Well nothing much has changed I'm afraid. No damp visible, but the room smelt damp. There's a need to spend some money on these rooms as everything works - just! The toilet flush is just about working, although with less than half a full of toilet paper, you probably won't need it! No extraction in the bathroom which causes more damp.
The hanging rail collapsed and the fridge is still humming.
Although the room was advertised with breakfast, that consisted of some boxes of cereal and milk in the fridge - we passed!
No bottled water.
We were at a wedding at Offley Place so it was convenient, but that's about all. It only cost £60, but that was too much for what we got! 
Staff in the pub were pleasant enough but the room was pretty poor to be fair.
Shame as it could be lovely, but desparately needs some TLC and money!! 

Clean, but that's about all

The pub is under new management. They had only been open 2 weeks but provided a private room with a warm and welcoming environment.
The food was really lovely, non stop pizza’s from their new pizza oven together with southern fried chicken and salad. 
Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended!

60th Birthday Party

Never stopped anywhere so bad! 
The tiny twin room was freezing cold, with damp and mold on all the walls. She shower was hot but like being drizzled on. The shower cubical was tiny. Only 1 light in the bathroom worked and the toilet was a work of art to flush. The main room was tiny. Beds were very uncomfortable and bedding and towels were really old and worn out. A door to the electric cupboard was hanging off and filthy inside. Black mold on all the walls and huge damp mold patch directly behind the headboard. To top it off a broken gate outside banging in the wind all night. The pub itself was ok and reasonable prices. The food was well cooked but small portions. 
Over all terrible and needs condemning!   

Rooms need condemning 

Grim little room, not a room in the pub but in an outbuilding, up some stairs. Slight smell of damp. No hot water in the tap. Noisy fridge in the room (had to unplug it to get to sleep), Two single beds - the mattress was squishy. Black mould in the shower. In fairness I booked in a hurry and on price - a mistake, I know.

Wouldn't book again.

Friendly staff. Nowhere on this site did it mention that it is unsuitable for guests with mobility issues.and unfortunately I did not ask . There are 3 steep steps down to the rooms. The first room they showed us had a flight of stairs to the toilet and bathroom a bed and one chair. They showed us to another room which was better, one high step, a bed ,no chairs, no plug for the bathroom sink, and a noisy fridge. Mould on the walls and around the door frame, toilet hard to flush.To cap it off, the couple in the next room decided to have a slanging match that went on til 2.30 am. Definitely would not recommend,!!

Disappointed

My partner booked this venue as we were attending a wedding locally.  From
The photos It looked quaintly pretty. Alas in reality it was just horrible, shabby,  the building was full of cracks and con Webb’s the carpet walls were dirty, the shower and bathroom disgusting - see photos

The bedding was stained, shower looked shocking, many bulbs blown, toilet brush disgusting. Had to drop bags and leave quickly for a wedding down the road otherwise if we had seen all the problems not sure we would have stayed. We arrived back very late and had to use torch to go up to bathroom.  Did not shower just got up and left quickly for home.  They do leave boxes of cereal and fresh milk in the very noisy fridge and lots of tea bags and coffee. It is a very cheap stay but don’t think you even get what you pay for.

Would not return

This is a very friendly, cosy country pub in the village of Offley, Hitchin.

A family member has moved in up the road so I decided to stop here for a pint whilst walking the dog.

Very friendly barmaid and we sat speaking to a local gentleman for some time.

Friendly, Cosy

Stayed for 2 nights to do some walking in the local area.  £45 a night for a double room is very good value - rooms are basic but had everything we needed - tea and coffee making, toiletries, tv etc.  Bit of a nuisance having to go upstairs to the en-suite bathroom but no big deal.  Ate dinner in the pub both nights - friendly staff and locals and the food was excellent.  You need a big appetitie to tackle the ribs and the mixed grill but Val's pie and steak were much more manageable and just as good.

Very Good Value

We popped in for Sunday lunch. The pub is cosy and the menu has some classic as well as new dishes. The food was good and we had the Sunday roasts. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Only a couple of criticisms, roast dinner had small roasted potatoes with skins on which weren’t as good as some proper big roasties. The staff seemed short handed and were constantly dashing around. I think an extra pair of hands would have enabled them to slow down and offer more drinks and desserts in a timely manner which ultimately is more cash in the till and a better service. If we’d been asked we would have had more drinks but we struggled to get their attention with it being so busy.  Overall lovely pub, great food just needs a little tweak in the service.
