This place is an absolute gem! My partner and I arrived at our holiday cottage on a Saturday evening and decided to pop in,  have a drink, and suss out availability for a meal on another night.
We were greeted warmly and told that all the tables were full, but to take a seat at the bar and have a drink until one came free. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and made us feel really welcome. We then asked about the possibility of getting some food as we’d decided that we didn’t feel like cooking after our journey. ‘ Don’t worry, we’ll always get you fed’ came the reply ,and we were shortly seated at a table that had been cleared.
The menu is small, but perfectly formed! I much prefer a small menu of local produce cooked freshly, than an extensive one done poorly.
We both chose burgers,one venison and one wild boar. They were able to serve mine on a gluten free bun as I don’t eat wheat bread. Both were perfectly cooked, tasty, and came with a good portion of hot, fluffy, crispy chips and coleslaw. Just writing this is making me want another meal there!
The service was excellent. Friendly, efficient and with nothing being too much trouble. 
We ate there again later in the week, and again, everything was outstanding.
I really can’t recommend this place enough. Situated looking across Loch Scridain, it’s setting couldn’t be more stunning. Great food, a lovely friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful service. We can’t wait to visit again. Thanks to all, and very well done! 



Hospitality at its best

We stayed here for four nights in early September and were delighted with all of it.  The position on the loch is wonderful and being lucky with the weather we were able to sit outside and enjoy a drink.  The bedroom and bathroom (at the back)  were spacious, clean and bright.  The bar and restaurant were cosy with loch views and the food good. The breakfast arrangement was brilliant.  Cereals, bread/toast, fruit, yoghurt left out to serve yourself with and a large basket (one for each room) of food to take for your day out.  
Overall, a fantastic place run by a very friendly and efficient team.

We had a really bad experience getting to  Mull. Only just made the ferry due to a RTA at Gretna delaying us 3 hours, spent hours in the traffic queue on the motorway desperate for a wee, didn't dare stop in case we missed the ferry! Arrived with 10 minutes to spare for the 8pm ferry and found the ferry terminal toilets locked, argh! Walked very fast to Wetherspoons toilet! Couldn't get the food shopping we had planned in Oban, thought we'd eat on the ferry but it was a subsitute ferry with no cafe! What! Could it get worse, yes, the drinks machine was broken! Anyhow, instead of arriving and going to camp at  Fionnphort we stopped off at Pennyghael at the new campsite because it had a pub next door. Hastily putting up the tent I realised it was 10.25pm so I shouted to my partner to run in, in case they had last orders and we missed them! Honestly, couldn't rate this place enough. The chef was sitting at the bar having finished his shift. Said there was no panic for last orders and the manager offered to make us a toastie, which we gratefully accepted. I needed to charge my phone up to pay for the campsite online and they let me do this. I only had cash as my card had broken and the chef even offered me to use his card and give him the cash. I found my card details had been stored on my phone so didn't need to accept this kind offer. These people are just so helpful and lovely. We put the world to rights for a couple of hours, got some tips for our journey to Fidden farm and we were taught how to pronounce it properly! I can recommend the "level headed" beer, though not sure how level headed I was after 2 of them as I tried to dry my hands under the paper towel dispenser thinking it was an air drier and walked out of the pub leaving my phone plugged in on charge! Anyhow this is the kind of thing that memories are made of, and we totally thank the both of you for a lovely evening. If we could take up your kind offer of jobs we would! We will be back and recommend anyone to visit here.

We had a wondeful stay and thanks to the "Lady of the house" we had a great wild tour aswell.
The service is great and we enjoyd supper so much. 

When on Mull and  seeking a nice warm place to stay in the quiet beauty of Mull Pennyghael is the perfect place to stay at.

A wonderful stay with great food and great wild tour.

During your stay at this hotel, you order dinner at breakfast and breakfast for the following day at dinner. This is as a result of the hotel being short staffed. The food was amazing and the chef would come out and talk you through the menu. Good gluten free options too.

Rooms were comfortable. The place is very clean. There is daily housekeeping in the rooms and we asked if we could not have this and we were told no. It was a bit of a pain having to put the non slip mat down every evening in the shower but everywhere was so clean.

Lots of car parking and beautiful views.

Food is amazing

Pennyghael Hotel is right on the loch shore, with superb views from the dining room and several of the bedrooms. You can often see otters on the beach. This is a small and intimate hotel, where you receive very personal service. You need to order all meals a few hours in advance, including breakfast (this was fine by us) and as a result, the service in the dining room is extremely prompt.  We stayed 4 nights and everything we ate was very well prepared. The meals are on the hearty side. The fish and especially the mussels are great. You can get a packed lunch, which is a good idea as this is quite a remote location and it is good to be self-sufficient for your day out. The local bus stops right outside, although only 2 or 3 times a day; you can use it to go to Iona/Staffa. For most other destinations, you really need a car here.

Stunning location and excellent hosts

Am excellent two night stay at this family-run hotel. The staff were personable and professional, clearly taking pride in running a clean and efficient establishment. The location was excellent - we had a room with a view over the water and a window seat on one of our evening meals in, which contributed to the relaxing atmosphere. Any worries I had about booking somewhere so far south on Mill were dispelled, not least because it’s very handy for Fionnphort and the Iona ferry. Food was good - the mussels in particular are very local and were the best we’ve ever tasted. We hope to return to Mull and if we do we will look to stay here again.

Stayed 10 night self catering in clansman cottage on arrival cottage spotless welcomed by Joy . We had 3 Takeaway meals all delicious this is our 3 rd time staying at Pennyghael hotel Joy Tony & Paul alway friendly and happy to help in anyway definitely recommend a stay view from Hotel fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We rented one of the cottages everything spotless, comfortable, warm and an ideal base on the shore of Loch Scridain with stunning views no matter what time of day. Great part of the Island from which to explore and easy drive to Fionnphort to get ferries to Iona and Staffa. Thoroughly recommend and would definitely stay again.

A wonderful find

We spent two nights here in late July 2020, shortly after the hotel reopened to guests.  The standard of accommodation was excellent and very good value for money.  The restaurant menu was varied, including a good choice of dishes based on local ingredients.   There was plenty to suit every taste and appetite at breakfast too.  The hosts were very welcoming, suggesting ideas for sightseeing in the area, which ensured that we were able to make the most of our short stay.
