Staying in Portree for a few nights and first night here I came here for dinner. It is January so place is quite quiet, food was lovely and staff were pleasant. It would be 4 stars but Come With Me by Special D came on the radio which made it 5 stars straight away to be honest.

Lovely meal and service

Wow! Joan, in the dining room optimises Highland hospitality. What a welcoming lady and professional host.
The Royal is super clean, very friendly and my room was a great size with wonderful sea views. 
The receptionist was relaxed and really friendly. 
Portree is a busy place and the Royal Hotel was a pleasant surprise. Thank you.

Nice new comfortable room. Very friendly staff and a lovely Scottish breakfast. Close to all the amenities in the centre of Portree. Good value for money at the Christmas and New year holidays. 
Would definitely consider using the hotel again when going through Skye.

Good value for money in a good location

The Royal hotel is a very good hotel in the heart of Portree. We had a very good wheelchair accessible room. Royal has quite a good breakfast. Like all of Scotland, parking is difficult so plan ahead. One downside is the bar. Probably the worst bar on Portree., such a shame in a very good hotel

Great Hotel

Clean, comfortable, and quiet. Included breakfast was excellent--especially the porridge--and the coffee was fresh-brewed and plentiful. We came to Skye for the scenery and hiking, and the Royal offers basic peace and privacy at the end of the day, for a very reasonable price.

Great location, great breakfast

This seems to be one of the traditional hotels. It is old style but comfortable. There is no lift. The room was big enough with a desk and a seating. The bathroom had a bathtub. The hotel has its own parking place around the corner, which can fit 10 cars. In the discussion about parking, the lady from the reception gave me the times of free parking in front but did not mention the own parking area. So I ended up parking in a public car park until I found out later how it was. WiFi works well. Breakfast is friendly served with some self-serving and a cooked meal to order.

Traditional but comfortable

The hotel is well situated in the middle of town. One block from the square. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and easy to deal with. Good communication before and during our stay. Room was a good size, comfortable bed and a lovely view of the harbor. Very quiet. Be aware there is no lift so luggage must be carried up the stairs. Did not use the dining room in the hotel.

Really enjoyed the Isle of Skye. Beautiful scenery, wild oceans the days we were there. Portree is a  lovely town.

The location was great and breakfast was pretty good, which is the only reason it gets 4 stars.   The hotel is dated.  I did not think reception staff when we first got there was very nice.  We were 20 minutes early for check in and simply told to come back at check in time.  No welcome or suggestions to park or hold luggage.  The hotel only has 8 spaces.  Otherwise you are paying meter every two hours between hours of 8am and 6 pm.  Not enough room in reception area.  We simply sat on the floor with our luggage, until we were allowed to check in.  
Rooms appeared to be clean, but Our towels were dirty.  My husband noticed a big fresh blood stain on his towel while he was using it - Super gross!  Beds were a bit hard as well

Can’t beat location but check your linens

Right in the centre of Portree the Royal Hotel is a comfy place to stay   Rooms are not ultra modern but adequate to relax and explore Skye.   Breakfast were amazing with large portions and well cooked.   Dinner in the restaurant were also good portions.   All staff are friendly and nothing is too much bother.  Would certainly return again

Good cosy hotel

Stayed for 2 nights in a very warm and comfortable room and  bed . Very clean room and bathroom with a bit of a sea view ..Friendly staff . Didn’t have dinner but breakfast was fine one morning and not so on  second morning  but adequate tea and toast. Would return if we could book room no 7 again.
