I stayed one night at the Merton hotel and was very glad that I did. It's not fancy, but it's clean, it's comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful to me. Plus, the location was perfect, right near the train station and the bus station- with a grocery store just down the street. I had originally booked into a guesthouse on the other side of town and found it did not suit my needs at all, so this was a last minute booking that I was especially grateful to have made. I would definitely stay here again, for a short term visit.

A welcome respite

Well placed for the city centre and easy walking to the train station.  Basic amenities but it’s clean and friendly and the bed was comfortable - at these prices it’s great value.. Kitchen currently closed but breakfast at the Wetherspoons across the road was fine.

Good position, great value

The Merton Hotel is close to the Hereford railway station. It's also close to the High Street, the Black and White House and the Hereford Cathedral. There are plenty of take aways and eateries nearby. The chap on reception duty when I arrived was courteous and helpful, taking my luggage to the room. This room was good for a single occupant. It was at the back of the building so was quiet. It was also clean and comfortable.

Convenient loction

Disappointing to say the least. Bed was very comfy but the room was showing signs of tiredness. The room was very clean to be fair. Shower was more or less useless. Cold with no power. The whole place could do with a revamp or shut down one or the other. Such a shame really as it is in a prime spot. I will not be staying here again.

Disappointing but very clean.

I stayed with a group of friends for three nights and it did job! It’s a very basic hotel that could do with dragging into the 21st century decor-wise; but it was extremely clean, the beds were comfortable and it had a decent bar!  If that’s all you need, then this place won’t disappoint. The only negative was the amount of noise from the main road and the pubs across the road - but can’t really be blamed on the hotel!

Basic & dated,  but clean and comfortable

We stayed here for 3 nights when visiting Hereford.  The hotel was ok, fairly cheap to stay, not the best place I have visited, but it was fine.

The beds were really comfy and the rooms a decent size.  The bathroom wasn't very clean however!

The hotel doesn't seem to have a very good reputation in the area. Several people were unimpressed when we said we were staying there. I assume that is due to the bar side of things rather than the hotel though.

The bar was only open for the first day that we stayed as there were electrical problems on the other days.

When we came to check out, there was no one around so we just had to leave the key at reception.

Probably wouldn't stay again if I could find somewhere at a decent price as it wasn't that clean, but if I couldn't find anywhere else I would probably stay again!

After having booked the hotel and looking at some of the reviews afterwards I went with some slight concern, however my fears were unfounded. Checking in at the allocated time was simple and I was directed to my room. It was clean and tidy throughout and perfect for an over night stay on a budget. The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the railway station. The bathroom had an efficient warm shower and the bed was comfortable. I had a good nights sleep and wasn't troubled by noise from the main road outside even though it was a Friday night. The hotel lounge seemed busy with other guests and had a decent ambiance. I didn't eat at the hotel nor had breakfast there the next morning due to an early start. It is a simple hotel but certainly clean and tidy an I would have no qualms about staying there again under similar circumstances

Cheap and Cheerful

Knowing the Merton of old, I thought we had a bargain. Unfortunately the whole place needs a massive refurb. The bar and restaurant are closed and the rooms  were fairly clean but really need an overall. Shower curtain was mouldy and a deep clean is needed. 
The position of the hotel is fantastic though for a night out in Hereford

Disappointing, ideal location and clean

Shabby, no parking on site but advertised there was parking,,(public car park up incline..not good returning to hotel at night if on ones own) due to covid19 paper cups in room plastic spoons and kettle..no tea coffee etc, had to ring a mobile number. no extra cups given bought our own mugs next day,.reception not manned,when tea coffee delivered to room the only time saw staff. towels could do with good boil wash, stained and dingy, stairs dangerous no good for mobility issues,such s mine.walk with stick,Functional but that's all

Stayed for 2 nights

The hotel was rather run down with no welcome. When I went for dinner in the bar it was only half open with one person Manning reception and taking orders. As I was waiting for my food an aggressive beggar entered from the street to pester for money. The manager didn't notice or else wasn't concerned.
