We only picked this place because it was central to Holt and from where we needed to be.  We really wanted to like this place, but its service was a let down and not to the "posh" standards they state to be, in terms of service.

Pros:
-tea, cakes and pastries are all well made and tasty
- parking option onsite or in surrounding area at no cost
-Spacious rooms
-complimentary tea and cake voucher for guests 
-Modern Nespresso coffee machine inside room

Cons: 
- we went down at 9:45 for breakfast. Waited 10min before being seated, staff wouldn't make eye contact and we had to ask for a table, there were plenty available. The booth seating's were covered in crumbs. Had to wait a further 25mins for hot breakfast order to arrive. Service was so slow. 
-Water filter in room was not clean and not topped up with any water after housekeeping had been.
-light switch placement in room 9 is odd. There are three switches directly on the headboard, which we kept hitting our heads on in the middle of night
-lumpy and old mattresses. The minute you lie down, you feel your sinking right in
-In the evening you can hear all the doors slamming and staff talking loudly. Appreciate its a old building and why they provide earplugs
-Water pressure in bathroom sink and shower is very very bad.
-check-in and check-out staff , not very welcoming, they are cold and robotic
-overall services does not match the room rates and  prices they charge. 
-Wont be returning and unfortunately wont be recommending to others

Hmm could be better

We were greeted with instant warmness and kindness by the gentleman on reception (unfortunately didn’t catch his name) but he was so lovely and welcoming when we arrived! We had such a fabulous, cozy stay. Our room was gorgeous & spotless. We had a lovely meal, the food was amazing and we & thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We would recommend this b&b to anyone visiting the Holt area! Thank you to all of the staff for making us feel at home!

Booked a three night midweek break here recently. The room and bathroom are very  big and spacious.
The shower is temperamental both in temperature and flow. 
The bed, although big, is a bit soft and lumpy and definitely showing its age. It is quite amusing that in 2024 the hotel consider leaving bits of worn out old tat in the rooms and corridors "posh" 
The two tatty old leather chairs in the room are for show only as they are so narrow and worn out, sitting on them is an impossibility.
The TV is still on an angle after 3 years :)
Now to the breakfast

Day 1 - Service very slow, both of us ordered the English Breakfast(with some simple changes) took about 20 minutes to arrive (after waiting 10 minutes to order) wrong items on plates but didn't want to wait another 20 minutes so accepted it and sorted out ourselves. Was offered more coffee at this point. accepted but coffee never arrived. Nobody checked in with us after our breakfast was delivered. Left after 20 minutes with no coffee.

Day 2 - Took around 10 minutes to take our order again. Coffee was delivered within 5 minutes. After 30 minutes still no breakfast. Waitress noted this and said she would check on our food and offered us more coffee. We never saw her again or the coffee. After another 10 minutes we were told by a different waitress that our food hadn't even started to be cooked because of a "technical error" 10 minutes went by and we were told that our food was "being plated" another 10 minutes passed (longest "being plated" in history!) Our food then arrived which was basically eggs on toast. Both my scrambled, and my partners poached eggs, were cold! We still hadn't received the coffee we were offered. We left after the manager made every excuse in the book. If you are going to charge upwards of £200 per night then you need robust enough systems and checks in place to provide a basic level of breakfast service. 

Day 3 - Didn't bother with breakfast. Went to the excellent Owl Tearooms in Holt where we had a superb hot breakfast on the table in less than 12 minutes.

Hugely disappointing stay, they refunded the cost of the breakfasts, but that's not really the point, is it?

Not a good experience

Just about to check out of my 2 night stay in Byfords in Holt. 
Friendly efficient service. Wonderful tasteful rooms, fluffy big towels, Temple Spa toiletries in the bath. There’s tea and coffee in the rooms with fresh milk in the fridge rather than revolting cartons, homemade shortbread biscuits. A voucher for an afternoon tea and cake. 
The breakfast was exceptional, as much fresh buffet as you wanted, freshly squeezed juices, and the biggest fry up ever, quality ingredients, not water pumped bacon or cheap sausages, well done Byfords. 
My first stay here on business, I won’t bother going anywhere else in the future.
If you’ve never been to Holt you’re in for a treat. Beautiful town with an array of independent shops and eateries.

Everything was superb!

The staff absolutely make this place, they are all so friendly and helpful.  Beautiful room, extremely comfortable with lots of lovely details.  Gorgeous food - breakfast is amazing with exceptional quality and choice.  All adds up to a great stay, thoroughly recommend it, thank you very much to the whole team.

Four of us had an amazing afternoon tea today. Excellent friendly service. We got a top up of tea and more sandwiches. Really tasty sandwiches and the cakes were to die for especially the carrot cake. Also delicious fruit and cheese scone. We will be back!

Afternoon Tea

Arrived on Friday for the Holt Christmas lights switch on and fireworks. . Quirky room in the eaves with a nice little desk/seating area and lovely bathroom.  Lovely shortbreads and a delicious gluten free brownie with a great selection on teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Fridge in the room and water filter jug. 
Voucher to use in the restaurant for tea and cake which is a nice touch. So spoilt for choice with a large range of gluten free cakes/tray bakes. Extensive gluten free savoury menu too.
Breakfast choice was extensive, lovely selection of cold meats, cheeses and smoked salmon, fresh fruit and yoghurt and granolas. Wide choice of hot food, including full English, kippers, kedgeree, frittata and a selection of sourdoughs; smashed avocado,  Benedict and more.
Perfect position centrally to Holt with a fantastic range of clothing, gift shops and stores. 
Dinner was in one of the cozy dining room snugs, the seafood platter was delicious and gluten free. The mussels and fries were heavenly then brownie sundae to finish off.
Sunday morning breakfast delicious and filling as everything is far too tempting after a beautiful coastal walk only 4 miles away at Westbourne. 
Little car park at the rear which was full but easy to drop off luggage then town car park a couple of minutes walk. 
Lovely staff couldn’t do enough for us.

I absolutely love coming to Byfords - it is such a special, comfortable and memorable experience. The rooms are absolutely stunning and each unique; the food is excellent and the service is always 10/10. Thank you!

Lovely clean room, quiet, friendly staff, so made for a relaxing stay. The building has lots of character and is set in the heart of Holt. My only criticism is the lack of bath robes and we had to wait over 40 mins for breakfast. The breakfast is in the cafe, so open to the public, if you prefer something more exclusive, this might not be your first choice.

Fabulous stay at Byford's for our Wedding Anniversary.  On arrival the staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was stunning and everything was quality. We ate in the restaraunt on both evenings and the food was amazing especially the pie ! Breakfast was excellent too. We cannot rate Byford's high enough. We loved staying there and will look forward to a return stay.
