We have stayed here twice before and had booked again, for mid July, to do some walking in the nearby Pentland Hills. Accommodation is immaculate, and the resident owner (Dawn) could not be more helpful as well as producing splendid 'bespoke' breakfasts. There is an extensive entrance driveway and garden, with a golf club nearby, and open country all around. Only 30 minutes drive to South Edinburgh with two villages a few minutes away by car - West Linton to the south and Carlops to the north.

Sadly, we were forced to cancel this Summer's booking due to unexpected medical circumstances, but Dawn was very understanding and we suffered no financial penalty.

A wonderful, luxury B&B

This beautiful BnB is located about 2 km on the Edinburgh side of West Linton on the right just before the Golf Club sign. If you use the post code to find the place on your GPS you will in all likelihood find yourself across the road at someone's private house which also has Rutherford in its name. I have first hand experience of this anomaly.
Anyway from e outside the place looks wonderful and our hostess Dawn gave us a most personable greeting to match. It looks like a castle from the outside but is very modern on the inside - close to brand new. Our room on the first floor was everything you could hope for - a decent size, comfy bed, nice temp and a spotless bathroom. Follow the operating instructions for the TV closely. WIFI is free and works. Ask Dawn for advice on how to use the park and ride to get into the city. Carry the correct change £3.60 pp.

Tranquility outside Edinburgh

Excellent welcome, perfect breakfast and very kind! We will come back if we visit again! It was our first stop and our best stay at Schotland. The room was also perfect! We will sure recommend it to our friends!

Booked last minute to see my daughter perform. A wonderful place to stay, with a really welcoming reception even though we were late. The rooms were large and comfortable with a great breakfast in the morning, which really set us up for a day at the fringe. All the family enjoyed the stay and we will be back.

Edinburgh Fringe

Rutherford House is in a lovely setting, and as we approached from the driveway we knew we would not be disappointed. We were greeted at the door by Dawn with a lovely smile and welcome.After being shown around the large but welcoming guest lounge we were then escorted to our room we were not disappointed. A welcoming pot of tea and homemade biscuits awaited us in the lounge and nothing was too much trouble.Fresh milk available on the beverage trolley which we always like. The trolley was situated outside the room which was different for us but it was lovely as you didn't have the mess in your room plus it is a nice ice breaker if you want it to be.As for breakfast a selection of strawberries peaches grapefruit and various melons alongside cereals. And we had warm croissants offered another plus and not a sachet of sauce or jams in sight.All preserves home made and the breakfast was divine . Dawn is a brilliant host and we would definitely return. The bake house offered lovely food too

We spent three nights in this very pleasant bed&breakfast: neat decoration, comfortable and very clean room, plenty of breakfast and warm welcome!
