Set in a nice location, this place was adequate and almost clean.
 The owners were extremely nosey and asked the question that I've used for the title.
 You felt as if every time you went outside were being watched, it was quite uncomfortable.
 We spent one night, wouldn't recommend 

So what will the sleeping arrangement be?!

We stayed here two nights, 23-24 june. The hosts were very welcoming and lovely people. We stayed in the annexe, which was clean, comfortable, and excellent value for money. A perfect location for exploring the surrounding area. Highly recommend.

Welcoming hosts, great stay

I had a booking at Burnt House Farm and tried to rearrange as my Godson suffered a cardiac arrest and was in intensive care.  I was hoping for some understanding and empathy but unfortunately not - I was happy to move dates to anytime but the host was rude and unkind.  Lost £150

Terrible customer service from initial booking

Had I read the TripAdvisor reviews beforehand I wouldn't have been surprised by the frosty welcome. We'd hired the two and three bedroomed cottages, which, for the price, are a bit basic but fine. However, one of our party was arriving early from the airport and had asked the owners if she could access the property before the alloted check in time. They kindly agreed, however when she did arrive, they were most unpleasant, saying she was too early and more or less denying they had any agreement in place. Upon checking out, they were still moaning about this, and accusing us of planning to stay beyond the check out time of 10am (this was at 9.10am). Added to this, the fridge in one of the cottages had been turned off and when I reported it thinking it was broken they seemed incredulous that I hadn't realised they turn their fridges off between rentals. It's as if these hosts don't actually want guests. There is a huge list of do's and dont's in each cottage, and the heating thermostats are enclosed in a locked box so they can't be altered by guests. This rather backfired as it was a warm few days so we had to open all the windows to let the heat out. I wouldn't advise staying here unless you don't mind being treated as a hindrance.

Not at all welcoming

We stayed here from 18-20th July. 

We thought the owners were friendly and the farm was peaceful in a good location, although next to a road. There is a paddock to exercise and toilet the dog. The bathroom was lovely. Everything was clean. 

Two downsides for us. First that it is quite basic for the price. Furnishings and decor were dated, and the   placemats were ancient and damaged. There was a broken mug in the cupboard. There were only two chairs for the table. The children's room was in 'the lounge' so was the access to the main door, the bathroom and the kitchen. Parents can't make a cup of tea or use the bathroom without walking through children's room. This wasn't clear on the booking website. This was for a price of £125 per night. Breakfast not included.

Second downside was the strict rule messaging coming from the owners. We were told to ring before our stay to discuss rules. We did so, and were told very strictly that the dog was not allowed on the beds, and that the owners always know when dogs go on beds because the hair won't come out of the sheets. They also said that everyone is told this but they don't follow this strict rule. This was repeated to us on arrival. There were further rules set out in capital letters in the property itself. It just didn't feel at all welcoming and made us anxious.  

Finally, nothing was said on booking.com about an extra charge for the dog. This was told to us when we rang up, and the owner argued with me when I said I hadn't known there was an extra charge for the dog. She said it was clearly there, and I didn't want an argument so I let it go. She only charged the dog for one of the two nights, but overall, it wasn't very pleasant. 


Burnt House Farm Family Suite

Whilst the location is great, combining a countryside vista and 10min ride to beach, both the standard of holiday let and the controlling hosts leave one wanting to leave.

The accomodation feels like it is furnished from a car boot sale, the sofa was broken, stained and smelled. I thanked myself that I'd brought a few clean blankets to enable us to sit on it. The entire let needs a deep clean, the shower was unsanitary, thick dust that previous occupants had written 'clean me' had obviously been missed by the owners. Likewise the greasy extractor hub had the same message on it. The kitchen has no dishwasher or washing machine and has a mismatch of chipped stained mugs and grim old pans. Externally, the outside seating was covered in bird droppings,  surrounded by weeds and uncut grass with open fencing and owners horses too near to allow us or own friendly dog to relax outside.
 
Owners were military in their 'don'ts' during our stay the minute we turned our car engine off.  Property and owners are NOT DOG FRIENDLY, infact one may think they not even people friendly. The hottest day of the year we left our dog in the coolness of the room for 2hrs and returned to being told off after they confessed they'd been snooping. We felt uncomfortable by being evidently watched  and  under house arrest that we closed all blinds to avoid them further. Despite this the owner was round the back of the let and then banging on the door at 9:30am on Sunday morning to advise that we had to be checked out by 10am. If we didn't have the children we would have left shortly after our first reprimand. 

Feels like the owners degudge having to have paying guests, especially dogs. Won't be returning and wouldn't recommend.

Grubby and unfriendly accomodation

As a family we have several long weekends away a year , we always choose a self catering property to accommodate our two children and our very well behaved Staffy .
From the moment of arrival I feared this was not going to be as relaxed as normal . 
The over familiar hosts were out as soon as we arrived which is fine but the rules were being dictated as if we were still at boarding school. 
We were disappointed to find the property was not as clean as we are accustomed at this price range , the outside enclosed garden was not dog friendly and the outside furniture was covered in bird droppings , obviously not fresh !
When I went out to the car I was greeted  with further input from the hosts about whether I should park the car here or there , the continuing feeling of discomfort was disconcerting!
Undeterred we had a good evening .
When leaving for lunch the next day , due  to the high temperatures we decided to leave the dog in the living room in her bed and come and collect her after lunch . Our host were out straight away proclaiming that the dog could be left alone at all !  I told them that our dog is exceptionally well behaved and will only bark if someone comes snooping at the windows .
We knew this would not be the last we heard about this .
On arrival to collect our dog after lunch , I was approached by the owner saying that she had been snooping through our patio windows and found our dog on the sofa and she started barking !
At this point I getting a little grumpy as the sofa was more than grubby when we arrived and we’d covered it with newly laundered blanket. I told her she should not be snooping around and disturbing our dog . At no point when we paid extra for our dog , in our ‘ dog friendly ‘ rental were we advised that they had ridiculous rules and restrictions.
These properties are not pet friendly , they take extra money for the privilege of taking your pet but they don’t really want them their .
If I’d done my normal trip adviser check , I’d have realised this to be the case .
All in all , cleanliness was poor , we felt uncomfortable due to constantly monitoring from the owners .
Despite this we had a great  holiday and location is fab .

Don’t be fooled by the outside space that is advertised, it’s not available due to the owners having dogs . 
No breakfast was available as owners away 🙄 
Not the cleanest of places, old fashioned, tiered needs an overhaul.

Not the best

Such a lovely place to stay and such peaceful surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our two day stay and situated just 15 minutes from Highbridge and Burnham was ideal..The owners Steve and Carmen were pleasant and helpful. Ample free off road parking alongside the accommodation and being dog friendly our two little dogs also enjoyed their stay. My wife and I would have no hesitation in returning here. 

Tranquil and Peaceful Location

Set in the heart of the countryside yet within easy driving distance of Burnham, Brean and Weston-Super-Mare, Burnt House Farm is ideally located for a quiet and peaceful holiday. 

We found the hosts to be pleasant, welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.

We stayed in the three-bedroom cottage which was spacious enough and had all the amenities you could possibly need for a self-catering experience.

Whilst we enjoyed our stay here we did find that cleanliness was a bit of an issue for us. I appreciate it was the end of what was undoubtedly a busy season but some of the internal window frames didn't look like they'd been wiped clean for months and the whole place could have done with a serious spring-clean. In addition, one of the sofas really was the worse for wear and had 'November 5th' written all over it.

It is a shame that the general state of the cottage rather spoilt what would have certainly been a five star review from us otherwise.
