaved food was ok. 

Bad service and food

Lovely cutw hotel. Wonderful food by outstanding staff. A big thank you to Claire, Toni, Ben, Bobbie for a very warm welcome and going above and beyond to look after a tired traveller. Highly recommended 

Exceptional service 

Great hotel love the quirky character of the hotel area and the rooms. Great staff always helpful. Great location for us but not too busy. Nice pub area with great breakfasts. Would definitely stay here again.

Stay at the Bull Hotel

The room was not  nice. The bathroom was so small you could not use the toilet very easily.  The shower was dirty and you couldnt get in it very easily.  Very disappointed in our stay. The contential breakfast stated  a fruit bowl with yogurt which meant apple,banana, orange in a friut bowl on table with a tub of yogurt. The picture  that is on the website is very misleading. That was not what our room looked like.  It was a very disappointing  stay

Not good very poor

I don’t go to Halstead very often even though it isn’t far away but was very pleasantly surprised at a very warm welcome and cosy pub. We had a few rounds of drinks and found the atmosphere great and service very much up to scratch. I will be making the effort to go again.

Meet up with friends

Today on way home from a funeral, my friends and I stopped off at the Bull Inn. None of us have been before but thought as it was a greene king, it will be a good place to stop and have a bite to eat. I ordered two starters as my main meal salt and pepper squid and the mini camembert. My camembert was very enjoyable. My squid on the other hand was so over cooked, the batter tasted like card board and the squid was so hard it was hard to chew. When the waitress asked if everything was alright, I explained about the squid expecting a replacement or refund as it was inedible. She offered to replace like for like but I explained that trying to eat it has put me off so would not like another one. She said it won't be refunded and if i wanted something to replace it I would have to pay for another dish. I was very surprised at this and that there was no attempt to make good from poor cooking. My squid was not fit for purpose. For this reason I would not recommend this place nor ever go again. Very poor customer service.

Lacks good customer service

Friday night stayed here good friendly staff, lovely food great location, right in the centre of town in walking distance to all amenities would definitely recommend  a great atmosphere would have expected it to be busier lots of facilities, hotel, function room, big beer garden. It has a lot going for it.

Dog, friendly

Went here as a usual place to meet up have a drink & meal. 
We arrived having opened the main door as you would, ordered a drink & walked through to the eating area. 
A member of staff informed us that we could sit here but the staff maybe setting up some breakfast tables around us. ( fine). 
We requested menus to then be told after we had both brought a drink & sat down at an available table that the kitchen was closed. 
At no point were we informed the kitchen was closed from setting foot in the door. 
Given that it was just gone 8pm we hadn’t eaten we then asked can we bring our own chips in from the local chippy. 
We were told NO only residents were allowed! 
However this was not true as we witnessed a local eating chips inside that was a local man. 
So we asked as we were disappointed that we visited here & were local could they at least refund our drinks, given that we wasn’t able to eat here? 
But we were declined.. I asked if they could do a complementary drink instead as a good gesture but the response was NO! 
However they did offer 10 % off our next meal wow! Nearly fell off my chair!! 
How about… THINK. . Times are hard for company’s & pub chains . The Bull hotel is supplied by the Green king therefore would it have broke their bank to at lest either refund the drink or give a complementary sorry drink?! 
The staff never informed us before ordering drinks that there was no operating kitchens. 
The manager that we requested to speak to three times was obviously hiding behind his more vulnerable staff therefore he/she couldn’t face the questions that were asked. 
Overall would not recommend. Sorry for our very bad experience here! 😔

Not a good experience

Princess puppy and I stayed for a couple of nights wile visiting friends who did have room.  It was also princess puppy’s first stay in a pub, so part of her training.  It suited us well.  The only meal I had was breakfast which was fine.  The room was quiet even though it overlooked Lidl, garden good for a run about for the dog.  The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.  I was in a room in the newer building at the back of the hotel which was very quiet and I felt I could go in and out at any time without disturbing anyone else.  All in all a successful canine training trip.

2nd time in as many weeks we have visited The Bull and both times let down by the standard of the food, if you could up you game would be the place to visit as staff very good and not overpriced drinks …. 
You have little or no competition in this area so wouldn’t take a lot to sort the food out !!!
