Absolutely Awful, avoid at all costs. 
Having arrived around 6pm, we were met with an empty check in desk.
Once somebody eventually showed up, we were told to fill in a check in form, then given our room keys (room 7) 
We asked what time dinner was available until, to be bluntly told there was no restaurant for dinner. 
This surprised us as the breakfast menu cards clearly had printed on them 'have you booked your evening meal with us?' 
The room we were given was classed as the honeymoon suite. 
It was absolutely disgusting. 
It had clearly not had a good clean in years. 
The inside door handle was hanging off the door, only being held on with one screw. 
The shower was awful, a dripping tap would of had more pressure. 
The windows were filthy and were full of cobwebs, one of the windows was even broken. 
The whole room was filthy and extremely dated. 

I looked around the public areas of the hotel to find the whole building was filthy and in desperate need of investment and a deep clean. 
I was horrified to see one of the smoke detectors had a plastic cover over it, rendering the unit useless in the event of a fire. 

As we were in the middle of touring the coastal roads of the Highlands (North Coast 500), we were limited on time so couldn't find another place to stay at such short notice, otherwise we would have left immediately.

Absolutely disgusting AVOID! 

Website describes the property as elegant, well far from it. Cobwebs everywhere. Damp a major feature. Check in lady not interested in you, needs some customer experience training. 
Website advertises a restaurant and bar, defo misleading as no longer exist.

Total disappointment

We arrived at the MacKinnon to a frosty, unwelcome reception. The lady explained she was deaf which we accepted, that doesn't excuse rudeness though. A very curt "No" when we asked about a evening meal. Nothing to say where we could get a meal from the area.
The lodge we stayed in was down past a dirty house with broken down cars outside. The room itself was adequate if very dated. 
Saving grace was the breakfast and the surprisingly friendly waitress.

The hotel that gave up the will to live

Looked lovely in photos. The whole place looked tired and neglected. Our room was in the lodge at the rear behind two caravans. Ad stated these were garden rooms with door straight out to gardens. Not the case at all as there was one main door which was difficult to open. We both have mobility issues and were travelling with three dogs which the owner knew but we were put in a small room at the top of a very awkward staircase. The room was dreary and grubby. Curtains hanging off, toilet seat broken, toilet roll holder falling off wall. Not a tumbler to be seen. One biscuit each on tray. Carpet grubby. Bathroom didn’t look clean. As it was only for one night we could not bring ourselves to use the shower. Likewise with breakfast. The gardens hadn’t been maintained for a very long time. The whole place was very run down. All this for £110. To top this the owner was as unwelcoming as it was possible to be we felt like intruders. There is not price we would have paid for this room had we known what it was like beforehand. I wS led to understand it changed hands in July. I can only assume the previous owners were a lot more caring.
Had to score 1 but had it been possible we would give it 0

Worst place ever.

My husband and I arrived here, having booked without looking on Trip Advisor, I now wish we had!

Upon entering the grounds, the exterior looked slightly shabby but we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt.  The net curtains in the windows facing the courtyard were yellow and ripped, the paint flaking off the wooden, rotted window frames. 
The gardens were overgrown and shabby.  To the rear of the hotel there are what appears travelling caravans overlooking a walled garden area, which could have been a stunning area in its day.  

The receptionn area appeared equipped and adequate however on looking around had wall paper peeling off the walls and ceilings.  We were given room 4 key and climbed the staircase.  We were presented with black mould and bubbling wallpaper as we were walking up the stairs and sincerely hoped for a better bedroom... unfortunately not! 

The hotel is non smoking, yet as soon as we opened the door I am unsure what hit us first; the stale cigarette smoke, the curtain pole hanging off the wall, the turquoise green wall paint splattered on the 'white' coving or the mattress that was so old it had a curved dent in it.

Things get better in the bathroom.  Behind the toilet you cannot help but notice the mould nor the damp, cracked,broken skirting boards and shelving. There was also old, lumpy toothbrush stains on the wooden toothbrush rack.

