We were looking for somewhere to stop in our Motorhome as we were doing NC500. At first we’re reluctant by the reviews, but we do not regret staying here. The site is a great size and has good facilities. Showers hot, bathroom area clean. Also had all the facilities we needed. There is also a great food hut on site if you don’t want to venture into the town.

Great stay!

Nice site, great location and very popular. Toilet blocks are a disgrace; outdated and poorly maintained. The owners need to urgently address this to justify the nightly rate.  I ended up using the shower in my own motorhome.

Torvean Review

Beautiful site , shame about the recent change of wardens.   Toilets are now dirty and unkept under the new wardens.   They are also used by the public and food van customers located outside the site.   The wardens running the site the last 7 months did an excellent job.   Such a shame to get rid of them without much notice.

Location great But Avoid!!!!!!!!!

A grumpy man on reception,  not at all welcoming. Equally grumpy female onsite. Not at all pleasant attitude,  I think they forgot  that they are in the hospitality industry and that there are pleasant ways to speak to people. The site has all the stated services  but while it may be near the water, the water is not visible. It felt like too many people in a small space between the surrounding holiday lodges and caravan s and Motorhomes. The canal bridge is near so loud alarms as it opens and shuts. Not for a peaceful stay. There are much nicer sites in Inverness with a friendly warm welcome. 

I felt unwelcome.

I would say avoid this campsite unless you are merely looking for somewhere simply to park up for the night before moving on.  A few points from a family of four just looking for a weekend away:

-on arrival another guest warned me to beware of the owner as "he is a nippy sweetie and will have a go at you about everything".  I thought this was a bit odd at first arrival having never visited before.   We got checked in fine with no dramas and if anything both attendants were helpful. We chose this site due to location but to be honest we would have changed the booking if we could have without losing all our money as it is non refundable despite when you book and when you cancel.  I would have liked to have changed this booking 3 months before arrival but could not due to this inflexibility.

-The toilet block and showers were very dirty, so much so we did not shower in them at all and used our caravan.  I did not see them being cleaned once and all weekend there was a bucket of dirty water with a dirty mop there, I assume for mopping the shower when used.  I never saw anyone else use the showers either, I assume for the same reasons.

-The small site is crammed full of caravans and not much space for your pitch.  We were pitched effectively in the middle of the grass as our van was long and getting into the allocated pitch was impossible to manoeuvre.  As a result we were surrounded by other campers. They seemed unaware of the size of the van we were bringing so it may be good to have this option on the booking form like many other camp sites do.

-The bins were full and not emptied that I saw and again just quite a small dirty area.

-The water taps for filling your water containers can be used either as a trickle taking ages to fill up or soaking you all over as they spray everywhere.  All the taps we found seemed to be the same and I was also put off using them by other guests washing shoes, dogs and other equipment in them. 

-My husband got a 'row' twice from the man who runs it.  Once for driving the wrong way on a one way system (there are no signs to indicate this) and as we were put in the middle of the grass it was difficult accessing the road anyway.  The second row was trying to return to the site with our car at 2202 hours at night.  He reluctantly let us in but made sure we knew he was doing us a favour.  Complete power trip and just made our weekend unenjoyable.  We left early on Sunday as we couldn't wait to get home for a hot shower and peace and quiet.

The location is good for walking to the town centre (20 mins) and there is plenty to do in Inverness.  Tried to get a bus into town but waited 50 minutes for the bus but it did not arrive so flagged down a taxi.

-We did not eat at the on site food van as we had other plans but it looked and smelled very good and was pretty busy.

We will never return here as it was just hassle from start to finish and it is meant to be a relaxing time away!!!

The park itself in in a good quite location ,not far from town.Check in was quick and good  .it’s the shower block and toilets that let it down ,dated ,dirty and cold .The first toilet I went in had disgusting brown residue at the back of the seat .The showers have no where to set your cloths ,they were hot but a fair bit of mold in the cubicle ,also the outside door to the block was jammed open so fairly cold .

Me and my husband stayed in one of the lodges on site for a week. On arrival we went to the hut and were met with a very uninspiring young boy who seemed like he didn't want to be there and knew very little about anything. On day 1 I got locked in the bathroom as the door handle stuck. I emailed to report this as no staff on site. A maintenance man arrived and removed the handle and said he would be back later that day with a replacement, well we never saw him ever again and spent the week with no toilet door handle!! 

The Internet is TERRIBLE! false advertising to say its high speed quality!!! Struggled to get 1 bar of signal and Netflix on TV didn't work due to this. The free view TV barely got a signal at times too. We raised this with park staff and maintenance man none of whom seemed willing or able to fix it.

After reading All the reviews I see that the Internet problem has been going on for years and clearly nothing ever done about it!!

The lodge itself was very clean and comfortable and if the TV signal and  Internet were greatly improved it would make me consider going back. The lack of site staff was also a concern.

I feel we were charged vastly over the odds for a less than top quality holiday!

Such a shame as its a great location and has potential to be so much better!

Could be better

We arrived for a 2 night stay so it was okay but could be great with a little effort. Our booking process worked well having booked online and checked into reception as you would expect but there was no-one attending reception the following day or o  the morning we left. A white board was outside reception with the name of the camper and pitch number. In all the years of camping I have never seen this before.
We were in a grass pitch which was good, not at all soggy even though it has previously rained. I did notice that some campers don't give others adequate space between pitches.
The toilet block has been updated in recent years but isn't as clean as it could be.
I didn't use the laundry but I did look into it but it was very untidy with a pile of cleaners laundry there for the time we were there.
Dishwashing room was very good.
Very easy access into town, either a 25 minute walk or twice hourly bus service.
A lovely walk along the Caledonian Canal which is next to the campsite.
With a bit more effort and attention to detail this could be a great site!!

Could Be A Great Site

Stayed here at the start of our NC500 journey and the end of the trip.

Site is fine, good size pitches and reasonably priced.

Staff fine, helpful enough.

Toilets were ok the first time, but a week later, on our return, I’m really not sure if they had been cleaned as there was the same rubbish on the floor and a sponge on the sink.

The showers were ok on first arrival, ( apart from the shower curtains that were covered in black mould) but second arrival they were filthy.

There are also signs around the campsite stating the food and coffee hut is open 8am - 8pm, but in actual fact it’s 10am open. 

Good location - a 25mins walk into the town centre!
