The awful reviews of this place are completely accurate. I wouldn’t stay here again if you paid me. Please see my previous hotel reviews for context, I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some wonderful locations, but this one left a sour taste.

TL:DR - don’t stay here, the owner is a control freak with a loose screw somewhere.

The location of this place is great - eg for a visit to Urquhart castle etc. However the road outside the front of the ‘hotel’ is very busy during the day and evening. There is a footpath though if you wish to walk to the village itself for a meal or refreshments.

Turns out it’s also directly in the flightpath of the RAF low level Tornado jets. Which is fine if you’re expecting them, rather triggering if you are ex services with PTSD though.

The room was ok and had a comfortable bed. The ‘en-suite’ is an afterthought with a high step to enter and if you are over 5’ 10” then you may also hit your head whilst negotiating the step on the way out.

For an owner who demands that no single-use plastics be brought into the property, the place is full of single use plastic! The coffee machine is one of those Tassimo things that churns out thick dehydrating poison from unrecyclable pods. The only alternative being the Nescafe coffee wrapped in.. yes, more plastic.

The warning bells were ringing and the red flags being hoisted already when we recieved a text from the property prior to our stay (But post taking our hard earned cash which was non-refundable (and now I know why)) Yet we read the reviews and thought we would give the place a chance.

On arrival we rang the bell and waited. And waited. Had to phone her mobile in the end to locate the owner to be let in. When she arrived she immediatly told me I’d have to move my car - I had parked it as directed in the rather explicit instructions given in the aforementioned text. Although she did not introduce herself, I now know this person to be Charlotte, although I shall refer to her in the following review as ‘that woman’. Anyway, we proceeded to check-in and were shown to our room and given more proscriptive instructions about how to have the windows open if we wished to be in the room, and how to have them fixed if we were out. We are a fairly easy going pair, so we complied as directed, left the windows secured and went out to dinner. Upon our return we settled down dear reader, and readied ourselves for bed. It had been a long day of travel to get here and I anticipated a good sleep. Our room was on the first floor and it had been a beautiful hot day in the highlands. With no fans available the heat and stuffiness of the room was stifling so I propped the windows open as instructed to let some air in. At approximately 10.45pm I was alerted to torchlight being shone through the window. I went to see what was going on and there was someone moving about on the lawn with a torch. I asked them to stop shining it through our window but got no reply and so went back to bed. Minutes later I got a text message from 'that woman' telling me that the windows were not to be left open in this manner as bats or birds might enter the property and cause a mess - see the image of the text attached. I didn’t respond to the text. Why feed the animals or give the narcissist their supply eh?

Next morning she knocked on our door and instigated a series of interactions that were incredibly unpleasant. Eventually she told us (through the door) in an aggressive manner that she wanted us to leave and gave us 20 minutes to get out. I was completely happy with this and off we went. We next had a great stay in a beautiful hotel in Pitlochry, but it did leave a sour taste in our mouths to be honest. She did give a refund for the night that we did not stay, although I'd have been happy for her to keep the money and invest in some counselling/anger management for herself.

Drumnadrochit is a beautiful place. By all means go. Just don't stay here.

Do your due dilligence and heed the terrible reviews.

On the plus side this B&B is perfectly situated in easy walking distance to the village of Drumnadrochit.  Located here, The Fiddlers is a fabulous pub with traditional charm and delicious food. We were also able to easily book a Loch Ness boat trip in a nearby gift shop and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of hunting the monster the very next day.

With regards to the Kilmichael House, our spacious room was comfortable, clean and had an enormous bed.  We only stayed one night enroute to Dufftown and were content with the accommodation that  met our functional needs.

However, reading many reviews post visit, I've gotta be honest and tend to agree with them in relation to 'Charlotte', the owner.  She is certainly an interesting character and abruptly introduced herself to us with  "who are you"? when tapping on my car window, literally as I arrived in the car park.

She then requested I move my motor literally half a metre, in case it caused obstruction, in which was essentially an empty field!  Once inside, she reiterated her long list of house rules, that were also displayed in written form on the walls.

