Lovely stay, great location - walks direct from doorstep.
Comfortable rooms, nice to have lounge too, with tea, coffee and cake. 
Great choice of breakfast, good packed lunch, tasty cakes/bakes.
Kate was a really fendly helpful host.

Lovely start to our visit to Islay

We spent just one night. New years eve. Welcome by the helpers, Yvonne and Stan was so warm. This is an amazing venue. Set in Balgowan, on a farm. The property was so clean and refreshing.
The cottage is amazing. Helen, the owner, certain has an eye for personal satisfaction. Her attention for detail, too sharp. The cleanliness to comfort. The bedding was such great quality, with comfort too. 
This cottage is a must 
Well done Burnside. We will return.

Burnside Lodge in Balgowan. What an amazing experience.

What delicious pies and cupcakes, if you are lucky enough to get these lovely pies on the day, you would be wanting to stay another week, hoping to be lucky the following week. Thank you Kate, looking forward to next year already, you never fail to amaze me.

Pie Wednesday

We stayed here for three nights and would recommend it. The room is comfortable with views of seals planking on the rocks opposite! The breakfast is great - everything is homemade, including homemade bread, biscuits and cakes. It's very cosy and quiet. 
Portnahaven is a quiet village right on the coast, with a lovely bay - again with seals resident. There's one small pub that gives you a warm welcome (although it doesn't serve food on a Wednesday or Thursday night).

Lovely place to stay - highly recommend

Staying at the Burnside Lodge was one of those once in a lifetime experiences.  Pure serenity, everything was quiet and peaceful.  Our excellent host was super accommodating and helpful with information on the island, whisky tours, nearby dining and pubs.  The inn itself is located in amazing countryside, we did some amazing seal watching from our room and had many long walks along the shores and on the island.   Kate's breakfast is delicious, and don't get me started on the heavenly cakes.  We will be back!

Seals and cake

Port Wemyss is as far to the southwest on Islay as you can get. About 45-50min drive from Port Askig or Port Ellen. A very nice little village.
 Burnside lodge is nice B&B with very friendly hosts. 2 rooms available. Free parking and free wifi.
The public bus has a stop very close by.
Breakfast was excellent. The hos is also baking cakes and pies for order.
Room - good space
Bathroom - Nice and clean.

Cosy place with very nice hosts

We were encouraged to visit islay from hearing about all the wildlife there was on the island. We already knew about all the distilleries!
We chose to stay at a B and B, Burnside Lodge, with Kate and her family. We were given the twin room on the ground floor with two windows overlooking the channel over to Orsay
The view was fantastic with seals on the rocks just metres away from us. There was plenty of birdlife and we think we even heard a corn rake calling nearby. The room was a good size with comfortable beds and a sofa full of cushions.
There is a guest sitting room with extra facilities for making drinks as you look at the information books and leaflets. We enjoyed a carafe of decaffinated coffee most evenings when we returned from dinner.
Port Wemyss is across the bay from Portnahaven and both are extremely pretty.
The pub in portnahaven is within easy walking distance and serves food but not every evening. The drive to Port Charlotte became a very interesting and familiar road as we ate there several times.
Breakfast at Burnside lodge was well presented Fresh fruit and cereals followed by a small choice of cooked dishes including the famous Full Scottish which was enjoyed by one of us each morning! There was also eggs served in various ways and when tried proved equally good. Toast and home baked muffins are also available with homemade jam and marmalade.
Kate made sure that we had all the information we needed to complete our plans each day and was able to offer advice and suggestions.
Although we only had a far off sighting of golden eagles and didn’t get to see any otters we did see plenty of birds and had a roe deer wandering past our bedroom windows one morning!
We also managed to visit a couple of distilleries 
We would like to return to Islay and would have no hesitation in staying at Burnside Lodge again despite it being right at the southern most point of the island.
