My family and I recently spent two nights here.  The only positive was the location.  There is a great coffee/breakfast spot next door and the restaurant across the street was delish!  The accommodations, though, were pitiful!  It’s very obvious that very little is done to maintain the facilities and our room (and the one next to ours) had no hot water.  We discussed this with someone familiar with the place and were told that the owner was aware of the problem but had not yet addressed it.  This was so upsetting.  We have 3 young children and they could not tolerate cold water.  This place could be so nice but we felt as if the owner is aware of the advantage of their location so do not care about costumer service. 

Terrible! 

I have not actually been their yet. 
But for four weeks have been trying to rearrange my stay for the following day. This is impossible no one answers the phone nor reply to emails.

If they actually said that the date cannot be changed then that would be fair enough, I would at least have had the courtesy of an answer. However all I have got from them is total silence. I booked via booking.com and they get no response to their requests either. Unfortunately unless they get a response the original conditions remain and I would not get a refund, why should I be the one to pay for the lack of response from this place.

I am now worried that if I do arrive then their will be no on there, the customer service is abysmal.

Do they exist? Customer service certainly does not!

The first room I thought was ok? Out the back yard on its own in the corner. Unfortunately I sat in the bed and it was like sitting in a bed frame made of jelly. Couldn’t sleep on that. It would collapse it was so badly held together. Also the flooring was moving everywhere as the wooden floor boards were not joined. 
Moved me across the yard to a family one. Slightly bigger and a small porch out front. Got inside to see a single chair with all the padding given up on life a long time ago. The tv which in my booking confirmation email was part of the package in the room as a “ 17-inch LCD TV with digital channels and pay movies”. Yea, nothing! HDMI lead hanging loose on the wall with nothing to plug it into. Don’t say plug into the tv as a cable has to start from somewhere to send signal to a tv. A small chest of drawers with all the drawers different sizes. I have stayed at a few hostels in my time and several on this trip and though hostels are basic, come in. If you send someone a confirmation saying the room your staying in and which facilities it has in it then supply that.

False promises

we returned for a weekend at the Hostel.  Lovely facilities, very clean and warm and friendly.  highly recommend to anyone or groups.  it is such an amazing setting and the owners are very welcoming and friendly

Lovely stay

As some people have mentioned in previous reviews, there isn't any contact with staff which is okay when things are going well but when you need someone then it can ruin a trip. 

On my third night, I was the only guest in the hotel along with someone who transpired to be completely drunk and awaiting a court date. There are no staff in the building and so when this guest started to try to get in my room at 10:30pm, I felt very scared and tried to message the hostel. No reply. It ended with me calling the police and having them visit to help and I left as I was not comfortable staying there nor did I feel safe. 

I have since contacted the owners and no replies at all. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone travelling alone as once you are there and need assistance then you are on your own. Not reassuring at all and very unpleasant.

Non-existent staff - can't recommend for solo travellers

This review is about total lack of customer service from this hostel. I'm a single mum with 2 children who had booked their  12 day trip to include a 2 night stay end of July 21 in this place. Along with 2 other accommodations I also pre booked train journey tourist attractions entry etc.  We were due to leave on a Monday arriving to this hostel 8 days later but on the Saturday my daughter tests positive for Covid 19 so we had to cancel the trip. Everyone I booked with even if there was a cancellation fee or non refundable tickets like our train multiple attractions etc. Processed a refund (thankfully) and didn't even want me to produce the positive result document. In the stressful situation I was in with 2 children just beside them selves with sadness having not been able to now go to Scotland just 2 days before our trip...guess what 1 loch Ness hostel didn't give a crap they were charging me and that was that they sent a message via booking.com to say oh booking.com won't let us refund you yet when I called booking.com they called the hostel to try and intervene. Load of rubbish DO yourselves a favour. There's plenty of fantastic places to stay up there and the above isn't one of them
 SHAME ON THEM. 
But thanks everyone who didn't bat an eye lid and did refund. Everyone is in the same boat . I'm spreading the word.

Cancelled trip

I stayed here for one night while I was cycling the great Glen way. Check in was quick, key in door and luggage had been put in a garden room for me. There is a secure bike storage at this place. There was tv, towels in the room, great outside seating area and good free WiFi. I had access to a communal kitchen in the main house which had all the facilities you could ask for as well as some home made cake left for guests. Good location directly opposite village green and on the way. Staff really helpful and willing to let me check out a little later if required.
Comfy bed and good hot shower. I would recommend this place.

Monster stay

Stayed here on route whilst cycling the great glen way. Very good value. Stayed in a wooden summer house/ pod converted into room with ensuite. Basic and simple but did the job nicely. Minimal contact with anyone else so good during covid era if you prefer a little contact as possible. Has its own launderette. Has bike storage. Also great location right in the middle of dumanchoit village with the cafe next door and deli and pub across the road. 

Great value

My daughter and I stayed in a garden room: a cabin at the back of the main building. It was warm and comfortable and we could park right outside the cabin. We only had one night there and didn't meet any staff, other than the housekeeper briefly as we were leaving. The key was in the door when we arrived. 
The location is lovely, in the heart of the village with some very nice small tea shops and eateries just across the road.

Disappointed. Won't be returning.
When I arrived, there was not one staff member at the hostel, but I called the number displayed on a board in order to confirm my arrival. The lady I spoke to said someone would be around later on, but I did not see anyone all evening.

Again in the morning there was nobody around so I sent a text message to both the original mobile number and the main contact mobile number, asking what to do about payment. The first number replied and confirmed nobody was around. It was agreed that I would leave cash in the room to settle up for my stay. Which I did.

However, despite leaving cash as agreed, my debit card was later also been charged for the same amount, so I paid twice. I have since repeatedly contacted the hostel but they are not responding, and I am still out of pocket.

The hostel itself and the location were fine. Room was clean and comfortable. But the staff have unfortunately been the opposite of helpful. Even when I was trying to book the room months previously, my queries went unanswered, so I don't think it was just that day that the staff weren't bothered.

I was told there would be somewhere secure to store my bike overnight, but as nobody was around, I was told to just leave it round the back. So I left my very expensive bike out in the rain all night and thankfully it wasn't stolen. I assume the crime rate in Drumnadrochit is negligible, so I wasn't fretting, but that's hardly the point.