Her advice about the amenities in the village was appreciated, as was the history about the Sequoia Trees in the gardens, but we declined her offer of a Continental Breakfast option for an additional tenner and chose to explore the local vicinity.

We never saw 'Charlotte' (or any other staff member for that matter) again, since after returning to our digs and a restful night's sleep, she was as elusive as 'Nessie' and we left without even as much as a goodbye!



Functional, but lacking customer service!

 I booked 2 rooms for my husband, myself and my 20+ grandson.
Charlotte greeted us and took us to our rooms which were extremely spacious and very smart, clean and tidy. Our en-suites were spacious with walk in showers.outside our rooms was a spacious lounge area with lovely views, comfy chairs and a tv. WiFi was excellent and also plenty of free parking. 
Charlotte was very knowledgeable and very helpful in advising us of must see places and recommending restaurants nearby. 
We couldn’t fault our stay and will certainly return to see more of the Highlands as such a beautiful part of the country. We will be booking to stay at Kilmichael House again in the very near future. Thankyou Charlotte for making our stay so enjoyable!! Tony & Pat Brown

Perfect place to stay when visiting Lochness and the Highlands

I was a volunteer there for like... 5 days? (I was supposed to stay for a month but I couldn't stand being verbally (and almost physically) abused every day) . This woman doesn't seem to have any paid workers, it's just her and the volunteers. 
This hostess is absolutely insane and I'm actually surprised she's just as rude and horrible to actual clients who pay to stay there. Reading these reviews, it seems she's horrible to everyone, no matter how much you pay, so here's another bad review/warning because everyone should avoid this place at all costs. 
Anyway, this woman has insulted/yelled at me, called me all kinds of names, and when I told her I was leaving, she threw ALL OF MY STUFF in the pouring rain and made me pack everything in the (again) pouring rain, so I had no wearable clothes and could have gotten sick while being on my own in a foreign country, which is very hypocritical of her considering she's all about "health and safety" and was violent towards me because some of my stuff was "blocking the corridor so accidents could happen" when I was moving rooms. She's also used my personal problems (which had nothing to do with my work or anything I did there) against me, which is just vile. 
I also heard her being extremely rude to a client on the phone??? Basically making fun of him?? She's just horrible and abusive in general , so please stay safe and avoid her.

Nastiest woman you will ever meet. Please avoid.

What a gem of a place this is, I have now found my favourite place to stay in Drumnadrochit.
We read the email which stated that we were to ring the doorbell and Charlotte came out and told us where to park, understandably as parking is tight. 
She then took us to the newly built house next door, stating that it was warmer in March than the old house. We were blown away at the luxury of our accommodation, from entering the front door, the decor was so tasteful and as we walked up the staircase to our room we were amazed at how lovely it was. Our room was massive, with a super king bed which was super comfy. The room had a large en suite with a very powerful shower. 
We were also surprised to see a nespresso machine and lots of pods for it, plus the fine bone china cups and saucers were so cute. I asked if there were any fruit teas and Charlotte brought some for me, they were great quality ones too. 
Our room was in the first floor which had 3 bedrooms up there, outside our room was a large living room with couches. TV and lovely views from the large windows, what a lovely place it was to relax in rather than just being in our room. 
When Charlotte showed us to our room, she was so lovely and chatty, she told us the history of the place and talked a loud the large redwood trees in the garden, I couldn’t have wished for a more friendly welcome. 
We will definitely be back soon.

Amazing Place ( Don’t listen to past reviews)

We booked a room for a few days . Charlotte sent a very long email with all her rules . Suddenly without any reason she cancelled our booking . Glad she did as her reviews are terrible ! She should be in the army instead of being the owner of a B&B 
Avoid her !! 

Crazy and rude woman 

this was a great place.  it was calm and quiet.  it was really clean and the bed was comfortable.  The communication with the owner was easy she would respond quickly.  Since she was not there to great us, we had a code for a key and it was easy to get in.
