I visited Haltwhistle to learn more about Hadrian’s Wall.  Ald White Craig Farm is perfectly located between Haltwhistle and Hadrian’s Wall.  Sue, the owner, was so helpful as to pick me up from the train station and show me around the farm cottage. She also drove me back to the train station when my trip had ended. She is a wonderful host.

I had the entire cottage to myself as I was a solo traveler.  The two-story cottage had a full kitchen, living room, a bathroom upstairs and several bedrooms.  I felt safe and slept well each night.  I also got some much-needed exercise by walking back and forth from the cottage to Haltwhistle for food and groceries.  The walk from Haltwhistle to the cottage is mostly uphill but has incredible views.  The cottage is also an easy walk to Hadrian’s wall.  I had such a peaceful stay.  I wish I was there now.  


Peaceful Stay in Haltwhistle

We have just had a fantastic stay at the cottages. Myself and three children and my mother and dog went. The cottage accommodated us all. The children loved getting to go out in the morning and feed the animals. The surroundings are beautiful and the rooms were lovely and clean and tidy. The beds were so comfortable, we all had a great nights sleep. Sue and Dave are a lovely couple, very helpful and kind and make you feel at home. We will definitely be going back.

Fantastic stay with all the family!

Had the pleasure of staying here 15th August 2022. The hosts Susan and Dave are two of the loveliest people you will ever meet, both warm, welcoming and helpful. I was in the area to do the Hadrian’s wall walk and had to go to the accommodation early due to not being able to continue with the walk after getting some nasty blisters! I arrived at our cottage very early but Susan allowed me in to put my feet up and rest while she continued to clean. Later on Dave gave me a lift down to the pub down the road to meet the people I was supposed to be walking with so that I didn’t have to make the journey myself. Later in the evening I needed to go to the local pharmacy because my blisters were showing signs of infection and Susan kindly took me and my partner, as it turned out I ended up going to hospital in Hexham and Dave then made the 25-30 minute trip and waited nearly an hour to collect us, instead of taking any payment from us they just said to donate the money we would of given them to the charity we were raising funds for by doing the walk. They are both amazing and I can’t thank them enough for what they did! … The cottage itself is a real home from home. Comfy, cosy and has all the facilities you could need! The farm has an array of animals that they are happy for you to go see and feed with them if you choose … can’t recommend this place enough!

Amazing hosts!

We have just returned from our fourth trip here, it's so peaceful and because of the extreme heat the bedroom being in the basement was just perfect!  Sue is so lovely and we had everything we needed in the cottage, it has a lovely veranda which we sat out on during the three nights we stayed here.  Although it was just the two of us children would love it here because there are horses, goats, ducks and even two Emus (Rod Hull would be turning in his grave).  Just need to be aware that there is a steep hill to walk down to get to Haltwhistle, no problem for us as it was better than working out in a gym, however anybody with mobility problems would need to take their car.  It's perfect for walking stretches of Hadrian's Wall and seeing all the local Roman history attractions.

Love our little 'Wren's Nest' so much!

I absolutely love staying here. I stayed here a few months ago with my daughter and we had a lovely little night so I decided to book it for myself for 2 nights. Susan is a little national treasure and is so helpful and friendly. The little cottage itself is so cosy. Perfect place if you are walking Hadrian’s wall or you are a fan of the wall as you are in the heart of Hadrian’s wall land and not far from a handful of forts and the wall itself. The property is a working farm but the animals are lovely and you never hear them at night. All in all it come highly recommended by me 😊

Well worth it!

A return visit to these beautiful cottages after several years. Only a few minor changes here and there since we last states. The owners are still as friendly and helpful as always and are great hosts.. Our short stay was comfortable and clean as expected, and the peach and quiet was/is bliss. 
There are many walks around and about, with Hadrians Wall, the Roman fort/museum and the Penine Way only a short distance away. Highly recommended for those wishing a quiet getaway. We will return again in the future :)

Very Peacful !

Stayed in the wrens nest we loved it had everything  we needed susan provided us with breakfast she was very kind and caring. Wrens nest is the smallest of cottages it was well equipped great for the 2 of us and the  veiws where breathtaken cant wait to go back, lovely greeting from the 3 dogs which where nobother so relaxing

Yet again made to feel totally welcome. Sue is an amazing host and works tirelessly. Love the animals and cosy cottages. This is the 3rd visit so must be doing something right. Keep up the brilliant work sue, can't wait to see you again soon

Another brilliant stay

Stayed at Ald Craig White Fm between 19th July and 25th July 2020.

Its our 3rd time staying here and I love everything about it!

We stayed in the lovely little Wrens Nest which sleeps 2. Its the smallest of several self catering rooms but it has the BEST VIEW by far looking out across the little farm and up the hills.

Ald Craig has everything you need for a peaceful "get away from it all" stay. Its about 1.5miles north of Haltwhistle and about the same south of Hadrians Wall at Cawfields. 

It really is very chilled, laid back and idyllic.

We will definitely continue to go back in the future.

Ps.... the owner, Susan, is very friendly and will do anything to ensure you have a great stay. 

I love this place. 

Stayed here for 2 nights, upgraded to the coach house because of a double booking but was great for us. Made use of the log fire and heating. Sue was caring and friendly in making sure we were ok and warm. The cottage was well equipped with cooking tools but you need to bring all you own toiletries including loo roll! This was a perfect location for walking stretches of the wall and visiting the museums when it’s raining. A Sainsbury supermarket is in the town Haltwhistle for anything you may have forgotten but buy the eggs from Sue they were super. We would love to come back and already recommended to others.