The room smelled so much we slept with the window opened as wide as it could go.  This too was rotten and had flaking paint.

On a plus, there were clean towels and the bedding was clean.

We took a video of the room, unfortunately this cannot be uploaded.  Which is a great pity that you may actually have to visit this hotel to see this for yourself.

Wow! Where do I start?

We booked last minute at a pretty busy time (not much else available), so paid a lot of money. We were checked in by the rudest lady I have come across, surely the owner because there is no way she'd keep that job otherwise. We got a room in the 'new building' at the back of the main house. The room was freezing cold (tiny fan heater was provided) with even colder en-suite! My advice - stay anywhere else!

Last minute accommodation

Check in not until 4.00pm. Understaffed. Rude owner. There was no bar available or any seating area. No dinner menu. We were informed that the chef would decide menu on arrival!!! No dietary requirement offered. We were not informed prior to our visit that the bar would be closed and that there were no proper dinner facilities. Had we known we would have cancelled. Impression that this is an over expensive {rooms at £150 and £170} hotel advertised as "Country House Hotel". It rates as a poor B and B. Generally run down and unwelcoming. Do not go here.

Unhappy experience at beautiful Isle of Skye. Worst hotel that we have ever stayed in

There were no facilites even though the pictures on booking.com and the hotels own website show a bar and lounge area.
It was not clean with mould on the windows ,damp smells and a bathroom that took me back to the seventies plus we were both bitten in the bed.The expelair in the bathroom did not work and was covered in cobwebs, there were no fire evacuation instructions in the room. The immaculate grounds as shown online are a jungle. We  were booked for two nights but checked out after one. We did not go to breakfast as I was concerned about the state of the kitchen if the fabric of the building and rooms was anything to go by. They offered us a refund but I guessed that was just to get rid of us guess what no refund. We were not the only ones to check out early. Avoid this place like the plague. The people who run this hotel in particular the lady at reception make Basil Fawlty look like a customer service guru. £125 per night what a rip off but even at £5 per night I would not stay here. My dogs have stayed in better kennels.
This hotel is being misreprented on their own and everyone elses website beware and stay clear.

The Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in.

As you turn in its a 'wow' but this doesnt last long . The wall by the front door is black and the front door not much better . The owner receptionist is so depressing . No BBC on the TV , no internet in the room , and the headboard broken . I had to climb on a chair to turn on the TV . The dining room was nice .  Kyleakin is a beautiful town with better places to stay . Despite all this Mackinnon House seemed to have plenty of guests . Do people read reviews ?

Where to start...

On arrival - met by the lady proprietor who immediately tells me how she hates running the hotel - it was her husband's idea - he's dead and now she's left there working 12 hours a day, hates the locals.... not a good start and immediately making me wonder how much care & attention goes into this place...

Get to my room (room1) open the door - musty smell inside (a little dampness?), a radiator that barely works, and the smallest bath I have ever seen in my life - 3 feet from end to end - surely only a child could fit in here? But as it's a single room so children would never be there....

Also found the bin had rubbish in it from the previous occupant (which was a nice touch) and the milk cartons had been there so long that every one smelt off when I opened them.

Went to reception to ask a few questions and now amount of pressing the buzzer could awaken the owner from her slumber so after 10 mins of waiting for some help I gave up and went back to my room.

I would give this 1 star, however despite my initial fears of the bed not being "that" comfortable, I did actually sleep ok - and the breakfast (served by staff rather than the owner - thank god) was actually quite nice. That and the fact that it was one of the few places that are dog friendly in the area are the only things that help it scrape a 2nd star for me.

The rest of the day I felt a little stuffy in my sinuses - convinced the damp in the room had left me feeling a tad under the weather.

Seriously - message to the owner - if you despise running a hotel, then sell it - let someone who DOES enjoy being a hotelier run the place. It's a lovely building in a lovely location and deserves to be run by someone who will give the place a bit more care & attention.
