A great hotel - almost unique units own way but sadly it has been bought by a developer who is in the process of demolishing it to build holiday homes - another local business lost.... more second homes!!

This B&B stands on the cliff edge overlooking Hope Cove, with stunning views of the Village and the relentless mesmerizing surf breaking over the Cove. I’ve spent a while trying to decide if its decor can be described as early 80s or late 70s, and I think late 70s is fairer. However, if the decor has a Fawlty Towers feel to it, the service does not, as we were looked after very well. The rooms were spotless, and the breakfast, chosen from a menu was properly and individually cooked (rather than drying under hot plates or toasted on a conveyor belt toaster that can’t toast bread) was lovely. The chef really cared and that showed. As I’ve said the service was top notch, although in some respects it had a dated feel (room number plaques on breakfast tables, no lunch or dinner or bar, staff only present at certain times of the day etc) but it worked and was appropriate for the venue. Our room was very good value (£115 at the height of the mid-August season) and we would certainly return if we could. Unfortunately we will not be able to as the venue will close at the end of August. So if you are lucky enough to read this before the end of August 2019, snap up a room to enjoy a lovely trip down memory lane, in every respect. The owner, who we met, was a lovely chap who had accepted that the Lodge is not sustainable. He’s locked in planning discussions about replacing the venue with 16 flexible holiday lets. We saw his plans and they are lovely, modern and appropriate. Holiday lets rather than private homes will still bring multiple tourists to the village so the plans struck us as entirely appropriate and a very good thing for Hope Cove, so we do very much hope that the planners and any local objectors see the plans for what they are: a necessary and much needed upgrade, which will keep visitors returning to the Cove and sustaining the local economy. There is no question we are very much looking forward to returning to the Cove and staying in them, so we pray common sense prevails and the Cove gets this new tourist accomodation as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you can catch the ‘time warp’ Lodge before its gone, then do so; you will not regret it.

The lovely little gem of a different bygone era. Catch it quickly though, as it’s time is up.

Many have described this premises as dated and it is. However, this B&B  is rammed with an eclectic mis-match of furniture, fixtures and fittings that it is 95% there in terms of being representative of the ever popular ‘Shabby Chic’ trend. It surprises me that the owners don’t capitalise in that respect. I stayed in room 11 with a sea view. Like others have said, it and the premises generally are spotless. The pool for us was a little on the cool side but at least it was available for use. Sheesh those beds were firm too. 
You need a car in my opinion or you’ll be limited to staying put in Hope Cove or using taxis which we were informed were a little expensive, I guess because Hope Cove is a tad isolated    Breakfast is what you would expect and you should find something to your taste. 
I was supplied with one totally unacceptable breakfast item and I suspect others had been served the same but that went unnoticed. I was disappointed that staff did not approach each table to remove the offending item once it had been brought to their attention and provide a replacement. Suffice it to say apologies were accepted and no other issues found. 
Would I go back? Jury’s still out!

It suits its purpose 

Just got back from a 2 day stay at Lantern Lodge, Yes the rooms are dated but they are very clean, the staff are amazing and nothing is to much trouble. Excellent location so peaceful and the pool a real bonus. Would definitely recommend this B&B and would stay again.

Beautiful Location

Just got back from a 3 night stay at this beautifully situated B&B. The staff made us feel at home immediately and the welcome for dogs is as good. Great breakfast. Pay the extra for a sea view the sunsets are amazing

Don't miss this gem

We really loved this place. Very helpful staff, large clean room and excellent breakfast. The pool was an added bonus too. Excellent base for exploring South Devon. Lots of very good eating places close by. Hope to visit again soon.
